I just bought a 14" M4 Pro.

I was originally going to get an M4 base model for $1300, but I wanted the matte screen. That lost the black friday discounts since no one except Apple seems to have nano in stock. With the extra almost $350, that put it at a price point where I want AppleCare. And when I added in Apple Care, I was over $2000... So I bit the bullet and got a nicely spec'd M4 Pro.

It's been about a decade since I last bought a computer that wasn't a base model, and I'm looking forward to it.

I ordered a Space Black M4 Pro with 16 GB/1 TB last night, Amazon Germany’s Black Friday sale. Delivery date November 30. Apart from RAMxiety I’m only worried that it will slit my wrists when I have it in my lap – I’m a writer and I spend a lot of time, welp, writing. I’m upgrading from an M1 MBA that will soon need a battery replacement and I can offload it for €700 as it is, so I convinced myself that I’m only really spending €1100 for a computer I intend to keep for five years. I was going to wait for the M4 MBA, but if/when the tariffs in the US happen, the only sure thing about the price is that it will definitely not drop.

It just arrived. It was ordered from Amazon Germany. To my surprise – I guessed a moment before I opened the box – it has a German keyboard. With the schei– ß key and all. I don’t know whether to keep it, I don’t look at the keyboard while typing anyway, but… those keys… 😬 are… there…

You can laugh. I’m trying to as well. Of COURSE it would occur to me a week after the purchase and seconds before opening the box. At least I can return it until January 5.

Edit: I love it so much I decided to return it. I got used to the keyboard within a minute, but thing is, I can’t unsee it. And the promotional price was not low enough to warrant me replacing the keycaps and risking losing the warranty.

How are custom build delivery times doing at the moment vs initial estimates? (UK based would be particularly helpful)

Returned my release day M4 Pro 14” 14/20 48GB 1TB and reordered with the nano texture screen after seeing it in Apple Store.

Currently got a delivery estimate of 12th-16th Dec

Ordered mine a week ago today, shipped on Wednesday, sat in Shanghai for two days and moved through to the UK over the weekend with UPS. Should be delivered tomorrow.

Do you remember what date you were quoted when ordering?

I purchased mine this past Saturday. 14 inch MBP Pro 24GB/1TB version w/ Nano texture. Originally quoted Dec. 13-17. Got tracking already & said it's coming the 11th. Coming from China.

I've gone for a 14" M4 (base) MBP with 32GB RAM and 512GB, with the nano-display. If I knew for sure the M4 Air would have a 32GB RAM option and a USB-C port on the right I might have waited for the 15" M4 Air, but my original 15" touch bar MBP has lost Homebrew updates (unless I install an old Xcode), Time Machine has gone a little flaky, so I "need" a new one now. If it turns out the PWM screen messes with my eyes/head I can send it back and wait for the Air.

I was almost going for 1TB disk, but then I realised I can get 1TB external SSDs for less than half what Apple want for the extra 512GB on board!

Maxing the RAM on the base M4 makes it cost exactly as much as an M4 Pro, but the Pro model then needs another pricey upgrade to get over 32GB of RAM. Given my work Mac Pro uses 24GB now (and needs swap to do it), I think the 32GB RAM is more likely to give me another 8 years. Mostly I just need a machine that can hold my ludicrous number of browser tabs open and run a chunky IDE, which is a RAM problem not a CPU/GPU problem. If it turns out that personal programming or some business I might start needs a massive LLM running locally then ... that'll be a good excuse to get an M7 Pro or whatever when the time comes :).

Arriving today, Base 14" M4 16/1TB with nano in black.
No power user just want a nice screen, pro motion and good speakers.
Nano for back verandah use.
Coming from a 24" 8/512g iMac.

Black 14" M4 Pro 14/20 48/1TB ordered today, arriving 18th - 20th Dec. Will be selling my Studio M1 Max which has been a fantastic machine.

Mines being delivered by UPS. Delivery date has now changed to 10th (from an estimate of 12th-16th) but frustratingly the tracking has had it static in China since the middle of the day on Thursday UK time (it’s now Saturday morning)

Anyone else had experience with similar happening?

Just received my 16" MacBook Pro Silver / 128GB Ram / 4TB SSD / Nano-Texture

Upgrading from an M1 MacBook Pro. Was going to wait until M5 or M6, but with Trump and the threat of these stupid tariffs, decided to get in before prices get jacked way up. Was also going to go for just 64GB Ram and 2TB SSD, but using a service that gives me 36 months no interest with the option to upgrade in two years if I want.

Overall, loving the new MacBook Pro!!!

Mine also got stuck in China for a couple days, before moving to the UK over the weekend - via Korea, UAE and Germany. I believe I read somewhere that UPS is currently experiencing delays in China - probably the culprit.

How do you get such detailed tracking? Is that just through the UPS website or do you have another method?

I have also seen people able to determine which flights their MacBooks are on, again any idea how this is done?

Still there now. Last tracking was 6am Thursday - messed up time zone calculation in my last post.

Annoying. (And yes, I know I’m impatient 😆)

For me the UPS tracking details provided where the shipment went etc.; I think if you match the time of scans you could track the flights but not very sure.

No change to the scans, but the delivery date has now changed to 11th (from 10th) 😠

Interestingly, the tracking jumped from China to showing as arrived in Germany as of a few hours ago, but still saying Wednesday 11th delivery.
Hm, if it's made it to the UK I think it's probably a safe bet to be delivered next working day? Weird that UPS didn't update your tracking until it got to Germany though

Just ordered! 🥳 16-inch MacBook Pro / M4 Max 16-core / 128GB RAM / 8TB SSD / Nano-Texture Display

Full-time music producer / big orchestral libraries / time = $

Coming from 2017 Hackintosh:
Gigabyte X299 Designare
Intel Core i9 7980XE 18-core @ 4.7GHz (Delid + Direct Die + Die Lapping + Liquid Metal + 420MM AIO)
64GB DDR4-3200 16-18-18-38 T1 (Quad-channel)
Radeon 6950XT (Liquid Metal + Thermal Putty)
2x 2TB NVMe SSD (OS/Work)
4x 2TB SATA SSD RAID0 (Sound Libraries)
1500W Corsair PSU (250W idle, 700W CPU load, 1150W CPU + GPU load)
Bonus functionality: fantastic furnace/space heater!

GB6 Single: ~1,600
GB6 Multi: ~14,000
GB6 Metal: ~230,000
CB2024: ~1,400 MacOS / ~1,600 W11
CBR23: ~25,500 MacOS / ~27,000 W11

Hackintosh bugs have compounded the past few OS releases, been using W11 for the last 6 months, not a fan of the audio subsystem at all.

Started having regular crashes and BSODs the past month (with clients in the room) even when lowering OC, which I knew was only a matter of time with the heavy OC and Liquid Metal, it had a good run 🙏🏽

Been running/built my career on hackintoshes since 2013, I don't know what it's like to have a computer without some kind of unfixable background bug(s) anymore but I can't wait to find out 😂

Mine also got stuck in China these past few days - longer than I’d expect.
On the UPS tracking page, near the bottom of the regular tracking info, it says “View all shipping details”. When you click on that it takes you to a more detailed breakdown of the route and timing of your delivery. Definitely interesting to see those details.

Well I ordered a silver 14” MacBook Pro (16GB, 1TB) with nano texture display on 6 December. Seemed like the silver ones were taking a lot longer to turn up the the space black ones. I got a pickup date of 19 December initially but that has come down to 16 December.

Let’s see if it’s an improvement of my current 2010 MacBook!
