couldn't wait and found a great deal on a 13" rmbp, 2.9, 512GB SSD + 2 yrs of applecare for $1450. I know the 15" gets me more horsepower for the buck, but i valued SSD capacity more since my uses don't involve gaming, photo/video editing

:D

I could not wait any longer for haswell and ordered the current model.

Ordered the 2013 model. 2.7/16/512 for 2210$ + Shipping (i had a huge gift card).

I can not wait to arrive and enjoy it :)

How are you able to find out what you have? You have the 13 rMBP?

I had the 15. For the SSD, open up 'About this mac' > More Info > System Report. Go to 'Storage', and if it says 'APPLE SSD SM256E Media' it is a Samsung SSD.

There is a command you type in the terminal for the screen information but I think I read that 13" rMBP has that disabled or something.

Got my rMBP yesterday, and it´s great! It have the LG screen, but no signs of problems at all, I have done a burn-in test for 20 minutes without any signs of it. It also got the Samsung SSD.

I got the 15" rMBP with LG 1st display.

There is definite lag. The screen also doesn't seem as bright as my Dell 1080p WLED on the Latitude. I'm making enemies right now, but I really was hoping to be blown away by the display.

Going back.

Disclaimer: This is my personal experience and personal opinion etc.

I too ordered a refurbished 15" Retina MacBook Pro in the beginning of August and I too was put off by the scroll lag issue in Safari. The computer ran great and I had no other issues but that. I was baffled because I was so eager to get the computer and it seemed to run fine when I used it in Apple stores. The thing is its a software issue NOT the computer. I partioned my SSD, downloaded OSX Mavericks on it and I couldn't be happier. The retina is a dream now, and I am glad I stuck with it. The main fault in Mountain Lion is that the HD4000 is only utilizing 512MB of Vram and that is just not enough for all those pixels. In OSX Mavericks, 1024MB of Vram is being utilized along with other fixes for the HD4000, which eliminates all that UI/scroll lag. Its nothing to do with the LG screen. Also keep in mind that Apple replaces the Screen, Shell and battery and if need be the SSD in the refurbished models before they ship them. So its like getting a brand new computer for $600 off (15" model), I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My 15" Retina running Mavericks is a dream, super fast, fluid and new editions like tags coupled with all the UI fixes and new safari features is awesome. I'm sure Haswell will be great but $1599 is just too good to pass up for this machine and suits all my needs and then some. Did I say I am happy with my purchase:D

I would advise anyone looking in to a new/refurbed 15" rMBP not to worry, the Computer is fine. Once Mavericks is released you will not experience any UI/scroll lag. Yes it shouldn't have taken this long, but if you're buying now you're in luck because Mavericks is just under, or about a month away from release. I have a video on YT showing just how smooth Mavericks is on my 15" retina, even scaled to 1920x1200, no lag at all even with the verge, facebook and other intensive sites. Check my video if you want to see how smooth the UI/safari is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PcIJ7yt8aw

Thanks for posting this! My refurb 15" arrived this morning and after playing with it for an hour or so, I immediately noticed the scroll lag. I'm happy to wait a month or so for the fix though as everything else is excellent.

I'm blown away by the display and just how light and portable this computer is. I used to own one of the 15" cMBP's and there's just no comparison, it feels more like an Air than a Pro. I was actually worried 15" might be too large and was considering the 13" instead for University but this is absolutely portable enough.

Is the other 512MB going to be shared from the GDDR5 or RAM? How would that work?

I'm glad to know you're happy, I was too - almost, and I tried to force myself to live with it, but I just couldn't. $1600 + taxes is a lot of money any way you slice it.

It is a stellar machine no doubt and I'll be picking one up when Haswell machines are out and reviews are out. Meanwhile happy to give my eyes a workout with the 'terrible' Air display.

Edit: While we're on it, has it been mentioned anywhere whether the screen lag is a function of the HD4000 not refreshing the buffer or something like that or is that just a manufacturing defect? I would think the latter since the IR seems to persist for longer times (in minutes etc).

Just received my refurb 15" rMBP, absolutely loving it. Samsung screen and it's beautiful, and with the money saved I can buy a nice case etc. Very Happy! :D

New 15" cMBP owner here!

Hey everyone, new pc-to-mac convert here. I finally purchased a MBP after years of waiting and saving, and I'm very happy to have converted over from PC. I'm a Systems Administrator by day, musician/producer/videographer by night, and up until about two weeks ago, my entire experience has been on PC or Android. I still like my Android devices (Apple hasn't convinced me to switch to the iPhone yet..), but I love my MBP!

This computer is pretty much going to be my everyday machine, and for home I bought the "magical" keyboard, touchpad, and a 23" AOC IPS LED monitor (a great monitor if you want IPS LED tech without Apple's $1k price). I wanted the higher performance for the audio/visual work that I do. I'm running Studio One 2 and Logic X Pro, as well as a whole suite of virtual instruments, dsp's, and mastering software. I want to try Final Cut for my video editing soon, I'm sure it is as good as everyone says it is.

I purchased the 2.7ghz i7, 8gb RAM version with the antiglare hi-res screen from MacMall for $1999. I felt like this was a decent deal, and I really wanted to have the faster processor and antiglare screen, which was a pretty difficult combo to find in my price range. Anyways, I swapped out both the stock hdd and optical drive for an Intel 520 120gb SSD and Seagate 750gb hybrid drive. The stock hdd is now my ICE drive in the event something happens to the SSD. I will be upgrading to 16gb of RAM next week and my buddy has been trying to convince me to switch the Intel 520 for the Samsung 840pro.....we'll see.

I don't have any questions or anything, I've read a lot of material already on the forum and on the web regarding getting setup properly and different apps to install (Alfred needs to win a Nobel Peace Prize or something, I LOVE that app!). I am definitely open to advice from you more experienced owners (which is everyone here :))I just wanted to introduce myself, hopefully I'll be able to contribute positively to this forum. See y'all around!

Stix:cool:

I just got back from the Apple store and I finally joined the rMBP club with the 13 inch base model. Luckily (?) I got a 128 GB Sandisk SSD and not the infamous Toshiba one. Is it better or worse? Also I tried copying and pasting this (ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6) into Terminal, but I can't seem to find the screen's manufacturer.

just ordered a 15" rMBP for 1450 on ebay, one cm little dent on bottom which can be replaced but samsung screen just replaced and 2 years left of applecare on it, cant wait to receive it!

No problem, usually when one person says something negative it spreads like wildfire especially on forums. The 15" rMBP is more than fine as its issues are just software related, not hardware. The HD4000/GT650M are more than capable for the rMBP. Mountain Lion just wasn't optimised hardly at all for the rMBP. Mavericks however is a different story, it fully takes advantage of the HD4000/GT650M combo. Glad you are enjoying your new purchase, and yes the screen is AMAZING:p. I don't think I could go back to anything less now, its that damn good:D

Congrats on the purchase!!!! That command only works for the 15" model though. It has been disabled for the 13" rMBP. There is another way to check the screen I believe. Just do a quick search online you should find it no problem.

Any bad experiences with refurbished macs?
I have just bought this one : http://store.apple.com/es/product/F...n-core i7-de-intel-de-cuatro-núcleos-a-23 ghz

30% off I'm happy! :d
That's the same model I bought recently as well, it's excellent. The refurbished machine just comes in different packaging.

Apple puts a disclaimer on the refurbished store that the computers may come with minor marks and blemishes but mine was immaculate. This seems to be the case with most refurbs.

In case anyone's curious this is how my refurb came:

it looks pretty nice ;)

I've just remembered that when I've bought it I haven't chosen the keyboard language... is it a problem?????

My old 13 inch 2010 macbook pro was refurbished and its packaging was exactly the same....

Excellent, the only thing you don't get is the original box, they issue new S/N on refurbished machines
