I was going to wait for Broadwell, but with talks of delays, I just went ahead an bit the bullet. Walked out of Best Buy a few hours ago with the 13" 2.4/8/256 rMBP for $1,299! Well, $1,392.94 with tax, but still. I got them to price match Apples student discount of $100, then take the place of the $100 gift card and apply it directly to the MacBook

So far so good, I just need to find a fast external HDD to store my iTunes, Aperture, and software libraries. My 2010 15" had dual drives so I could fit everything on the machine (120GB SSD + 750GB HDD). So that's the first big compromise. Otherwise, it's faster, but not by as much as I had thought with the old MBP having an SSD in it and the same amount of RAM. But the screen is so awesome! Also much lighter, thinner, quieter, cooler. :D

Now I just have to sell the 2010, and my 2008 to make up for some of the cost :(

Has anyone brought a new rMBP 13" with RAM upgrade, in the last week?

I placed an order 6th, ETA was 14-16th, then changed to 15th, now changed again to 17-21st :(

Surely doesn't take extra week to solder a different piece of RAM??

Finally took the plunge and bought my first Mac, specifically the Macbook Pro Retina 13". Took the standard 2.4GHz i5, 256GB SSD but went for the 16GB RAM.

My order was placed Tuesday and is "Preparing for Dispatch" today. Delivery estimate is still the same (15th - 17th).

Thought I got a good deal anyway. £1200 (with university discount) and got a £60 gift card along with 3 year warranty and 1 year of phone support. Pretty happy. Kinda gutted I didn't go for the 2.6GHz i5 but I don't think it would really make a difference. Overall though, excited as this si my first Macbook :)

Just brought the machine in my sig, I did order the one with dGPU and it lasted 5 hours and the Nvidia chip died so I have decided to never purchase a mac with dGPU and opted for the Iris Pro only. I hope this machine lasts me a good few years to come!!

New Late 2013 Base 15" rMBP(8/256), $1905 shipped, 1 day shipping from B&H with a free copy of parallels.

For mobile use, my current cMBP is just too heavy. I like the larger screen size, and I only use about 80-90GB on my current 480GB SSD. My iMac runs everything I want on 7GB of RAM, so 8GB should be more than enough for CAD in college. The difference in weight and thinness are more than worth the hit from 16GB and my 480GB SSD.

Just got my new rMBP 13" a couple of days ago. Went with the 2.6/16/512 for 1699 and when it came it was shipped with the 2.8 i7, so I was pleased. Working great so far, will probably stick with refurbs from now on!

With the upgraded processor, ended up saving 350 bucks, for basically brand new rMBP.

Well, it finally happened.

I decided not to wait until whatever unknown period of time in the future for a refresh Haswell generation with whatever modest improvements considering lord only knows when the hell that'll happen...

That said...

I locked down the 15in rMBP w/ 2.3/512/16 with the 750m GPU as well from BestBuy. Priced at $2,469. Minus the $100 student discount and then the 10% movers coupon, I think I got a pretty good deal. Granted, I meant to have the sales guy run the 10% off coupon first which would have saved me a little bit more, but he snagged the college coupon from the counter before I could hand him the 10% movers coupon.

I also picked up a 1tb Seagate slim portable HDD. All said, the total for the two was well below $2,300 before taxes.

Still feeling may way out and getting this thing set up, but I am enjoying it so far. Now its time for me to dive into the free apps thread.

take care!

Just got my first new MacBook Pro, I went with a 2012 Model here is the video I made about it, also the first video I have ever made with final cut pro

Joined the flood. Was disappointed that intel are delayed again and although in a couple of months I'm sure there will be a minor upgrade with a speed bump, i took the plunge. I have an Early 2011 13inch macbook pro. Although its still pretty good (I installed 8gb Ram and 250gb ssd) I wanted a little bit more and a refresh.

So I bought the late 2013 Retina Macbook pro 2.6ghz i5, 16gb Ram and 256ssd. Also just bought a nifty mini drive and 128gb sd card to put my iTunes and iPhoto.

First i wanted to wait until the next refresh but since the date is unclear and Broadwell is delayed i went to the store yesterday and bought a MBPr 13,3/8/256. Very happy with it :)
Also my first MacBook

Sick of waiting for broadwell so I picked up a 15" retina macbook pro for $2087 plus tax from Best Buy, the 2.3 i7 16gb 512gb model. It was onsale for $2469 minus the student coupon of $150 and the 10% movers coupon. Couldn't pass up the discounts they were giving on the macs and not knowing when broadwell may ship just added to my decision not to wait. Overall I'm really happy with my decision as this mac is a beast.

I've ordered the exact same! But not even dispatched yet, supposed to be dispatched 15th, delivery by the end of the week... I HOPE!
I wonder if which part of UK you are from makes a difference on dispatch/delivery times.

My refurb macbook pro 13" arrived today. Loving it already. I got the i5 2.6ghz with 16gb RAM and 256gb ssd. Opened up 'about this mac' and got a nice surprise.

I just ordered the rMBP 15 base model. It's got everything I need in a portable that will hopefully last 5 years or more. I was considering flagship rMBP but decided to stick to the basics. Light gaming, streaming music and video, web surfing and photoshop is all I really need it for. The only regret I might have is when they release a MBA with similar features in another year or two. Honestly, the 15" Retina display is the only reason I didn't go with the MBA.

Very cool Middi! :) I had the same experience when I decided to buy a refurb iMac it stated 4 gb of ram but shipped with 8! It was the only change I would have made to the configuration if I had been allowed to do so. I was very happy when I discovered that. :D

I want to upgrade my MBP this year and I may look in to a refurb once again.

It gets built to order from china.

Well, after months and months of research and waiting (and hoping) for a 2014 update I decided to pull the trigger. 15" Late 2013 with 2.3 GHZ i7/16 GB RAM/512 GB SSD/NVIDIA 750M graphics card. After hearing about the Broadwell delay I decided to go for it! Can't wait for it to arrive. This is a HUGE upgrade from my current unibody 2008 Macbook and I plan to keep this thing for a good 4-6 years. I'm very excited to get back into music production again. Oh yeah, got a nice Thule sleeve for it also :D

Congrats on your new purchase. I also purchased the same model 2 weeks back. I had to use MacBook for my work related purpose it didn't make any sense for me to wait for some upgraded GPU+CPU when that extra optimization I would not have noticed atleast in my daily work routine.

This new rMBP has enough power to get me going for next 3-4 years and as you mentioned I am also back in business and to utilize all the efficiency that rMBP has to offer in my work.

FYI.. my work includes running VMs with databases on it.

When I went at apple store I saw many people buying rMBP in all variants(11',13' 15' etc) and I felt that people do tend to buy what they need at that moment rather than waiting endlessly.

Hey guys,so I was about to order a 15 inch mbp and was wondering are there any new MacBooks coming out in. 2014? Or should I just place the order

If you can afford to wait, then you should wait. The reason why I bought one without waiting is because of the back to school promotion Apple runs.

The delays seem to be getting longer. Looks like sometime first 1/2 of 2015. Waiting is not worth it.

I an in the same boat. Need a new rMBP for university in September, and can't afford to be without one. I will wait for 1 more month, there is a possibility they release update on 22 July.
