I kept mine, but I’ll be returning next years model, especially if it comes with a USB-C port.

I did, bought the 14 Pro, used it for a couple days, and returned it today. I have my 13PM to compare it to and would rather keep my 13PM.

Returned my 14 Pro Max. I've never returned one before like this so fast and with zero regret. Usually it's a tough decision, and I end up keeping it. I've had every iPhone since the beginning. The biggest thing I was looking forward to was the always-on-display but I ended up turning it off very quickly. This is the first year since 2006 that I feel like I'll stick my with 13 Pro Max until iPhone 15. I'll probably just buy a new case to make this phone feel new.

The positives: I did enjoy the island and the space black color.
Thanks for the insight man.

If you don’t mind my asking, what is it that makes you prefer the 13 pm? Is it mostly that the 14pm is not enough of an upgrade to justify the cost, or is there something about the 13 you prefer?

UPDATE: Picked up my refurbished iPhone 11 Pro Max from the Apple Store tonight. Been using it and comparing it side by side with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Man, this iPhone 11 Pro Max is very nice. Better design than the current one. It feels like the iPhone 14 Pro Max is the old model and the 11 Pro Max is the new one design wise.

Here's what I tested and here are my observations:

  • Low light photos. No surprise here, the 14 Pro Max won this. But was it drastically better? No. The 11 Pro Max performed quite well.
  • Screen refresh rates. Seriously, I just can't really notice much difference, even scrolling. I get that the screen refresh rate on the 11 Pro Max is not as fast, but it just isn't that noticeably slower when working on it. Sure, as I tested, I quickly scrolled homescreens horizontally and rapidly jumped back and forth between phones. There is a difference, it's just more subtle.
  • Played a Top Gun 8 k trailer on both. Had one 2 seconds ahead of the other. Phones side-by-side. By the gods, I just couldn't really notice hardly any difference in picture quality. When it came to sound, the 14 Pro Max was better, but not by much.
  • Audio (music). Played Motely Crue, Dr. Feelgood on both. The 14 Pro Max was noticeably better. Very good sound.
That's all for now. I'll update as I go.

I have turned off the AOD myself. I don't get it as a feature. The phone is in my pocket most of the time or I'm using it. Spurious inputs potentially when the screen is on because there's actionable widgets on the screen. It also uses more battery life, etc. I just found it annoying and turned it off.

Seriously, Apple has NOBODY left anymore to just say no to dumb stuff that in the end people end up not using and flops. The TouchBar is a great example. What a damn mess that was. No, don't bother derailing this thread with a bunch of TouchBar worship because you're one in 500,000 Users who actually liked it.

I bought a new case for my iPhone 13 pro Max lol. No reason to give Apple anymore money for nearly the same phone. Planning on waiting for a hopefully groundbreaking iPhone 15 or 16 Ultra Pro Max with a full design change. I will keep my current iPhone until I see a more modern or futuristic design; fingers crossed for a foldable iPhone in the near future.

I think I’m going to return my iPhone 14 Pro Max and cancel my Apple Watch Ultra order too. I might just stick with my S22 Ultra, for the price it’s just not work it.

Battery life seems worse than my 13 Pro Max that I just gave away to a family member. There doesn’t seem to be that much of a difference. The S22 Ultra is a better design in my opinion and it can do more.

I have s22 ultra pretty good 👍 and 13 PM definitely won't cancel my watch having 2 days battery life just amazing.

Canceled my deep purple 13P order (which luckily hadn't shipped yet) after watching the first couple of reviews and confirmed my suspicions. I feel we're honestly at a point where yearly upgrades are vastly wasteful unless you fall into the "latest and greatest" camp. I appreciate the larger wide camera sensor, but unless you're shooting ProRaw at full 48MP, spending a lot of time in Lightroom and pixel peeping it's really marginal for most uses. Otherwise, upgrading for an AOD, brighter screen and the DI seems.....unnecessary. If next year brings a true telephoto lens, USB-C and a useful maturation of all the new software features, then hell yeah.

I am keeping mine (well one of them at least) for me the always on display was a feature I have been after for years from Apple and I would not want to lose that.

I am a little annoyed with Apple though as this is a feature that could have easily been rolled out to the 13 series, maybe the 12 too and but for it I am almost certain I would not have upgraded.

Why are you buying a 11 max refurb?

Would love to see a side by side indoor photo. I found zero difference despite 3 years of hyperbole from Apple, but but maybe that's me..

Last night I finally unboxed my 14 Pro Max after debating whether or not it was a worthwhile move from my 12 Pro. I was mostly concerned that the size would be too large to be practical to carry around.

So glad I made the move. The increased screen real estate is fantastic. The size and weight of the phone is no issue at all for me and is easily pocketable.

As a professional photographer, I was really after the camera upgrade. Initial photos show this to be a far superior camera to the 12 Pro. ProRAW images are astounding. Obviously it doesn't compare to my Nikon Z6ii and professional lenses but as a camera I'll always carry around in my pocket I am seriously impressed.

I thought I'd be swapping it for the 14 Pro, but not a chance now. Delighted with this choice - Deep Purple 14 Pro Max 512GB.

Is there a return fee?
No i initiated it online, factory reset the iPhone and dropped it off at a UPs point (here in the UK), Apple will receive in the next few days and i should get a refund by the end of next week.

Photographer here too: I assume these improvements are in ProRaw, not JPEG (because I see no benefit from 11-14)? How are you finding the workflow of shooting only ProRaw?
