Downloaded both Crystal and Purify. Both seem to work fine. Pages seem slightly faster when loading with Purify, but maybe there is something else causing that.

Purify has fewer mentions here, I see. No doubt due to the price.

Crystal needs a whitelist.

If you go to yahoo homepage with crystal some pictures of the news story don't show , makes you wonder what else you miss without knowing
I'm using purify and have no complaints
One thing that worries me is I wish the app had the feedback thing in the app like crystal
To tell the purify developer if a site is not working right
But I haven't run into any problems with purify and the pictures in yahoo homepage are shown with purify

I wonder how much money a developer makes with such an app, even if it costs just one Euro. Must be millions over millions basically over night.

Using the free version of 1Blocker. Works well. Doesn't get rid of all whitespace though.

So I'm running BlockParty (compiled under XCode) on a iPhone 5. The developer, Krishna Kumar, is very responsive and walked me through the process of compiling it.

It works very well, blocking ads on all the pages mentioned in this thread. I don't have benchmarks but I don't perceive any lag when it's enabled. Makes me very curious as to why Apple is restricting content blockers to 64 bit machines.
Coming a large set of rules on a 32-bit CPU can take 10-15 seconds of full CPU which some may argue is to the detriment of your device/battery.

Using the free version of 1Blocker. Works well. Doesn't get rid of all whitespace though.
White space is usually down to the design of the site. When you build a page with an ad in, you can set aside the amount of space it needs exactly: width X height. This will become white space when the ad is removed.

Or you can put the ad in and just let the page around it adapt. When the ad is removed the page goes back to normal.

Which approach depends on the web site and the person who built it.

Has anybody else got the problem that the 'enable' slider for the content blocker is gray?

I've just bought Peace (the adblocker by Marco Arment) and installed Crystal to try both. Sadly though, both are greyed-out... so I can enable them under Safary > Content blockers.

Does anybody have a tip to fix this?

You can install BlockParty at a 32Bit device. Or any other open source Adblocker.

https://medium.com/@searls/installing-a-content-blocker-on-ios-9-public-beta-a25b2b83848f

It works for me on iPad and iOS 9.

Ok, way more detailed than my guide for macrumors a few weeks ago. I can't get it to work on a 4S. It looks like Apple completely removed the functionality with the last PB and didn't bring it back with the GM/final. I can install the App, but i can't enable it in Settings. Still working fine on a 5S/rMini2. I have the suspicion that even with the xcode sideloading 32bit A5 devices are out. Which iPad model do you have?

Still curious why Apple is restricting content blockers to 64bit machines.

Performance. Apple is pretty clear about these things: if a technology can benefit from specific hardware then they are not willing to compromise performance on devices without that hardware. It’s the same thing with encrypted media extensions in Safari 8 (for Netflix). Even though they could technically make these available to devices without GPUs that have specific hardware acceleration for this, they don’t do it, because it’s a waste of development resources and not something that will benefit more customers over time (as the devices are old and declining in user numbers). Content blockers apparently utilise the 64-bit processors and these are the processors Apple is using in those devices that it has been shipping for two years and will be shipping for the years to come.

I have Peace, Crystal and Blockr. I'm leaning towards Peace as the better of the three, with Blockr a very close second. Going back and forth. I absolutely love that Safari now has content blocking!

Crystal works great + free. I'd like to see if one of these blocks those "install our app" pop ins when I go to a website. Which one does this?

Also, how many content blockers can you use?

I have been testing Crystal for the last few days and its been superb there are no options but it does what it says you can see the differnce in speed while out and about

It def does what it says & does it well. Although for some reason, I thought that it blocked YouTube ads as well

Crystal was free when I got it and it works awesome. I wish it had some tweaks of functionality, but for now, free wins for me.

If one of the other ones, such as Purify, turns out to be super-super, and went on sale, then I might consider buying it.

But not a moment before.

I assume you have an older device that does not have a 64bit CPU.
