Just got back from the Apple store. They had a shipment this afternoon, so I'm sitting here installing Yosemite on my new 2.5/16/512 15". :)

Picked up my 13/8GB/250GB earlier today. Not a massive spec bump at all however as my other rMBP was only ten days old and I would be passing the Apple store today it was worth the swap. I bought a nice aluminium desk stand with the saving.

So I got a 15" inch base MacBook Pro delivered 20 days ago from the online Apple store, upgraded RAM to 16gb and CPU to 2.3ghz.

Today, the base model is the same specs as the one I got, and they knocked £100 off the price.

Mine works fine, but come on....the new model is £360 cheaper for the same machine? And I'm 6 days out of the 'return policy'. I don't care about the 200mhz speed boost, that's nothing I know, but £360 is quite a lot - almost 20% cheaper than what I payed, I find that pretty ridiculous given the timeframe. I'd be fine if it was a month or two, I knew an upgrade was coming...but 6 days out of the window and £360 cheaper :/

Is there anything I can do? Is it even worth trying?

I'd just swallow it. That's a never ending problem with technology. Sometimes you buy something that one day later is "outdated".

In other news. I just got back my 2011. Seems to work great. :D

Although I think the Apple Depot put a small scratch on the lid but it could be I just don't remember. It's absolutely miniscule so who knows. Doesn't bug me that much. Just a bit. :p

Ring Aftersales - they can be helpful in these circumstances...

I think I might have to, I'd hardly call 200mhz outdated though :p. It's the money that's the real annoyance.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Can't lose anything asking I guess, be interested to see what they say, if the 'upgrade' was more expensive / more than 7 days off then I'd be fine. But losing almost £400 on an un-predictable 'spec bump price drop' is just plain annoying :/

They will probably either offer you a straight swap to the equivalent model or a refund. If you get the refund then you can order a new one at the lower price. The only downside of this is that you have to wait for the returned model to get to Apple before they issue the refund - unless you can cover the outlay for a week or two, in which case you do as I did, and order a new one from Sales as soon as you get the email confirming they will take back the old one. I went from 2.3 model to 2.8 - and still cheaper.

Since it's only 6 days out of the return period, I'm pretty sure the store and/or AppleCare [ phone ] will work with ya... I've read of people being up to 30 days out and still got an exchange for the newer model!

Wow that's good to hear, thanks guys. Will give it ago tomorrow.

I ordered a late 2014 13" Retina MB Pro 8gb 256gb

I'm moving from a 2014 13" 4GB Air
The RAM was just not enough for me (it worked, but it quickly ran out and the machine sluggers up), but the main factor is because of the screen. For a TN panel, the air is nice and all, but there is a terrible flickering and pixel walk every time text and lines move which drives me insane. The CPU is probably not powerful enough as I noticed some slowdowns in applications.

The pro shouldn't have these issues

Caved in and got the previous 13 rMBP with the 2.4ghz 8GB/256ssd (ME865LL/A).

Was checking my Best Buy cart and they dropped the price $100 to accommodate the new ones+ used the $100 edu coupon.. $1308 after taxes.

Apples site was $1523 -$100 gift card via email (looking at the new ones) after taxes included.:D

I may pick up apple care later down the line.

I just exchanged my late 2013 rMBP 15'' 2.3ghz/16GB/512GB for the mid 2014 15'' 2.5ghz/16gb/512gb. I originally bought my rMBP on July 1st, so i was outside of the 14 day return policy, but my Apple store let me exchange it anyway.

I grabbed a base rMBP with the 8gb ram. I didn't have a computer and since I was on vacation, I didn't need one right away. First time that i have waited until a release to purchase. The 13" rMBP is finally at a decent price point for the offering (with EDU discount).

Was the exchange worth the effort? How do you like the new machine?

just ordered 13" base. My first mac!

Says "Delivers: Jul 31 by Standard Shipping" not sure if it will really arrive tomorrow. But would be nice if it does.

The new rMBP is pretty much the same exact machine as my older one, except it's processor is faster by 200 MHz, so I don't really notice too much of a difference. Also, the exchange was pretty easy, since I just restored from my time machine backup, and i didn't really install much on my bootcamp partition.

Just bought the new entry 15" rmbp and i love it!
Im amazed by the battery life and that its so quiet.
Takes me back to the old days when i bought my G4 iBook.

Just got my 13inch delivered this morning

2.6 8gb ram 256. Ssdd
shows mid 2014 model

Pulled the trigger on a refurbed late 2013 2.4/8gb/256gb - couldn't seem to pull the trigger on new one with such a discount on the price at $1189 vs $1499 for only a 200 MHz increase in speed. excited to get it and try it out, and hey, worst case, I go to a store and exchange for the new one :)

Just picked up the 2013 13" with 512ssd for $1299 at best buy. I'll save the 500 and skip the .2mghz boost anyday.

Well, I ordered the old 2013 rMBP 15 base model at a hefty discount. I like to think of it as an overweight highend MBA with a 15" Retina display plus 2.0 ghz Quad Core CPU. ;)

Last Wednesday I ordered the top tier MBP 13 inch, upgraded to 16GB of RAM and upgraded the processor to the 2.8 i7. YESTERDAY I get the e-mail that my order is ready to be picked up at the store, I was so excited (even though I won a beastly imac, new ipad, iphone 5) that it was finally in and I could load up my adobe software on it and set it up as I see fit.

My buddy send me a text and says the new macbook pro line has been announced and is available to purchase. I seriously thought about just taking my ready for pickup machine but ended up calling customer service and they did the return over the phone and ordered me the new fully upgraded 13 inch MBP with the 3.0 processor. I need that extra juice because I deal with video production/premiere/after effects all the time.

Now I have to another week to get my customer machine built and shipped.

Can't wait!
