Posting from my brand new 15"mac.. I go this for $1630 at the BB.com. With the BB rewards and the 5% cash back from Discover, effective price should be $1530. I don't know if this is a good price but I'm tired of waiting for a deal and I'm happy with what I paid. :) :)

Configuration -
15.4” rMBP
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
256GB Flash Drive

This is my first ever mac. Still learning the ropes....

Same as what i bought, but your less than 500$ than mine :( score !! You will love this machine, i sure love mine !

29th November, I bought a 13" MacBook Pro Retina, 128GB, 8GB memory.
Later that day, I took it back, and got the MacBook Pro 500GB, 4GB memory.

I wanted something that I could expand in time. Apparently, with the MacBook Pro Retina, the memory is soldered onto the motherboard. Hence only Apple and Co. can upgrade it for you...

Albeit, I'm still on the fence with my purchase. This is my FIRST ever MAC.

I would have bought the one with the most memory. ( ram )

Bought one from B&H

$1699 which is 15% off, no tax (which is a big deal for us in CA!). So is there anything I need to know about buying from B&H? The computer still comes with standard Apple Care support right? I've only bought Macs from Apple directly in the past.

Albeit, I agree. I couldn't afford the more expensive one with more memory, outright. But, with the MacBook Pro I did buy, I can upgrade the memory myself, cheaper, too ;)

In Georgia it does. Once you buy it, register it on your Apple account, and you're covered...

On the one you bought can you change hdd too ?

Yes. On the MacBook Pro Retina, that needs to be done by Apple (apparently).
I've searched about this online in other forums, and even people I've spoken with have confirmed this.

It seems the MacBook Pro 2012 edition owners can basically have at it! LOL

The "I just ordered / bought / got my new/refurb MBP" threads, merged

The California government gave me $2500 for leasing an electric car. So I took that money and bought the 15 inch, 2.5 ghz i7 rMBP with 16 gigs of memory and 512 gig of storage ram.

I paid $2250 at Best Buy before taxes. That is the cheapest price I could find. Cheaper than Macmall, cheaper than Apple and cheaper than Amazon.

I am finally on an all Apple platform. iPhone 6, iPad rMini, and now rMBP.

Having used all three for just a fe days I can tell you this: no one beats Apple when it comes to integration of all your personal electronic. This is because Apple is the only company that I know that controls hardware and software. It is really a thing of beauty.

Hi,
Just opened my rMBP 13', mid 2014, 2.6/8ram/128gb.
Got it on BF at BB. Had a really hard time deciding btw MPA 1.4/ 8ram(upgraded)/128gb. The difference is $250. MBA @ 999.99 and rMBP @1249.99 (Cdn prices)

This is my first Mac. Don't really know what I need to set up. It came with OS X Maverick. Just downloaded Yosemite haven't installed it yet.

Should I partition the hard drive? Only 128gb...?

Just pulled the trigger on 13.3" MacBook Pro. 256GB / 16GB RAM / 2.8GHz i5

There will always be a better computer/phone/tablet to wait for. If you think that way, then you will never buy anything. Just buy what you want/need when you can find it for a decent price. You will be happier that way.

Agree! I was this way as well, that's why I waited so long. IMO the specs these days are more than sufficient it's not like the pass where the difference is ground breaking.

Why do we as humans struggle with buyers remorse?
I just bought a MacBook Pro 4GB memory, with 500GB hard drive (I'm about to replace the hard drive to an SSD 256GB, and make the memory 8GB). But, I'm still on the fence if I even need the bloody thing...

I have an HP Workstation Z600. Powerful computer with Windows 7.

The idea with the MacBook was to install Fusion, and thus a few VMs. Now I'm thinking I could save that money, and simply do so on my Z600. Albeit, since Saturday when I bought it, I've learned A LOT!

EDIT: (update)
Thanks for everyone's help. Thus far I've experienced a few issues here and there. Albeit, time to return the Macbook. I'll stick with my current desktop and upgrade certain components...

More like Autumn / Fall for 15"

Do you wanna wait til spring?

If you're after a Broadwell rMBP 15, I think you'll be waiting until September/October - the CPU are supposed to be released in July, and it might take Apple a couple of months to release a new model.

I pulled the trigger on a Haswell rMBP 15 last week. Broadwell will be a small upgrade, mostly in terms of reduced power consumption I believe.

"Albeit" is used to apply a contrasting adverb to a previous statement, such as:

"he was making progress, albeit rather slowly."

I'm getting some back dated redundancy pay which I'm going to get a 15" MBPr with when it comes, I just don't know when it will arrive!! Ughh I can't wait!

First week with my new rMBP 15

So, I've been using my new (refurb) rMBP 15 for a week now, having migrated from a 2013 MBA 13. Here are my impressions:

1) Size & Weight: Initially, the rMBP felt huge and heavy compared to the MBA. However, for practical purposes, it doesn't seem to add much weight to what I normally carry in my backpack. So the extra weight has proved to be a non-issue, with one exception - I can no longer carry the computer "open" by the edge with one hand; it's just too heavy!

2) Screen: This is a lot better than the MBA, but I very quickly got used to it, and it now appears normal. If I go back to a lesser quality screen, they look awful in comparison. Basically, I've just raised the bar on my expectations. I have settled on 1680x1050 as the ideal resolution.

3) Speed: at first, I didn't think there was much difference between the MBA and rMBP, but once I started using it for real work with lots of apps open, I can definitely feel that the rMBP is significantly faster.

4) Heat & Fans: whilst I was syncing DropBox, doing Spotlight indexing etc. the rMBP seemed to get quite warm and the fans would kick in. Now that it's settled down, it's quite cool when doing basic browsing / writing tasks.

5) Battery: obviously less than the MBA, but not too bad. During initial sync it was alarmingly only showing 2.5-3 hours remaining, but now it's generally 8-10 hours after a full charge. I haven't done a real time test, but it seems quite good for a large machine.

6) Ergonomics: not quite as good as the MBA. The rMBP has "sharper" edges, and is not quite as comfortable to type on for me. However, I've adapted my posture to avoid the sharp bits (particularly the "cut-out" below the trackpad), so I've got used to it.

Overall: I'm pretty happy with my choice. It's a bit like going from an upmarket compact car to a luxury sedan - it just feels like it's got more power, and provides a comfortable ride.

Hi guys. I just got my new rMBP. I think it is mid 2014. I wonder if and when the late 2014 models be released?
