I'm thinking that if 10.3 doesn't go into beta today its probably going to be a few weeks. From what I've heard 10.3 does a lot with iPad, so they may want to keep 10.3 internal until it gets closer to the new iPad release.

where have you heard that?

A little tipster ;)
Sonny Dickson? lol

It makes me wonder if Theatre Mode (if real) could be an iPad feature designed specially for the latest (and yet to come) iPads. People have speculated that it could be a mode for viewing video on the device.

It could
- disable night shift
- disable true tone
- enable DND
- configure 4 speakers for virtual surround sound?
- optimally configure screen for viewing movies?
- enable an HDR/10bit mode on new iPads with HDR panels?

Who knows, but saying 10.3 is iPad focused made me think about Theatre Mode again. Some of the above could apply to iPhone too but not as much, at least not yet.

Great post, makes a heck lot of sense!

I too am hopefull for a 10.2.1 release tonight hoping that it will solve a bluetooth problem that i have with my car!
:(

Same, I don't think Apple often releases beta on a Wednesday.
The beta release cycle has been wonky enough with iOS 10 that it's hard to predict. We've seen betas release back to back pretty much. During the 10.0 beta we had one of the longest breaks between releases we've seen.

So, it's possible. We could see 10.2.1 release today and 10.3b1 tomorrow. Or both today. Or neither.

I feel like I'm in Vegas putting chips on black and a number.

What do you mean by this? I agree with everything else you are stating, but I'm very curious about the bolded.

Between beta 1 and beta 2 was like almost a month.

It was three weeks. Hardly 'rare'. Before iOS 9, X.0 builds were pretty much always seeded at 3 weeks. As the beta grew more mature, then it became 2 week builds. This two week -> one week is new.

Why does it have to be either today but if not after a few weeks? And yes, it might be Ipad focused but it's a .x update so it must stay in beta for several weeks so it it possible that they release the beta in the next few days.

Huh, it was only 22 days. Boy, that felt longer.

That said, it was still one the longest for a .0 release. (.x b1 to b2 had a few 25 and 29 day periods)

Judging by the volume of the online "screaming" at the time, it was a LOOONG break!

I think nothing today and tomorrow something as would have been a week since beta 4

I think this is a pretty good bet.
I think it's definitely safe to say out, or new beta, by next week. This week would be nice, but I'm not so confident.
[doublepost=1484755397][/doublepost]When we were waiting for iOS 10 beta 2 I worked out the beta release days of week for iOS 8 and 9 (see below). I don't know how much this applies to final releases, but it showed a clear tendency for Apple to prefer the start of the week. That's why I'm not so confident 10.2.1 will come out this week.

Monday = 22
Tuesday = 12
Wednesday = 8
Thursday = 4
Friday = 0
Saturday = 0
Sunday = 0

We have definitely gotten a few Thursdays/Fridays with iOS 10 thus far. So that might be a good sign. There is hope!

But they have tended to be security or "emergency" updates. That said, the fact that we had a US holiday on Monday and a security update for MacOS yesterday (which, as I noted then, probably would be a "clear the decks" sort of thing), I'd say a release of one or the other (or both) 10.2.1 and 10.3 beta is not totally out of the question. I'd say the later in the week we go, the less likely we'll see 10.3 (for support reasons).
