How do you like the speakers by the way. I read all sorts of reviews ranging from hey they sound great, not nearly as good as 2.4, abysmal, or bad but still better than windows laptops typically. Hard to judge based on all sorts of different reviews.

The speakers on the 1.4ghz are fine. Not as good as the 2.4ghz, but no problem.

I'm happy with them, although speaker quality isn't my priority and I don't have any other MBP to compare them against.

It's good enough for watching a movie, youtube or listening to music while working on the machine.

Just had my 2019 15” 2.3 i9 delivered and I have noticed a tiny scratch near the speaker.

This was brand new sealed. Am I obsessing over nothing and is this normal?

I know the Touch Bar gets a lot of hate on here, but it's nice viewing PDFs in full screen and selecting pages from the Touch Bar.

I just can't believe how much lighter this 15 inch MBP is than my 2012 13 inch, I gained 2 inches and lost a pound.

I love the Touch Bar to scroll in Photos, music, videos... It's especially efficient in Final Cut Pro as soon as you get use to it... Heck.. I just used it to turn this texto into bold... And this one italic.

On a more serious note it depends on the apps you use, it's quite handy in Parallels. A few of the people I know has customised it's own thing in BetterTouchTool too.

I had a similar mark on the 1.4ghz Pro I returned. In my case, I actually think it was more of a "molding" imperfection than a scratch, and yours look very much the same. I'd probably just ignore it myself, but as I returned it, I'll never know for sure. ;-)

Wow, it's already Q3 2019 and Apple still have this problem since 2016! I returned my two MBP 15 2017 units and got refund due this cosmetic issue.

Ask for a replacement unit or refund. We pay so much $$$ and this kind of quality is unacceptable.

I would have returned it for that blemish. These units cost enough that blemishes should not be acceptable.

I ordered the 2019 i9 8 core 15 inch pro at launch day had it for a while now and I absolutely love it use it everyday had no problems so far only overheating but that's fixed with deleting my history every now and then. I used to have a 2015 pro but it got liquid damaged so I went a couple years without a laptop but then I ended up caving in and got the 2019 when they released it cause I missed having a Mac

You do so much ******* surfing the Mac overheats? Kudos mate! ;-)

I got a ever so slight "imperfection" on my new unit, but it's very slight (looks almost like a smudge) and it's right next to a rubber foot at the bottom - that I can actually live with as everything else is pristine.

Btw, I really like this 2.4ghz model. I haven't made a proper comparison, but I'd say that the keyboard actually feels better (I know that it shouldn't) and the fans are quite a bit better - they don't ramp up as easily as the MBA and the MBP13 1.4ghz. Also, I do actually feel that the speakers have a nicer sound to them.

All in all it's killer machine. I never had 16gb of ram in a new Mac before, and it shows even on everyday tasks. Everything is blazing fast. :)

Just received my first MacBook Pro, I went for the 15" base model. I still had some life left in my Unidays account so made good use of the discount.

I just need to find a good protective case for it now, paranoid of marking it!

Ordered a new refurb 2019 15" i9 -- I've been holding out for a while hoping for the new model, but it looks like whatever might be announced this month will be over $3,000. I figure when I pick it up from the store (likely Wednesday) I should have enough time to see if there is an announcement before my return period expires. I'm using a late 2013 13" now very excited for the faster machine.

Just got my new 15" MBP. Vega 20, 2.4Ghz i9, 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. Finally replacing my old early 2011 15" MBP. Only problem is SMC fan control doesn't work anymore :/ what's the recommendation for a replacement for that. (I'm glad it didn't have Catalina installed though, because I'm not giving up dashboard :p )

Got to say, the touch bar is fun though.

Bugger, that's the only legit looking one I could find, and it's just a bit overcomplicated compared to the old SMC Fan Control, but lacks features I used a lot without having to upgrade to pro (saving presets) and lacks RPM and temp readout in the menu bar altogether.

I’m skipping this gren so I just picked up a late 2015 with a new battery. The upgrade to Catalina was a bit hairy and I thought I turned my “new to me” MBP into a paper weight an hour after receiving it. Luckily a few internet recovery tries finally fixed it. It was fairly cheap so it should hold me over till the next generation since I’m just using it for web dev.

Can also use iStat, that's what I have been doing for now.
Cool, I didn't realise how much iStat menus could do. I still have the old iStat Pro in Dashboard which is great, but the fan readouts are all wrong now thanks to Apple changing how all that works

1.4/16/512 is exactly what I went with, haven't regretted it. I was thinking of the 2.4 but since it is so close to the 2.4 and that I'm fine with 1 fan, 2 ports and the speakers as they are I couldn't justify putting out more cash.
That’s the one I just bought. It’s my first quad-core and I really like the performance. I don’t think I’d notice much difference with the 2.4GHz model.

Got the space gray base model the other day at Costco. I was going to wait until holiday sales but don't think it would get much cheaper. So far so good. No backlight bleed, no artifacts with Mojave and Catalina, no blemishes, battery issues, heat issues, etc. The keyboard keys are a tad more firm and a better feel than my 2017 model. I love the TouchID sensor.
