I don’t know why they got rid of hangouts. It did the job.

Many factors, some telecommunication regulations, too many same product / service with diff segment, unable to standarized their app to so many phones with diff brand, etc

Now they are trying to merge the hangout user to google chat, which initially should be for their workspace users. And who know what will it becomes later on.

Same with youtube red, youtube tv ? I don’t even keep track of what they call nowadays.

My apologies. Yeah, you can use Alias. But the reason why it's lacking or late to add features. Because iMessage is tied to the OS whereas WhatsApp is a standalone app, which makes it easier for features to be added at a quicker pace.

Nah, i don’t think so, in my opinion, previously, they didn’t pay much attention to the messaging app, which they have previlage to do that because of their ios exclusivity. Android progress significantly, their. Messaging app also evolve. Then apple start to pay attentention, put some gimmick such as sticker animoji etc during some certain period where kakao/line/whatsapp has sticker thingy, and so on

On the other hand, since this is their closed OS, they have full control of what to do with ios. If the reason is to not launch something not yet mature, ok it’s kinda make sense. But the quest is why late ? Anyway, i’m blabbering. Just ignore me :)

I am so frustrated with Google over this Google Play Music fiasco. I understand, Google wanted to attach their music service name under YouTube since it’s such a popular brand as far as entertainment goes.

But YouTube Music is garbage. I have the service for FREE under Youtube Premium and I don’t even use it. The UI is lacking and there’s no SlideOver/SplitView for the iPad. I would like get rid of Apple Music in favor of YT Music, but it’s terrible.

Music discovery is garbage and this video/music combination isn’t needed at all. I seen comment where YT recommendation sometimes comes from YT Music and that should not happen at all. I even prefer the Apple Music UI on Android over YT Music. And, that is ridiculous. I really wish Google didn’t remove GPM, it was really a good app and the service wasn’t too bad.

I woke up missing AOD showing me the weather from the lock screen, since moving to iphone I haven't been able to set it up properly.

Gotta say considering going back and stop procrastinating. I spent 1k on the 11 pro in August (256) gig so it's a big step down going back and spending another 1k on a Note 20 Ultra or something similar.

Messy right ? Hahaha
I can’t identify, which is the official mv or music, which is the user uploaded. So confusing. And who knows, someday they will merge the google movie (rent/purchase) to utube as well, following appletv+, which now apple also start to merge their services to apple one bundle

This is the beauty of iMessage, where there’s no added step. Once iMessage is turned on... you automatically are able to iMessage anyone without the need to add or invite.
Can you switch this off ? as it seems to me for the more security minded, less scrupulous users can use this to associate you with Apple products and all the marketing data that goes with that. Whatapp and others are not device specific so less possible targeting in this respect.

I also seem to remember there was far more file restrictions on attachments with IMessage

Does Imessage have single group chat but multiple photo albums that can be viewed ?

It's an interesting view, but one that is echoed for many I know. I would say 8/10 people I have known over the years that have moved from an Android phone to an iPhone went back to Android. Less than 1/2 that went the other way moved back to iPhone.

I feel your pain. I had been a subscriber of GPM since its rollout. I loved how I could upload my entire music library and found its recommendations to be pretty good.

I’m still a subscriber as I pay for YouTube Premium but I never use it.... ever.

I’ve found myself using fewer and fewer of Google’s products and services. They deprecate so many things that I just can’t trust them to invest my time any more.

Of course... iMessage can be turned off. I believe @Shanghaichica and @Aneres11 turns their iMessage off in favor of WhatsApp. But anyone will get marketing data with any product thats purchased or signed up for. Whether it’s Apple, Google or Samsung. And WhatsApp is under the umbrella of FaceBook, no telling what FaceBook can do with it’s data.

I’m not following. Do you mean as far as the transfer size limitation? If so... I’m not sure exactly what it is. I know I never have any problems sending files.. but if I’m sending a large file, I tend to use a link to Dropbox or GoogleDrive.
Does Imessage have single group chat but multiple photo albums that can be viewed ?
Well, it’s not exactly a photo album. During a group thread... there’s an info tab where you can get location of the group (if one agreed to share location), links and photos shared.

iMessage is encrypted so in terms of security I would put it above WhatsApp. Especially with WhatsApp's parent company being Facebook.

This is not about turning Imessage off it's the very thing you said makes it easier also makes it easier for you to be specifically associated for marketing, Whatsapp and other are not OEM specific so cross referencing and association is one step removed, so better

Nothing to do with file size it's file types ie the .xxx after file name, think you will find Imessage has lots of restrictions

The multiple photo albums in a group chat is a very useful tool, we use it daily to categories progress photo's of various builds

Aesthetics is trivial consideration over functionality and cross platform use IMO

I had dinner last night with an executive of a major carrier and posed this question to him.

He said they had looked in to this as it would be rather silly of a carrier to be using a lesser encryption etc for employees and was going to pull the app.

Their international security experts noted that WhatsApp is second to none so they continue to use WhatsApp.

What file restrictions are you referring to? I believe your issue is with opening up within iMessage... And yes, there’s probably limitation on that. But there’s ways to combat that... With saving it under Files App, that way you can open it up within a 3rd party app.

Idk... I’ll choose aesthetics over cross-platform, that’s just me. But in terms of functionality... not entirely sure how that applies to iMessage. But if you are referring to file restriction, then yeah.. that makes sense. But as I’ve said... There’s ways to open up files.

After all I spent on the 11 Pro Max, I bought a used LG V60. That's the thing I love and hate about Android. I can easily upgrade them more often if I go used but selling them is pretty much pointless.

I couldn't buy new anymore. It just feels like a rip off seeing the prices after 3-6 months on Swappa.

That interesting. A quick Google will show lots of articles on WhatsApp security issues in the past couple of years.

I'd rather go by straight from the horses mouth so to speak :) than speculation, gossip and hearsay from Google searches

Both using end to end encryption, the diff is apple hold the key at their icloud backup, that means, they can view the message if they want to, even though they said they won’t allowed anyone to get the data, as some cases with police investigation few years back, still not allowed by apple).

Whatsapp use same security, but they don’t keep the message, in this term, is more secure in some senses. But ..... they shared user data to fb ...

For me, since I’m not multibillionaire with world secret, don’t really care ...

He meant limitation to send file apart from photo, vid, document. For example exe file, apk file, dmg file, mp3, m4b, etc etc. Can iMessage do that ? Never try it since I don’t habe friends using iMessage hahaha

About iMes’ photo album/tab, do u mean, if i have 3 chat group, then all pictures sent from those groups combined to 1 album/viewer ? Or they seperated based for each group ?

You can send just about anything just as I've previously said, the issue is opening up within iMessage.

Let's make sure we are both clear. 3 chat groups.. it's similar to 3 different chat threads, therefore in one particular chat thread... photos are combined in one album/view.

Thats fine. To each their own. I will always be concerned with security and privacy with anything Facebook touches. Facebook arent a social networking company, they're a data collection company. Why do you think they bought WhatsApp?

Oh look, right on cue...

WhatsApp gives users an ultimatum: Share data with Facebook or stop using the app | Ars Technica

Also, I didnt realize WhatsApp add end-to-end encryption a while back.

very handy seeing everything on the lockscreen, especially weather when it's cold and you been home for a while.

Apple was better before they integrated Darksky into IOS, when it was a stand alone app it was more useful.

Let me say that I do not use WhatsApp...I do have a FB account but it is just to share and connect with old friends from high school.

I don't mind FB collecting my anonymized data or using it to sell me ads. It is the price for using their apps....and I get that.

To me it is not any different than using Google apps and services knowing they are collecting data on me as well.

I think we are living in a world where we no longer have an expectation of digital anonymity

Eh, its different. Google are taking your data and using it to tailor ads and to sell to companies to see what consumers want.

Facebook on the other hand are trying to manipulate the data to alter your feelings, whether you receive factual news or ********, and do anything to keep you viewing their site longer. They essentially build a simulated version of each user and themore data they get from you the more they tweak your character. Its creepy.
