so i just looked into the screen 'mmod' thing and the last four are

A02A

being that the ones we mentioned in the stores have that number we can assume that it is possibly the better of the screens available?

That's the assumption but even among the supposed "good" ones you will undoubtedly get some bad ones as well.

Since I've starting reading into the issues people are having with the screens I've become ultra paranoid (my 14 days is up sunday). Seems like the screen is amazing but the paranoia has me wanting perfection....

If your screen looks good to your eyes then what's there to be paranoid about? If there was an issue with your screen you would most likely have noticed right away.

So it's escaped the box!

Compiles LLVM + Clang in 15 minutes. I used to leave my Air running overnight to do the same thing...

The screen is really nice, and everything in OSX is really smooth - yes even Mission Control.

Not sure it feels 3x faster (as the benchmarks I was looking at indicated), but I haven't really pushed it yet. I need another copy of Windows to try out Parallels...

So instead I just pulled the trigger on a brand new 2015 13" rMBP and it sure is beautiful! I'm still getting used to the added size and thickness compared to my Air. But the Retina display really makes up for it.

Thickness and weight, yes, but the MBP is actually smaller than the Air in the other two dimensions ;)

Anyway, I just joined the rMBP club, too, after 14 years of Windows which served me well. Built two computers (with help, first time at 10yo) each half the price of this new Macbook that both lasted 7 years. They're still great machines, it's absolutely crazy how much value you can get if you do research, buy top-quality brands and assemble it yourself.

But with laptops that mostly goes out the window and it's hard to beat Apple. As I needed OS X for work and needed something more mobile, I opted for this machine. It's gorgeous, zippy and perhaps the biggest part is that I love the software. Some things are killing me after 15 years of brain memory, like this new cmd button doing almost everything, all these new shortcuts are a pain the first month(s?). But overall it's really, really great software. Any command line stuff that was always a pain on Windows just works.

Looking around for a good sleeve/case now, recommendations are welcome.

Bought it for 1400 btw, considering in 4 years I can still get 400 for it. Meaning it's roughly 20 bucks a month. Pretty damn cheap for a state of the art productivity machine I use for the work that nets me a few grand a month. Gotto love the 21st century.

So I've spent about a month working out what to replace my 4-year-old-Air with.

I've just been in the Apple store in Covent Garden and bought the (almost) maxed-out Retina 13" 512/16/i7. I don't need the i7 but I wanted the RAM upgrade and I wanted to buy in-store - and that's the config they stock.

It's in it's box downstairs, waiting...

It seems I can't tear myself away from the Air even now.

Is that the new 2015 model ? If so I'm surprised they had it in store. I was under impression the i7 and extra 8GB of RAM were only available as build to order options on their web site. How come you were able to purchase it in store.

I agree, that's odd that the store had that configuration available. I had to order mine online as build-to-order.

I wonder if they are just stocking a few for people like us these days. I was able to find one also

Is there a certain pattern to the update of the Refurb store? A certain day of the week better to check than another? Or is it just random and checking daily is best? I'm probably going to order next week, $$ wise.

From my observations it seems to be random and it's best to check as often as possible.

Ok...thank you!

Just thought I'd ask since I haven't ever ordered before. I've been looking (at random times) for months but now it will be more routine since I'm ready to order now.

I'm looking at getting a 2014 rMBP, 8gb/256 ssd...for about $1150 (that was the price of the last one that was available a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be a bit less! ;) Can't wait. I've been waiting for one since October!

After using 10% movers coupon and $50 edu off macbooks stacked at Best Buy, I got the 2015 8/256 13" for $1304+tax ($1412). Returned my refurbished 2014 rMBP 8/256 that was $1150+tax ($1234). Price difference of $178, worth it in my mind.

I just ordered the I7/16/512 rMBP but I'll probably end up returning it due to the lag :/

Jeeez, already jumping on the complaining bandwagon and you don't even have your machine yet.

With all the lag and bad screens out there it's a wonder apple has sold any 2015s.... (Yes sarcastic)

Sorry I'm generally pessimistic about everything but you are right I should wait till I get my device.

What a terrible way to go through life!!!

Hopefully the perfect rmbp that you receive will help turn that mindset around :)

Went to Best Buy yesterday and picked up the 2015 13" rMBP 2.7GHz/8GB Ram/128GB SSD. Really enjoy the display. Bought the MBA last year but returned it after a few days and bought the 2012 mac mini and put 16GB ram in it.
