Hell freezes over

After 24 years of Windows, this confirmed PC user has finally ordered his first Mac. Ordered two days ago: 2.8/16GB/1 TB + Nvidia. Took advantage of the deal with Adorama and Apple Insider for the three free years of AppleCare and a pretty decent price on the laptop, itself.

Not sure how long I'll be waiting, but while I do, I can torture myself with sorting through all the various case options. I hope it arrives pretty soon, because my new Adobe CS6 for Mac just arrived today. Chomping at the proverbial bit.

I'd be interested to hear more about your experience making the transition. I've been a PC user for 30 yrs and am now seriously considering moving to a rMBP. Hope you'll follow up with a posting relating your impressions/experience after using it awhile.

I just bought my first Mac ever (last week's release of the high-end 15" rMBP), and after 15 years of Windows experience; the Mac platform is amazing. It is VERY user friendly compared to Windows, pretty much plug and play, bug-free; and extremely SMOOTH. Like, the VPN client I use took about 2 minutes to connect to the internet on my Windows machine; here, it takes less than 10 seconds. There is NO registry. Almost all of the programs that I was using on the Windows platform are here (of course, depending on your specialization you might end up boot-camping Windows).
I had long debated myself to switch platforms, and I am VERY GLAD that I did.
I no longer use a mouse, trackpad is VERY accurate and there are extremely helpful gestures.
It could take a few days to find your way around, but once you do, I can promise that you won't ever look back.

I really have to agree here. I ordered a refurbed 2.4/8bg/256 rmbp on weds and received it friday - i have been using it all weekend, and though i have an iPad, and an iPhone, i had never had a mac computer before - always been a windows guy....this thing is hands down the nicest computer i have ever owned, and it is so simple and easy to use. I have been playing around and trying to figure everything out still, but so far no real issues (other than outlook sucking - may just use mail instead).

As far as a trackpad - i can't believe i am saying this - the trackpad here is freakin fantastic - never been a fan of a trackpad on a laptop...always used mice...i am still thinking of getting a magic mouse, because when programming, it is usually easier to get into the code and change things with a pointer, but for the time being, i am having no problems at all using the trackpad, and the gestures are just awesome. No need for alt+tab when switching between windows, forward/back in browsers, zoom, etc - it just works so well....and if you want to learn more gestures, it actually shows you in the trackpad settings exactly how to do each gesture!

So, i am incredibly happy with my purchase - came with 10 cycles on the battery, and not a scratch on the computer - looks brand new, and never would know its refurbished - will decide on applecare later - i could see myself wanting to upgrade a year or two from now, in which case applecare isn't really worth it (extra year given from my AMEX card).

Placed my order for a Mid 2014 13" rMBP 3.0GHz i7/16GB/256GB SSD to replace my Mid 2012 i7 11" Air! UPS says delivery for Thursday and I'm pumped!

I ordered the exactly same computer except with a 512GB SSD on July 29th, it's been sitting in Shangahi for the last three days and is supposed to arrive on the 11th to 13th... You're lucky....

Not looking for any flack here. I know I could have ordered a Retina model for less and this is 2 year old tech. This is what I wanted and money was not an issue.

Wow, what the heck?? Mine is already in the states... Maybe stuck in customs or something?

Not giving flack but curious what you prefer on the older generation MBP over the retina? CDROM/hard disk size? Exciting for sure! Congrats!

Sure, no problem. Yup, both of those things primarily. Retina display really isn't a selling point for me also. I have an iPad Air and it is nice but hell, my PowerBook G4's screen still looks good enough for my needs. Not to say I'd never get a retina, though. I'll play it out and see what happens.

As a sideline, I could kick myself for not ordering a cMBP 15" before they went away. Wasn't going to let it happen this time haha.

Interesting.
If I were you I'd also order the rMBP 13' and use both at the same time.
At the end of your testing period, one machine would emerge victorious (as you return the other one to the Apple store under their 14 day return period)

I just ordered mine from Adorama to take advantage of the free AppleCare.
It's kinda okay that it'll take a while to get it, since I still have to get a skin to protect my new computer from scratches.
15", 2.8 GHz with 750M and 1TB SSD

Edit: adorama was being dumb with their back order, so I'm getting it from macmall instead. It's arriving Saturday per FedEx.

Just sold my late 2013 13inch mid-range model to get a new 15" baseline model. I hope I made the right choice this time.

Can I ask why you swapped the 13" for the 15" baseline? I'm considering changing my 13" mid-range late 2013 for a 15" midrange, and I'm curious why you went that way. :)

Thanks for all the advice on the forums.

I just got the new 15-inch baseline model (2.2GHz/16GB/256GB). Very happy with the performance, although it is very large. I probably won't be bringing it with me to school as often, but at least it can keep up with my music production now. Screen is incredible, no problems that I can see.

ebay deal (I Think)

Just purchased a used macbook pro of ebay and this was the description:

Apple MacBook Pro 15" retina display

Very good condition with original box and all accessories

Screen has been replaced in the last few months due to dead pixels

Repair Was carried out by apple under warranty

Early 2013

2.8GHZ i7 Quad Core

512 SSD

16GB RAM

1GB Nvidia GTX 640 M

I paid £1050 with delivery which is $1768.04 according to google aha

Can anybody tell me I got a good deal, Thanks

Just bought mine at the Apple Store.:D

The high end 15" retina MBP :)

It's gorgeous but the iMac to rMBP transition it's not so easy as i thought :p

picked up a late-13 15.4" rMBP 8/256 open box from BB with 2 charge cycles for $1280 after tax. full warranty is active after selling my mid-2010 13.3" macbook pro for $550.

so now we have a late-13 13.3" rmbp 8/256 and a late-13 15.4" rmbp 8/256. we shall be ok for few years

Just received my mid-2014, base 128GB SSD 8GB Ram Pro w/ Retina Display today! It's amazing and the screen, well I'm glad I went with the pro over the air for that alone. The whole machine just feels like a good sturdy mac, yet it's still not big or heavy as I was worried about either.

I think I got a great deal with it too. Paid £850, with £150 in student discount (which was more than I was expecting, but got because my college is affiliated with a local university), a free bag (out of the free £60 gift card promotion) and 3 years warranty (which I also got because of the college/university link.) Great price considering the price drops and spec boosts of the other week too!

So really happy and if anyone is debating the choice between pro and air, as I have for literally months, then I would definitely say go with the pro. After hours of researching, it turned out only a £120 difference for me and I don't think this pro is going to be any less portable than the air would have been either. However, for that little extra you pay you get a whole lot more computer include better specs, double the ram, an awesome screen and a much better future proofed mac than the Air :)

I've got my poor iMac waiting for me to go back to it upstairs too. In what ways are you finding it hard to move between the two? :D

Well, the trackpad is one the first thing you have to get used to.
I have the rMBP and the iMac on the same desktop with the Magic Mouse standing at my right and my hand goes unawares on it.
Then, my body position is different if i'm using the rMBP instead of the iMac; i think i've to get used to it too. :)

Yeah it's took me a while tonight to get used to the trackpad too but I definitely like the multitouch scrolling etc. I haven't set up my pro next to my iMacs magic mouse yet though! Let the confusion begin :D

Ordered my MPB

Two days ago I ordered the maxed out 13" Retina MacBook Pro.

3.0 GHz i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and the 1TB SSD.

It's just prepping to ship, and should be here on Monday. I'm upgrading from a mid-2011 MacBook Air, so I'm very much looking forward to a) retina and b) 1TB of internal storage.
