After two decades using a PC, I decided to finally go with Mac. Today I bought a 2014 13.3" Macbook Pro with an i5 processor, 16gb of ram, and a 256gb SSD. I thought this was a better deal than the 8gb of ram and 512gb SSD model. I also added a WD 2TB My Passport Drive and a USB 2.0 hub for my other peripherals. It will arrive Friday and I am giddy as hell.

Just got a 13" rmbp 2.8/8gb/256gb

having second thoughts .. thinking i want a 15 even though i have an iMac for the heavy lifting

Love my new MacBook pro

I just recently bought a 13.3 inch MacBook pro with retina.......it's amazing, the display is the best I've ever seen. Colors are very vibrant and pictures look stunning.

The trackpad is amazing as well. I've always used windows and wasn't sure if I was going to get used to a new system but i might never go back to windows now!

first new Mac in 7 years

Just bought the October 2013 13' rMBP 2.4ghz, 8gb ram, 256 ssd. Coming from a 2007 15' that has no battery and no speed. :D

I just bought a Late 2014 15" 16GB/2.2ghz/256gb on amazon for $1,799 after tax. I saw that B&P had it listed for $50 less just after I bought it. I called Amazon, and after tell them the webpage it was on, they credited me back $50... So I was able to get it for $1,749 after tax.

Anyone who buys on Amazon... remember to keep checking other prices for up to 30 days after you make a purchase. They don't advertise it, but they will often match any price.

Also, first time Mac owner. Any software or setup options that are "musts"?

I just got the $2499 Retina for $2481 total with taxes and shipped from Best buy

i think Best buy over prices their products!

----------

The California government gave me $2500 for leasing an electric car. So I took that money and bought the 15 inch, 2.5 ghz i7 rMBP with 16 gigs of memory and 512 gig of storage ram.

I paid $2250 at Best Buy before taxes. That is the cheapest price I could find. Cheaper than Macmall, cheaper than Apple and cheaper than Amazon.

I am finally on an all Apple platform. iPhone 6, iPad rMini, and now rMBP.

Having used all three for just a fe days I can tell you this: no one beats Apple when it comes to integration of all your personal electronic. This is because Apple is the only company that I know that controls hardware and software. It is really a thing of beauty.

thats not a bad price i paid around the same with apple with my student discount

Unexpected gift from Apple!

Thanks to advice on this forum I ordered a MBP Retina 13" i5 2.8 Ghz with 16GB Ram.

It arrived yesterday afternoon and to my surprise it has been upgraded to the i7 3.0 Ghz!!

I'm guessing this was due to low stock availability of the 2.8 over Christmas. Is this normal practice for Apple or have I just been very lucky?

I just ordered a refurbished 2014 15.4" Macbook Pro Retina 2.5/16GB/512GB/750m. I'm upgrading from a late 2013 13" MBPr 2.6/8/512 GB. My 13" MBPr is currently my primary computer. I hope the refurbished 15.4 MBPr is flawless when it arrives.

They usually are, mine was. Typing on it right now :)

I ordered a mid-'14 refurb at Apple.com yesterday for $1099. 8gb/128. I could have ordered a new one for a few bucks more on B&H but they don't participate in the Navy Federal member mall, so it would have been 1pt/$1. By buying the refurb via member mall I get 2pts/$1 spent. Totally worth it to me. Now let's see if I can get four or maybe five years out of it! :)

Keeping fingers crossed I get this lucky in about 10 days!

Price Hike

Lucky I ordered my new rMBP 13", 16Gb, 512SSD last week. Due to the strength of the US dollar and the weak Norwegian Kroner, Apple just bumped up the price on New Years Day by 350 dollars.

Who knows what the coming upgrade will cost now? Sure am happy my machine is on its way to me and I ordered when I did. Perfect

HAPPY*NEW*YEAR!

Refurb is definitely the way to go. I got my 15 inch retina back at the end of July. Ordered it on 29 July and received it the next day. Got it for $2,025 before taxes. First class condition and only 6 cycles on the battery.
Downloaded battery health app and it showed my Mac was only manufactured in April 2014, so it was only 3 months old and fully cleaned and tested after presumably being returned.

Saved myself 20% off the newly released rMBP which was released on the same day and only had to compromise on accepting 0.2 Ghz slower clock speed. For me it was a no brainer to get the refurb model.

I just ordered a refurbed Oct 2013 15" rMBP 2.0 Ghz i7, 8GB Ram, 256 GB SSD, Intel Iris Pro from Apple.com. I'm looking forward to my first MAC.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for that model?

Uggghhh - The fedex tracking page says my MPB is on fedex vehicle for delivery as of 429am 03Jan, but underneath that it says "scheduled for delivery next business day". Talk about taunting someone! Plus they shipped it GROUND, not even two easy flights from Harrisburg-Memphis-Tampa! They trucked it from Harrisburg to Orlando then to Tampa.
