Great deal on the 15"rMBP! How bad is the cosmetic damage though? Pictures? And did you get it checked or something to see if everything else inside is in order? A dropped laptop might bite you back in the butt months later. (But I'm also paranoid when it comes to my tech)

Everything seems to be in working order. The screen is Samsung and battery cycle is at 33. I couldn't be happier.

That's a great deal for a computer with what I'd call minor cosmetic damage. A little bit of sand paper to knock off the sharp edges, and you'll be fine.

For me, today is going to be tough; I pick up my 15" refurb with the knowledge that I'm going to return it in 2 weeks.

Nice deal. Get a skin to cover some the cosmetic damage if it is a problem.

Get a quote from Apple for a repair. Just for the sake of it. See if repairs puts cost over $1500

How much better is the 2.7 CMBP vs the 2.3. I just bought a 13 inch CMBP and while its an amazing machine i would like the quad core processor and the bigger screen. Im just debating if the difference between the two is miminal or should i go for the 2.7.

Hi everyone, I just bought a early 2013 rMBP 15" from Amazon Warehouse for $1911 + tax. 512gb SSD, 16gb RAM, 2.7GHz i7. Retail price is $2800.

It is sold by Amazon as used - "very good" and should still come with close to a year standard warranty.

Do you guys think this is a good deal?

I think that's a pretty good deal. Compared to the retail price that is really good.

well i bit the bullet and ordered a baseline 15 inch retina and couldn't be happier i need to save the money for an xbox one pre order lol, but i love this machine first time mac owner and i just came from an asus zenbook, but audio production im in heaven! still interested in what haswell will bring but im glad i saved some money wish i had 16 gb ram but 8 gb will push me creatively. still can't get over this machine! surprised at how well it runs diablo 3 also!

I´m waiting for my Macbook Pro Retina 15", baseline model upgraded to 16GB ram. I wish it would be here already, but all TNT says it´s somewhere between Shanghai and Norway! :( Scheduled delivery is 12th september.

I grabbed a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13" off the refurb store. I think I m going to put an SSD in it and move the stock HD to the CD drive. Also, I might go to 8 or 16gig on the memory. Can't wait to play with it.

Going to grab a 15'' rMBP base model today at the Apple Store after my class~! Today is an exciting day for this geeky chick! :) Hopefully the new iPhone shall come out this week too for me to pre-order/buy as well! :apple:

I can only recommend to keep the HDD where it is right now and put the SSD in the optical bay. I did it the other way around (like you said you want to do it) but switched them yesterday as you can hear the HDD spinning through the keyboard a lot more than if it is completely covered by the unibody case.
However, I have a HDD that runs at 7200 rpm so this effect is probably a little less noticable with the stock HDD (which works at 5400 rpm I think).

But it's definitely a good setup!

I got the 15" rMBP with LG 1st display.

There is definite lag. The screen also doesn't seem as bright as my Dell 1080p WLED on the Latitude. I'm making enemies right now, but I really was hoping to be blown away by the display.

Going back.

Disclaimer: This is my personal experience and personal opinion etc.

Just ordered my 13" rMBP, i5/8GB/256 from the Apple Education store, couldn't wait any longer for the Haswell, and fed up of the poor reliability of my Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. Anyone else here have the same spec and happy with the performance?

:apple: iPhone 5 32GB, iPad 3 16GB, iPod 5.5G 240GB, Shure SE425's, 13" rMBP :apple:

I was going to do this but chose the Air instead. I know the display's not the same, but the retina issues put me off completely. Moreover performance of the Mid 2012 13" Air is extremely good. (The i7.)

I also considered the Air (i7/8GB/256) but didn't like the screen quality of the display model in the Apple Store. In terms of real-world use, is there much difference in performance between the two? Will mostly be used to run Parallels, Netflix and lots of web browsing.

I did consider the inferior (to the retina) screen as a negative, but I would rather compromise on that than sluggishness of UI. Your mileage may vary with the sluggishness, I am put off of the whole retina line for now. Add to that the light weight and thin form factor, the Air's not a bad package at all.

The performance of the 2GHz 2012 Air 13 is better than the base 13 rMBP and base 13 MBA for some stuff. The only major thing it lacks in comparison to the MBA 2013 is battery life (7-8hours vs 12hours) and in comparison to the rMBP - the retina screen. Both of which are not deal breakers for me.

Check out all the stats here and draw your own conclusions. (Linked just one page, there are multiple)

For me, it works out much better to get the $1199 2GHz/8GB/256GB 13" and wait until the Haswell Retinas show up. I just can't bear the thought of dealing with the ghosting/lagginess and playing the replacement game until I find a good copy.

I must mention that I'm without ANY laptop right now so this isn't a tantrum.

Edit: Also the 2.5GHz rMBP is $1359 vs the $1199 for the Air.

I currently have both the 13" MBPr and the 2013 13" Haswell MBA.

Alot of people complain about the lag on the 13" MBPr - I don't see it. The lag (if any) is just as prevalent in my 2013 air and before that, my 2012 MBPr 15" with dGPU. Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough to it.

The Air is great, mostly because of it's fantastic battery life, but I prefer my MBPr for everyday use - largely because of the retina screen. The two displays don't even compare (and I have the samsung display in my MBA).

That said, I would say that now is probably the worst time to buy a new MBPr. The refresh is literally around the corner. Haswell brings decent upgrades to the CPU and iGPU - and the price of the previous gen MBPr will fall accordingly.

That's what most people said and I bought the rMBP 15." My personal experience, sadly, didn't fall in line with the majority opinion.

I absolutely want to love the rMBP 15" and I'm sure the latter releases will be the perfect notebooks. Apple needs to hurry up with the Haswell release.

I just received my BTO 15" 2012 and while I try hard not to hate it, it is easily the most miserable apple product I have ever had on my desk in 15 years of using apple computers and likely the first I will return. Very disappointing. :(

Originally ordered a 13" Air a week or so ago to replace my old 11" Air. It's an excellent computer but I wasn't impressed with the screen for the laptops size so it's been returned. I can put up with the screen on the 11" as the laptop is so small. The 13" form factor doesn't really have that advantage compared to the retina Pro's.

I was planning to wait for Haswell for the new 13" rMBP's, but after browsing the refurb store and seeing a 15" rMBP for such a good price (£200 cheaper than the current models even with education discount!) have gone with that instead.

Hopefully I've made the right choice
