Another thing I've been meaning to ask: does Purify block embedded tweets by design? For instance, several articles on the MacRumors home page have embedded tweets, but with Purify enabled, all I see is the text from the tweet with the Twitter interface removed. Any way around this?

Thanks again for all of your hard work and dedication. :)

Note: Purify 1.1 also introduces seamless iCloud sync of preferences and whitelist.
Firstly, thanks for being active here. It's much appreciated.

A couple of suggestions for Purify. 1. Make separate toggles for social media and comments. 2. Make the whitelist function configurable. Example: Options under whitelist per site for allowing or denying a combination of images, scripts and ads.

Thanks!

Sort of. Here goes the explanation:

Purify has "Ads and Tracking" blocking enabled by default. The issue is, Twitter's widget/embed JavaScript is served directly from Twitter, making it an easy exposure point for tracking.

I'm investigating a reasonable way to give users a choice about this.

Makes sense. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some option or workaround. Thanks!

Since your here Kat.cr still goes crazy sometimes with ads , I reported the site just now
When I click on a link on Kat it wants to take me to another site , you see the ad blocker trying to fight it but the ad wins sometimes

Have seen Adblock fast mentioned as a good free blocker so I thought I would give it a try. Have to agree that it seems pretty fast. Switched back to purify and tried a few pages and it also seemed fast. Out of the maybe 5 websites I checked Adblock fast did not catch the ads on stereogum.com. Purify was able to block the ads on this site. The other sites were the same on both blockers. Not scientific by any means, but just a quick comparison.

All blockers at this point are in their infancy and still getting fine tuned. One that doesn't work as well now will surely only get better. One that seems pretty solid right now my be too strict in what it allows through. I'm just keeping my eye on this thread to keep up to date with anything new. I have to say content blocking in iOS 9 has started quite a conversation.

My wish which is probably not possible in iOS 9 is to have OS level content blocking instead of just in safari. Would love to see a clean Facebook page of just posts from people I know.

Ack and it seems to already have been handled by the new backend. Thanks for submitting the report!

Are you affiliated with said app? Your post reads like a solicitation.
lol no, I tested all of these content blockers and bought most of them. right now I'm just using ABP. and am sure everybody will eventually do that. the whole idea of paying for a content blocker is nonsense.

I don't think paying for an ad-blocker is "nonsense," especially if the app is updated regularly and the developer(s) are proactive and responsive to customer concerns and questions.

I don't mind paying for a quality product.

And this is one of the reasons I will gladly pay for an app. :)
Exactly. Developers have to put food on the table like the rest of us. If they work hard to build a quality app that is backed up by quality customer service, I will gladly help bring income to their house by buying the app, helping to spread the word to others, and beta testing.

I am new to ad blocking on iOS but have just bought Purify, mainly due to the developer's willingness to participate in this thread. However, why am I still seeing the large Amazon ad just after the last post on a page on this site?

Hi! Sounds like Purify isn't properly enabled in Safari. Troubleshooting steps:
  • Have you enabled Purify in Safari's Settings? If not, check out the tutorial in-app — it walks you through it.
  • Is "Ads and Tracking" blocking enabled in Purify?
Let me know what you find out!
