I am going to travel soon to Monterrey (Mexico), and I am planning to visit some friends in McAllen Texas. It seems there are no Apple store there... What is the nearest retail store to McAllen?

However, there are several Bestbuy there. If I buy an open box (r)MBP, can I test it in the store?
Do Best buy policy allow a full refund without questioning?
Do they offer a service for changing the keyboard layout from US to Western Spanish?
Also, If I have an issue with the laptop, can I take it to Apple store Spain to fix it?

Thanks.

Check out the refund policy on their site. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with you checking out the open-box product, although I wouldn't be worried if you didn't want to test it either. Refunds are good within a certain amount of time, as long as the laptop still had everything that came with it, and it's not damaged. As far as changing the keyboard layout, isn't that just in settings? I may be wrong. And with Apple's warranty I'd be surprised if they wouldn't honor warranty issues just because it was bought outside of the country. But I could be wrong. That should be in the warranty fine print.

The physical keyboard layout is different. I'd like to get it with Western Spanish so that I could resell it easily in Spain... Also typing vocals with accents is a bit annoying. For instance, to type é it is option+i followed by e. With Spanish layout, you just type ’ followed by e. I am going to check if Apple Spain offers a service for changing the layout...

Apple warranty is international. I bought 6 years ago my late 2007 17" MBP "directly" from Apple store La Cantera San Antonio, and I got the motherboard replaced in Spain for free due to nVidia 8600m GT issue. My worry is if I buy it from Bestbuy, would I be able to deal directly with Apple support or would I have to deal with Apple support through Bestbuy?

Regarding taxes, since I don't live in US, I hope I will be able to get them back through something called "Manifiesto". I am not sure how long it'll take to get the cash back...

Two weeks ago, I bought from Best Buy an open box 15in rMBP 2.7 i7/16gb RAM/512 SSD for $2099. Didn't know about manufacture dates or screen differences, but when I checked that out, I discovered its an early 2013 (April manufacture) model with a Samsung screen, and the battery cycle was 3.

I bought this directly from online when I was looking through the site. I guess I was lucky that this was actually in stock and not cancelled due to incorrect inventory. I haven't been able to find this anywhere else again and I live in a large city where there are BB's in the city and around in surrounding suburbs. I saw another recently for $2399 that also eventually sold from what I can tell.

This is my first Mac OS product. I've had an iPad for over a year and I love that thing. I wanted an iMac (still do), but my old PC died before I saved enough for it, so I was forced to get another Windows desktop. I currently don't need all of the power in this laptop, but I'm sure it will last me at least 3 years as configured. I see a number of creative projects being done on this over time.

As for Haswell, I'm okay and happy to have snagged a nice machine at a really good price. The only thing that would make me do a double take is if this update brings a different style, like black aluminum or something like that. Otherwise, in terms of power, I'm good.

I found four 13" rMBP early 2013 at one Best Buy store (Model: ME662LL/A, SKU: 6942007) Intel® Core™ i5 processor; 13.3" Retina display; 8GB memory; 256GB flash storage. The items are in excellent condition according to BB store. However, two are sold at $1,393.99, one at $1,349.99, and the last one at $1,439.99. Why this difference in prices?

It's hard to say the reason behind it. I've only seen them at the $1439.99 price when I have seen them. Certain stores may be trying to get rid of what they have. Maybe the most expensive one was a display that's Never left the store. Maybe the others are returns that came back because people changed their minds. I know when I asked about price differences amongst stores, they just said pricing is really whatever each store chooses, which is not any real answer to me.

Return policy on open box items is 15 days. Since you pick up open box items in the store, you have to bring it back to the store to do a return, but it doesn't have to be the same BB store. You may do better leaning on the Apple warranty and Apple Care since you will be returning overseas.

The thing is that the four items are sold by the same BB store... I read BB offers 30 or 60 days return policy to platinum customers?? Maybe the price is related to the time the item has spent outside the store?

After watching the "Waiting for Haswell rMBP" thread for a few weeks, I decided to pull the trigger on a refurbished early-2013 2.7/16/512 rMBP!

After researching everything, it doesn't seem like the Haswell/iGPU are going to provide much of a difference over the current generation. Plus, I saved $420!

Can't wait to get it this week!

Guys, help me decide, I am in desperate need! :)

I just purchased a brand new (early 2013 model) Macbook Pro w/ Retina 13'' (256gb ssd) for $1100 off craigslist. It was factory sealed w/ receipt and warranty expires August 2014.

Should I keep this because I got it at such a great deal? Or should I try to resell for ~$200 profit and put that towards the immanent Haswell refresh rMBP?

Thanks so much!!! (I am sooo tempted to open it!)

I guess it depends on your needs and budget

Will you have enough money to add to get a new laptop with no discount. I would not assume you will sell it at $200 profit. Assume you just get your money out of it and any extra is gravy.

What if the new laptops are not released in Sept? I got my 13in rMBP in March/April and I new Haswell was going to be out in June(everyone said so!!!)

I do not game so improved video was not key and battery life is fine(more is better but I plug it in all night and it lasts fine for my needs during the day at work)

I am a casual user so my needs are probably less than yours but I would have no issue carrying the power adapter if I really need to plug it in.

If you can wait sell this one and give a roll of the dice. You can always get another, like a refurb if there is delay in the release.

Either way, I love my mine and have no regrets not waiting 5-6mo for the newest and best

I just wish I knew what the haswell rMBP was offering... so I could realisitically compare. If I am really only going to see +5 hours battery life and a better iGPU (I don't game), then that is not worth the extra ~$500 that I would have to shell out...

Darn you Apple! Announce your refresh already!

What do you need from Haswell to make you wait? What new feature are you hoping for?

I got a refurb 13in rMBP i7 2.9ghz with a 512gb SSD for $1780 back in late March. Mine had 2 battery cycles on it and looked brand new.
I have not once regretted not waiting(there was no deal breaker for me to wait..as I said better video is nice and longer battery life would be great)

I never used my laptop long enough to run out of battery time. Mine runs smooth as silk with the onboard video.

I will emphasize I do not game. I use Win7 in parallels8, Word, web, music and video streaming. Not a power user.

I love this screen, it is so sharp and crisp. I hardly ever turn on my desktop

Well, the really appealing features are the extra battery life, and the improved Iris gpu (I heard that HD4000 can cause the current rMBP to stutter/delay? Is this true?)

I guess I need to decide for myself if those two features are worth the extra ~$500 I would have to shell out... probably not. I would not be gaming with this machine, only using it for school work (which is mostly light use). But I would need at least ~6-8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Those lag issues are fixed with Mavericks. It is a software issue. It sounds like you would be satisfied with the rMBP that you just bought. Extra battery life is nice, but you only need 6-8 hours anyway.

Thanks for the reply. But are you saying if I opened this rMBP 13'' right now I would experience lag / stutter? Even during light use? Or only heavy use?

That kind of scares me.

Also, what kind of battery life can I expect from the 13'' rMBP? With wifi on (light web browising)? And with wifi off (word processing)? And will Mavericks improve battery life?

Thanks for your time.

Have you not used one before? Any lag would be clear on a display model. Battery life is dependent on use, but you can get a general idea in the specs listed on Apple's website.

Don't let Internet fear mongering paralyze you on this.

I have experienced no lag at any time With my 13 inch retina display MacBook Pro from the video processor

The only issue I have ever had is in parallels With too many window apps open But that is due to Ram

Yes, 14 days from purchase date or 45 days if you are a silver member.

Their geek squad warranty is pretty good because it covers accidental damage where AppleCare doesn't. But Best Buys knowledge of Macs, especially phone support is weak. I'm trying I decide which to get.

You can take it to an apple store within the first year for lmited warranty service. I know you can get phone support as well apple store support for the First 60 days. Call AppleCare up to get the specifics. I've purchased two open box items from Best Buy.

Just purchased a new 13 inch MBP retina from Apple Store. 512 GB and i7. Did not really need i7 but would have had to order online and wait a week or more to get lower config. Don't want to get involved in the ongoing i5 vs i7 "debate" going on in one of the forums.

This is replacing a 2008 iMac which works fine but requires more desk than I wish to have in my downsized accommodations.

Spent a fair bit of time on three store visits playing with the Air but I came to the conclusion that I would not be satisfied with the screen over time. I use the laptop mostly at home so the Air's longer battery life and less weight did not overpower the better screen on the MBP. My wife has retina iPad and after using it, it is difficult to find the Air screen comfortable for text and photos.

I could have waited for the next MBP retina model but I needed it now and as I don't do a lot of heavy work I don't think I would benefit greatly from whatever improvements there will be.

Was quite impressed with Apple Store staff who were on the phone quite a while with HQ sorting out some issues with my Apple ID.

Planning to use this machine for 4 or 5 years and looking forward to it.

I've managed to find a buyer for my 2011 Macbook Air that I use as my work/portable machine, so I'm in the market for a new mac. Been debating going for another air or a Retina 13" Model.

The refurb store in the UK has the Oct 2012 Retina (i5, 128GB, 8GB) with £190 off, making it £1059. Seeing as the weight isn't too different to a 13" Macbook Air, and the battery life would be fine for any distance working I do (I'm either at home, on my way somewhere or in a datacenter with enough power outputs), I really feel like paying the slight premium over the 13" Macbook Air and getting a retina screen.

What do you guys think? Mistake? Wouldn't do refurb? Should get the Air?

/EDIT

I bought the rMBP. Should arrive Wednesday.
