I have a suggestion. Create a section for "Current phone is jailbroken with x, how do I update?" I used blackra1n on 3.1.2 (then the app that fakes everything to think it's 3.1.3 since all they did was disable the hack) and don't see much info on what to do if your current phone used blackra1n. I can wait a couple days for everything to settle down but listing upgrade paths, while being rather complicated, would be of great help to people.

It's not time for that yet. That will come when there are actual jailbreaks out there. I'll update with info as it becomes available.

Sorry to be ignorant here.

I have a jailbroken iPhone under current OS

I just upgraded iTunes to 9.2

Can I jailbreak iOS4?

If so, is there a direct link to the software I need?

Also, will MYWI be preserved with the new jailbreak
or will I have to repurchase it?

Thanks

please start with the top of the thread and read it. IOS4 has only been live for 40 minutes. just wait a little while!

labman,

So I will take that as a NO.

I realize it has only been live for 40 minutes but it
has been available to developers longer than that
and certain it fell into the right hands. ;)

Hi guys wondering if anyone can shed any light on this.

I had a jailbroken 3gs 3.1.3 and used sprint to do it.

i just went to update to ios4, it downloaded fine and it went to install. all was going ok until an unknown error occurred. Fair enough i thought, all il need to do is restore it, so i tried this but it wasnt letting me as it said an uknown error had occurred whilst trying to restore. now its stuck on restore mode and i cant do anything with it.

Any help guys?

Thanks
J

Force reboot and hold down home button to put into recovery mode while plugged into iTunes. If not, put into DFU mode and try to restore. If that fails, repeat on a different usb port.

So, is it looking like the jailbreak will work on any version of iOS? eg if I update to 4.0 now, will the jailbreak when it comes out work? (3GS here)

Or is it likely that an exploit is required that exists in the 3.1.x version but not in the 4.0 version? I know it's quite soon, but considering how similar the GM and 4.0 are, I doubt there's much change in this regard. Is it safe to update if you don't mind being non-jailbroken until the jailbreak comes out?

Depends on the baseband

I have a 3G with 3.1.3 that I jailbroke with Spirit. Do I need to restore first and then update to iOS4? I can wait for a jailbreak for now, but I do want to update to iOS4.

Tried forced reboot, and restore in recovery mode and it didnt work.
Tried putting it into DFU mode and restore and the same error message came up.
and i also tried it in a different USB port, with the same results. :(

Its not looking good. Also i never restored before trying to upgrade i just done it when the phone was still jailbroken as i thought it would be ok as i seem to rememeber upgrading when i it had been jailbroken before.

Any more ideas guys?

Sorry to be a pain

Cheers
J

Seriously? Did you even consider to read the thread?

Jailbreak?
Don't Update if you got a Jailbroken iPhone using Spirit, comex the developer of untethered Spirit Jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad has tweeted advicing people not to Update to iTunes 9.2 (This means not to update iOS 4) if you already have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch.
DO NOT UPDATE TO ITUNES 9.2 IF YOU ARE USING SPIRIT until I learn what's going on.
But Don't forget that Dev Team will release Redsn0w 0.9.5 final version to Jailbreak iOS 4 tomorrow when it got released by Apple so I advice you not to update till they Release Redsn0w, You can stay tuned on Twitter or on Facebook.

Can't wait....

to make a donation to the Dev Team for a 4.0 jailbreak.
Probably won't be long now.

Ka-ching! And they deserve it.

I am wanting to do the same thing.

I have a 3GS with 3.1.3 that I jailbroke with Spirit, I want to update to the new IOS4....I DON'T care about a jailbreak right now for iOS 4.

I have the following questions:

1 . Can you restore to the backup you made prior to the Spirit Jailbreak or do you have to do a full factory restore (erasing all your songs settings etc.)?

2. Can you do the restore (to pre-jailbreak backup or factory) if you have updated your itunes to 9.2?

Depends on the baseband
Jailbreaking has nothing to do with the baseband.

If your iPhone is already jailbroken, why would you do it again? Spirit is the only JB tool that doesn't work with iTunes 9.2. Wait for a Dev Team release.

Restore first, just for safe measure. It's a good idea to "Set up as a new phone" when iTunes asks you. That way you are completely starting over, and nothing residual from your jailbreak will carry over to stock 4.0.

Thanks for the help benflick. I will go ahead and restore and then upgrade. I'm glad my app downloads are tied to my iTunes account so I shouldn't have a problem re-installing them after I update.

Excellent post guys as usual. Thanks for helping to keep the community in here str8! :D

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for the love of God people, don't hit that update button till you know it is cool to do so. :p
