Everything is the same.
The GM build is the same as what was released today.
I haven't found any differences between them.
Build number and firmware version are identical.

to make a donation to the Dev Team for a 4.0 jailbreak.
Probably won't be long now.

Ka-ching! And they deserve it.

Dev-team never has and never will take a donation! there is info on there blog if you want to send the, a post card saying thanks. also I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you made a donation to a good charity. you could Twitter Musclenerd I'm sure he would tell you some he likes. they do it for fun the challenge and love of jb/ul. Guys I would not Update to 4.0 until we hear from the Dev-Team!

Tried forced reboot, and restore in recovery mode and it didnt work.
Tried putting it into DFU mode and restore and the same error message came up.
and i also tried it in a different USB port, with the same results. :(

Its not looking good. Also i never restored before trying to upgrade i just done it when the phone was still jailbroken as i thought it would be ok as i seem to rememeber upgrading when i it had been jailbroken before.

Any more ideas guys?

Sorry to be a pain

Cheers
J

WOW, not good news. Try to backup your itunes library, delete and install iTunes 9.1.1:

http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php

One installed try to restore to 3.1.3 then upgrade itunes, overwrite your itunes library with the backup and stock 3.1.3 on the phone. Then you should be fine to go for 4.0

Or, If you have another computer try installing iTunes 9.1.1 and restore 3.1.3 from that computer.

Sounds like the problem is in iTunes 9.2 Let us know the results.

Awesome I guess a unlock for 3G and 3GS is imminent!! :)

Hi!

I'm planning to sell my iPhone 3G which has a 3.1.3. I want to sell it unlock to increase its value.

Should I hold off the upgrade to iOS4 and wait for the 3.1.3 unlock or go ahead and upgrade and wait for the iOS4 unlock? Which one is planned to happen first?

Jailbreaking has nothing to do with the baseband.

If your iPhone is already jailbroken, why would you do it again? Spirit is the only JB tool that doesn't work with iTunes 9.2. Wait for a Dev Team release.

well i meant that i have itunes 9.2 and would like to JB the ios 4 , so is there a way i can do that, or should i still wait for an ios 4 JB from somone.

3.1.2 (jb) to 4.0

Had same problem and followed your advice. Here are the results:

Grabbed my PC laptop which had iTunes 9.0, it prompted me to update to 3.1.3 (phew) which it was able to do, no problems. Back to my macbook which already had iTunes 9.2 installed (i know, i know...) and from there, successfully updated to 4.0.

Thank you for the advice!!!

For the moment, i'm running on FW 3.1.2 with my iPhone 3G.

I've downloaded the iOS4.0 ISPW file and i've installed iTunes 9.2.

Can somebody tell me in steps what I need to do to upgrade to iOS4.0 WITH an unlock and jailbrake?

Thanks in advance.

Same situation for me. I plan to sell mine, so should I wait until I plan to sell it and:

Delete all info (through settings)
restore and update as new to 4.0
then jailbreak/unlock

Or is there a different order I should go by?

Great to know this solved your problem. What caused the problem in the first place? Trying to update / restore or trying to jailbreak?

yeah man i am having the same conundrum. does anyone have a good solution? my guess is to wait for ios 4 JB and then sell it.

I had simply tried to update from my jailbroken 3.1.2 to 4.0. It went through the process as normal until the actual installing of 4.0 on my iPhone. It erred out saying there was a problem with the install and I would have to Restore.

At that point, even though it showed to be installing, the progress bar on my iPhone never moved - for over 35 minutes. I tried to force restore to 3.1.2 but iTunes said it wasn't authorized to upgrade to that version.

I wasn't worried about losing my jailbreak. I only used it for tethering. Plus, I had confidence that 4.0 would be jailbroken quickly - guess i was right! ^_^ And i really want to use the new iBook store app.

Interesting. Wonder why you had a problem. Others reported no problems upgrading to 4.0 with your same setup. One of those iPhone phenomenons.

Ok, from what I have read, I should go ahead and:

update to 4.0 (and backup in preperation for new phone)
Get new phone on July 2-8
delete all settings/content
activate as new, jailbreak/unlock
profit!

Anybody see a problem with this?

I have a 3g as stated in my earlier post. Does that make it ok?

And I am trying to learn all of the ins and outs so that I can read the blog and other sources but it is taking time to learn all of this.

I did read that we should not update to 4.0 yet, but I have also read that we should be able to soon.

I have a 3GS jailbroken with spirit and currently have itunes 9.2 installed. I am trying to update to the new iOS4.

I know I can't directly update to iOS4 with the jailbreak so I am trying to restore to a previous backup, however when I connect to itunes, and choose "Restore" a window pops up that says "Restore and Update".

I would prefer to ONLY restore to the pre-jailbreak backup I made a few months ago just to be safe but it isn't giving me the option to manually choose my backup, onle the "Restore and Update" option.

Has anyone with a jailbroken 3.1.3 phone with itunes 9.2 done the "restore and update" option with success?

I just want the new iOS and don't care about the jailbreak as I don't have any JB apps I need.

i have a JB 3gs on 3.0.1 with the old 04.28.xx baseband

to unlock it now can I just download ultrasn0w from the cydia repo and install it?

also newbie question: i'm on ATT so i don't NEED the unlock.. if i unlock it, will i still be able to use my ATT phone as I always do, or does the unlock make it so you HAVE to use a different sim card?

thanks everyone
