Hey guys, I'm pretty new to this forum. I just ordered my MacBook Pro 15 a couple days ago and it's still processing! I can't wait for it to arrive.

I got the entry level 15-inch model (without nvidia gpu) because I like the size, and had the storage capacity upgraded to 512GB. I didn't think that I needed the discrete graphics card because I already have a custom gaming computer and the specs on it are just overkill…

Was it a smart buy? Personally I just didn't see the value in an additional $300 for that GPU. I don't do video editing (although I'd like to start) and all gaming is done with my gaming pc. A buddy of mine told me for what I need now, the Iris Pro is more than enough.

Either way, I can't wait for it to arrive!

Mine just arrived. 15" Base 512GB mid 2014. Comes with perfect screen no yellow tint, no image retention.

Two days ago I ordered the maxed out 13" Retina MacBook Pro.

3.0 GHz i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and the 1TB SSD.

It's just prepping to ship, and should be here on Monday. I'm upgrading from a mid-2011 MacBook Air, so I'm very much looking forward to a) retina and b) 1TB of internal storage.

Do you mind me asking how much that baby cost you?

No problem! I'm in Canada and I bought it through an employee discount program, so here's how it broke down:

Computer: $2,609.00
Shipping $18.00
Tax: $341.51

Total: $2968.51

Nice! It's one hell of a MacBook. 3.0GHz i7 processor, 16GB RAM, 1TB disk space....seems pretty darn good to me. Enjoy :)

Just received my mid-2014, base 128GB SSD 8GB Ram Pro w/ Retina Display today! It's amazing and the screen, well I'm glad I went with the pro over the air for that alone. The whole machine just feels like a good sturdy mac, yet it's still not big or heavy as I was worried about either.

I think I got a great deal with it too. Paid £850, with £150 in student discount (which was more than I was expecting, but got because my college is affiliated with a local university), a free bag (out of the free £60 gift card promotion) and 3 years warranty (which I also got because of the college/university link.) Great price considering the price drops and spec boosts of the other week too!

So really happy and if anyone is debating the choice between pro and air, as I have for literally months, then I would definitely say go with the pro. After hours of researching, it turned out only a £120 difference for me and I don't think this pro is going to be any less portable than the air would have been either. However, for that little extra you pay you get a whole lot more computer include better specs, double the ram, an awesome screen and a much better future proofed mac than the Air :)

I've got my poor iMac waiting for me to go back to it upstairs too. In what ways are you finding it hard to move between the two? :D
Thanks for this info - I was debating MBA v rMBP mainly in terms of portability. I couldn't justify the Air's price, even if it is lower than it used to be, for such a low res screen when a device like the Pro exists.

Question - This is the one that JUST game out, right? The education discount for me brings it from £999 to £940, not £850. £850 would be a really sweet price so may I ask how you went about the education discount? I (will be by the time I buy it) a University student.

EDIT: Sorted it, Apple Edu store is not as discounted as specific Uni stores.

I just purchased a mid 2014 2.6/8/256 model from the apple store and it is perfect! I got the samsung SSD and the display is crisp and beautiful. I have two questions though..

1. I transferred my stuff from my old mac using Time Machine. Is that bad in any way in terms of weird corrupt settings/battery life/performance?

2. Does anyone know how to check the screen manufacturer on the 13 inch retina pros? The script that's on the internet doesn't work. Just wanted to know. Thanks!

Glad you sorted it. I think it's a standard 6% for General Education (what you first found), 10% for colleges/sixth forms which are on Apples system and 15% for University. I was only expecting the 10%, however got the 15% discount and 3 year extended warranty as Uni students would because my college was affiliated with our local university on Apple's system.

If you're not on campus, you may be better off just ringing Apple and giving your Uni Place Offering's details over the phone for the 15%. :) Good luck with your new mac! ;)

I just received my 15" rMBP 2.5/512/16 with 750M, or at least that's what I thought I ordered. On the spec sheet on the box, that's what it says I have, but when I go into "About My Mac" it says I only have the Iris Pro. What gives?

Go to About this Mac > More Info > System Report >Graphics and Displays to see it shows Nvidia 750M. If it doesn't then you need to call Apple to exchange it.

Just placed my order for the mid 2014 13" pro 2.8/16/512 and I am so excited! This is my first MacBook. The wait until 8/20 is going to be long.

just received my late 2013 2.4/8/256 13.3 :):) loving it so far, but does anyone know why I don't decent fps on the binding of issac (its a light game)?

Hi all. I'm thinking about making the switch from windows to OS. Where are the best deals? And should I avoid eBay/craigslist?

Hey Mate! Congrats on the purchase. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the total for your rMBP?

Thanks!

After 15 years of PCs bought my first 2014 rMBP with dGPU. Looks and feels outstanding. Eager to learn OSX. One concern that the display is of LG. I hope they patched all the previous issues. Plus I really hope this MBP laptop will last me long time unlike others which breaks from day to day usage. :)

Cheers everyone! Just got my 15" Retina MacBook Pro Mid 2014 2.2 GHz today! This is my first time to get my hands on a Mac, and so far I'm very satisfied with it. I now see the reason why everyone's turning to Mac, the unit is absolutely wonderful and using it is so much fun.

One question though, did anyone got Horndis to work with the Mid 2014 model? I have a Galaxy S4 which I want to tether to my rMBP for internet, but the S4 is not getting found on the network panel. Thanks in advance.

The advice about craigslist and eBay is the same as for anything you get from those sites: Just be careful. Apple sell very good refurbished models at discounted prices too.

Thanks!

I had the student discount so it was $1,879USD without tax. I also get a $100 Apple Store gift card with it.

Finally received my 15" rMBP, 2.2Ghz/16GB/256GB model with Intel Iris Pro graphics this morning here! I live in SEA.

Have to say coming from a 13", it feels like an upgrade and I really LOVE the extra screen estate. Since college is starting for me, I can already foresee how much this extra screen estate is going to aid me for school. Tried downloading CS:GO and FM14 to see how Intel Iris Pro runs on it and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Haven't really done any battery tests yet, but this machine is a beast so to be honest I'm not really concerned as long as it lasts me a reasonable amount of time. Oh, and not to forget, the weight is absolutely astonishingly light given the size of this machine. :apple:

Hope this aids some people who have the dilemma on whether this beast's capabilities. :p

I just received my Macbook Pro 15 - inch in the mail this morning! 16gb/2.2ghz/512GB w/ Iris Pro. Same impressions as most that have ordered a 15-inch laptop.

This is the first time I've owned a retina computer and after upgrading from a 2008 Macbook I am absolutely astonished by the screen clarity and crispness. The new Macbook is amazingly fast and I am extremely impressed.

Although, I have decided to return it to grab the discrete GPU model instead because I personally would rather have it for mobile gaming and am looking to get into some heavy graphics work. I wish I read more reviews before I ordered but I am in no rush.

For anything else though, this laptop is no slouch at ALL.

After more than 4 years I'm finally retiring my 2010 2.4Ghz MBP :)

Just ordered the 2.8Ghz/750m/1TB 15 inch rMBP and will hopefully last me another few years at least (considering I use the MBP as a desktop replacement). I was disappointed that the GPU wasn't changed in the update but I can't afford to wait any longer - even with an SSD my 2010 was getting sluggish when programming in college, downloading from usenet and gaming. Time for an update :D

Just received my base 13" rMBP today. Got it booted up and starting to set things up when I noticed a small knick on the side next to the keyboard. Bummer...

It is packaged up and ready to be returned.

Now that I am psyched for a new rMBP, I need it now. The closest store that sells them is 1 hour away. I will be making the trip tomorrow after work.
