Just ordered 16" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, 9th-Gen 8-Core Intel i9 2.3GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB, Space Gray, Late 2019. The 8GB AMD Radeon Pro 5500M is more than I needed but there were reasons I bought it where I bought it and it was pre-configured. The machine is an upgrade from my late 2013 15" MBP with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. (I was having some HW-related issues with it recently and just don't want it to crash and die at the wrong time. It has served me well.)

One question: Would it have been better to go with the 2.4GHz CPU than the extra GBs on the graphics chip? I am general business user though I often have many, many windows open and apps running, often with multi-tabs going on three different browsers simultaneously. I do not do any graphics work and am active with Photos but not a heavy photo editor. Any kind of latency in my workflow drives me nuts and I don't mind paying for the luxury of minimizing it.

Thanks so much.

My order was placed on 18th and dispatched on 20th. I had a delivery date of 28th then 26th but it’s slowly moved back to 28th.
It’s apparently still in Incheon or at least on a flight now I hope.
My last MBP was a late 2009 model and I have an iMac 2016 currently, plus an iPad Pro.

16-inch MacBook Pro - Space Grey

Just ordered a 2020 13” MBP in Space Gray with the 10th Gen i5/16GB/512GB SSD configuration.

Happy to be going back to Mac :apple: for my work laptop. We do a lot of text groups and things we need to snip from webpages and it’ll be so convenient being able to text directly from my laptop with iCloud messages.

Should be here Friday the 29th!

Just grabbed a base model 16” with 1TB SSD Refurb to replace the ageing 2013 13” MBP that finally died yesterday.

Should have it tomorrow morning - I’ll be interested to see what its like as it‘ll be a hell of an upgrade and it’s my first experience with Apple Refurb...

So my new 16" that was scheduled to arrive next Wednesday has arrived today nearly a whole week early. Literally just set it up and typing this on it.

Its a lovely bit of kit and quite a jump in quality over the old 2009 MBP I had back then.

Ordered both of my daughters refurbished MacBook Pro 13 halfway through their senior year of high school. Both have had them for over four years with heavy daily use during the school year and no problems at All.

Just ordered a 16" MBP (2.3 I9, 32gb ram, 5500 with 4GB, 1TB ) refurb for myself. Yes its more than I ever need, but then again its replacing my 2012 rMBP which was also more than I need and look how long that machine lasts. Recently upgraded the SSD to 1TB and replaced the battery and machine is ready for a few more years. however I cannot afford to stare at that screen that burns in so easily, and a severely underpowered GPU unable to keep up with the scaling at that time. I do miss all the ports though. no need for any adapters. USB-A, SD card slot, HDMI.

Just bought a 2020 13" MacBook Pro (10th gen/i5/16Gb/1Tb).

Hoping it can replace both my faulty Dell desktop computer and my current laptop (12" 2016 MacBook) as I like the idea of just having one device.

Just ordered my new 13" MacBook Pro, the top model, 10th Gen 2.0GHz/16GB/1TB SSD, should be the perfect portable companion to my 27" iMac for editing photos / working on the go. Paid £1798.80 with my education discount too! Silver too!

Recently part-exchanged my iPad Pro for a 12" MacBook and having macOS available to me away from my desk has been a massive help! MacBook will now be sold on once the Pro arrives at the end of May.

Well, this arrived yesterday a week ahead of schedule, first impressions are good, it's great to have a MacBook back, I've only gone through the initial set up and then put it to task downloading my 16,000 strong (RAW) photo library. I may get to use the MacBook by its original delivery date if I'm lucky!!

Welp, looks like this thread is a great start for my first post. I just got a 13" Retina early 2015 MBP, 2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8GB memory 1867 MHz DDR3, 251GB storage. I was blessed with this machine as it belonged to a close friend of mine that had recently upgraded to a 2019 this last Christmas. The screen had some bad delaminating issues on the screen and was running "slow" so he just let it sit for a while. I was in the market for a laptop as my 11 year old Samsung laptop was on it's last leg so he offered it to me for free. After that, I was able to reset the laptop to factory settings and Apple warrantied out the screen so this thing is basically brand new. This is my first Apple laptop and am enjoying the experience so far. I have other Apple products so most of it feels natural. I'll have to practice with the commands and see what apps will be best for me. I work in the automotive performance industry so most of my work is social media and using Shopify for our webstore.

My 13 inch MacBook Pro should be arriving next week. I love my MacBook Air but it's time for something a bit more powerful and slightly bigger. Super excited.

Well, I was waiting for the 2020 iMac but yesterday I bought the 2020 13" MacBook Pro. The base model with 10th Intel chips. In 3 hours I will pick it up at the store. This is going to be my first time with macOS, can't wait!

So I've officially joined the "I have as Mac Pro as my daily driver" club........ A couple of observations on day 2 of the adventure.....

1) The Touch Bar, IMHO, has been way too heavily trashed by the articles I've seen in the past. Typing this comment gives me basic typing shortcuts in the Touch Bar, which I've always wished were their own hotkeys for a long time. It's well built, even if it's lacking at times. It has been a little confusing relearning Final Cut with the addition of the Touch Bar.... and to that I have to say "It's annoying, but it's a good change."

2) For being a base model Pro laptop, where the damned air current is guided through the friggin keyboard (I still can't get over this as a functional thing), and being someone who likes to smoke while editing... I'll just say this about performance on the base model: I had this Macbook sitting on a small towel, on top of a very hot stone table, air temperature being 100+f, sitting under an umbrella, and it did struggle with video playback, this being due to multiple inputs from me and rendering a video while asking it to play said video at the same time. I think a combination of poor heat dissipation and the CPU being properly thermal throttled (aka lower clock speed from the "boost") became the cause of that. Then again, I like to think that's a great way to test the CPUs and graphics performance under a high stress environment, without needing to overload it with processes. I was actually satisfied with what I saw, the overall "wait time" before the computer caught up and said "I'm sorry, was a little hot, but I'm done with that thing that bothered me... what do you need?" It just got back up with no sweat, no more playback problems, and my stripped down 'editing' sprint continued. Not sure exactly what made a 30 second system wide lag occurr, but I'm not complaining about that with it being used in a desert setting.

3) My biggest gripe is the lack of MagSafe, but I'd much rather make inputs/outputs an actual options list to pick from, and the MacBook gets made to fit that spec. Why? I'm that eccentric, I guess?

4) For the amount of money I personally spent upfront, and the financing deal I got, I have to sum it up in two points. It's definitely an affordable piece of equipment, but it is extremely limited in real world video editing capabilities for someone who is stressing each core (basically, non turbo clock speed sucks hard, and better heat dissipation would mean better turbo performance, and to that I say "gimme better performance for $1400, please".... and the second is just "I got what I paid for, but I'm quite concerned about real world performance if I had bought a better spec'd CPU." I think for the price, I accidentally found a great compromise for a computer that will get some genuine outdoor editing use during this summer, even if only in small bursts from now on (no need to kill it lol). I'm also scaling back my current services because I can't edit on the fly at an outdoor shoot right now. Why pay more for something I'm still limited with performance wise? I remember the days when I ran a laptop with the same basic specs (just non turbo/OC'd clock speeds), and I had a better spec'd laptop overall for my task... it's quite a limited experience.

I've always been one to use low end equipment to get by for a number of reasons, and my previous laptop was the '15 base model Air. This is I think I overpaid in some ways, but I also haven't. The size is right for me, overall performance in high heat environments is satisfactory for a smoke break, and I have an excuse to edit at home all the time. It'll also handle the majority of what I need, and the rest of what I offer for services I can use another Mac for. No buyer's remorse over here!

TL;DR- You lazy little... okay, I like this thing. I desire a different design and performance for my money, but what it's capable of for the tasks I will put it through (a minimalist editing/production workflow) it is perfectly acceptable. Take what you want from my ramblings. I need something to do while the tv is occupied, as I'm having "new game console withdrawals" right now ?

Took delivery of my 2020 13" i7/16/512 the other day, upgrade from my 2011 15" MBP non-retina. First impressions are very very good, beautifully built, feels super slim next to my old MBP.

As soon as we get this issue sorted with kernel panics during sleep it'll be perfect...

Newbie here. I've had my new 2020 MBP 13 (A2251 16GB/512GB TBx4) for a week now. It's my first MacBook, and I love it, but in my line of work, I'm on YT a lot, and I'm already having an issue with choppy video playback after watching many YT videos. For a 2020 axe, I'm expecting flawless playback even after clearing caches and I'm pretty disappointed. I understand that there's no dedicated GPU (if that's even an issue) but 16GBs of RAM getting bogged down from just watching videos? Smh. Everything else is great. Any suggs would be welcomed.

Depending on what you're asking it to do while it's playing videos.... If you're having playback problems while only watching videos, then I would have a chat with the Apple guys. Even Chrome shouldn't cause that kind of problem. That kind of problem is when I look for someone that can diagnose by poking around my computer, or guide me through it lol. Are you also using your MacBook in a desert setting, while it's 100+ outside? ?

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, only watching videos, not doing any video editing, rendering, or exporting on the machine, wifi is high speed so it's not that either. I know Google is a hog, and YT too, but I don't have these issues on any other device, so I'm chapped a bit. I especially experience it when I'm switching to and from full screen. The videos will freeze, and then chase when it catches up. When it freezes, I'm not able to click anywhere on the page.

If you haven't already, see if the Apple chat people can walk you through some stuff, poke around a bit, see where you can kill live processes that are hogs and find the reason they started. That's what I used to do on my Windows boxes, not entirely fluent with my Macs yet lol.

If you have had no luck with them, see if any local repair shops have ideas they can recommend over the phone. Phone calls are cheap, and sometimes you get lucky with a fix. If you offer some sort of payment for an extended phone call/webcam chat, that's probably not a bad idea if you'd rather not leave the computer in the shop for a few days. If I have anything that needs "repair" of some sort pop up with anything non-mac (that's all I own under a warranty), I'm seeing who will do a call of some sort to help me. Bonus nachos for the people who provide an email with links ?

Hey, a lot is different nowadays; get friggin creative! See who is happy to do more without physically doing the work that costs them money to do! Diagnosing some computer stuff can cost ya money when you scale it out... try to cut their corners for them, and get some extra service that is a win/win. Someone will jump at the chance. Worst case, you wasted a few hours and it costs you your usual phone bill ?
