I just now cancelled my order. I was at the Apple Store yesterday and tried the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Currently using a 12. They are so heavy and the camera bumps are absurd. The design is just not great at this point. They’ve seriously lost the plot here.

Wish I could swallow Android but I hate Android. So here I sit, with a 12.
We totally disagree. A few grams additional weight and a bit more camera bump are welcome when they bring camera and overall performance improvements.

Folks who feel like you do should simply stick with lesser smartphones like the 12.

These phones aren't made for people who actually need to carry them around in standard pants. No one in my office uses them (many have the smallest phones possible).

Men cannot fit these phones comfortably in their pants. Women can put them in purses, but I've heard more than a few complain about how uncomfortable they are even to hold! The square edges cut into your hands. It's noticeable, especially because of how heavy they are.

Steve Jobs has definitely left the building. There are evidently lots of bobblehead "yes" people at Apple just picking up paychecks and never saying no to stupid ideas that flow from managers. We've all seen this behavior before.

Damn if you're an adult and find 7.3 grams "so heavy" you might want to consider lifting some weights or doing some pushups.

What bugs me most about the 14 Pro is the awkward camera bump size and holding it. Not so much the weight. I can’t hold it how I normally would.

Edit: Considering going back to 13 regular for this reason. I really like the display brightness outdoors but the ProMotion is not a big deal and the cameras in day to day are not that much different.

That’s a ridiculous comment to make. I’m in decent condition and go to the gym regularly and find the 14 Pro Max and even the Pro slightly uncomfortable to hold for prolonged periods due to weight distribution being uneven (which means I have to compensate for this) and also having to grip the phone in a slightly unnatural way due to the squared edges and dimensions. I was using my burner iPhone 7 for a while before picking up the 14 Pro and Pro Max and it was much more comfortable over extended use but of course I missed the new tech whilst using the 7 so I readily accept having to make a compromise with comfort to be able to use a better camera etc.

What sort of pants do you wear? A 14Pro with a case on it fits just fine in my left front pocket. People who expect the Max, any Max, to fit in a pocket, any pocket, are IMO kidding themselves.

Right. Because Jobs had *nothing* to do with the iP4 with its squared edges. (/sarcasm)

Sorry but that commentary is total nonsense. Do you even own one? The iPhone 14 Pro is essentially the identical size as the iPhone 13 Pro, with a tiny bit deeper camera lens bump (what is it, + one mm?) and fits in my men's pants pocket fine, just like the 13 Pro did. And I carried the 13 Pro every day for a year...

Personally I would gladly double the 14 Pro lens bump for double the lens quality, and it would still fit in my (left front, Levis 501s) pants pocket without issue. The iPhone Pro Max may be hard to fit in pockets, but that is an intentional choice folks make who specifically want such a large size phone.

I had my 13 Pro Max in my trouser suit pocket every day but of course it looked unsightly lol

I have a 11 Pro Max, but I have my new 14 Pro Max still sitting in its box. I'm worried if I transfer to the 14 Pro Max and decide to return, if it will be difficult to reactivate the 11 Pro Max.
11 pro max supports eSim as well, I forgot. So just through the cellular settings on the phone if you haven’t wiped out the old phone yet… you should be able to swap the eSim. Or you could get a physical sim from your carrier.

This is unequivocally false. I’ve been using max and plus size phones from Apple since their inception, and have had no issues carrying them in my front pocket.

That being said, those gentlemen who like to wear skinny jeans, yeah I could see it being an issue. Outside of really tight fitting men’s clothes, it fits just fine in most men’s pants pockets, as they are deep enough.

I’m tempted to return my 14 Pro. Coming from the 12 mini, it’s just too heavy. It’s causing my hands to cramp up far too often, at a certain point, it’s just very uncomfortable to use. Lots of cool features. Other than the camera, I’m not really using it for anything my 12 mini couldn’t do.

Still deciding if I want to return it, then trade my 12 mini in for the 13 mini, or just get a refreshed battery in my 12 mini.

There's a huge difference between "fits just fine" and "comfortable."

A brick "fits just fine" in my back pants pocket. Is it comfortable? Ha.

I always wait for this thread to be made. It provides lots of great reading year over year.
I think it’s a pretty big wakeup call when over 10% of are returning their phones. That’s a very large percentage and if it holds for the populace that’s a ton of lost revenue for Apple as well as the cost of taking a returned item. They don’t get to just flip it and put it back out there they have to test and repackage everything which means shipping, having people interact with with, etc. it’s a huge deal and why most items on Amazon that you return are simply junked or resold as used.

My opinion of course - but I think people attracted to these forums probably have a significantly higher return rate than normal users. People tend to focus on the small annoyances and blow them up into large threads. I've noticed myself that a lot of issues I don't even notice till I read threads here. lol. Of course, once you see it, you can never un-see it.

I focus on trying to enjoy what I have now knowing that not everything is perfect.

I was on the Apple Upgrade Plan up till the 12 Pro Max. Now, I'm either getting older, bank account not as full as it should be, or I'm realizing that keeping my phone 2 years+ results in me looking forward to the next phone with a lot more anticipation/enjoyment vs upgrading every year. To those who upgrade every year, great! :D Me? I'm back to a 2+ year upgrade cycle.

My 13 Pro Max is having the BEST battery life I've ever seen on iOS 16. My wife got the 14 Pro Max and she's enjoying the camera. She does a lot of hiking in areas without reception so the satellite emergency will be useful too.

‘The 13 ProMax was one of the best selling phones, ever, for Apple so there are many who do not agree with you. The 14 ProMax is the same with a little bit larger camera area. I suspect it will also sell very well.
Depends how many people were coming from older models where they didn’t have much of a choi

The Pro Max was the second worst selling model with the mini being the worst.

Where is this metric coming from? Internet forums are not representative of global sales and returns.
How many people need to be polled for you to consider it valid? The metric is coming strait from the top of the page. I never said it was representative of global sales and returns. But it’s a higher number than previous polls and that’s a data point.

Apple's marketing of the iPhone 6, its last sensible phone, touted thinness and comfort: "iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are engineered to be the thinnest ever, delivering a bigger display in a design that is still comfortable to hold and easy to use."

Haven't heard much about thin and comfortable lately, have we?

As someone upthread said, Apple has indeed lost the plot.
