No one's claiming Apple is not at any fault, but rather that any of us end users can avoid these pitfalls by simply exhibiting a little patience.

i have no problem with patience. but, there are people here clearly stating that its your own fault for trying to update your device, and apple has nothing to do with it.

Update: Same

I have begun to receive the 3014 but I have used different routers and gone to different neighbor's houses (They all have different Internet providers) with no avail. This is definitely something on Apple's end.

4 steps not fail to make icloud working :
1 update osx to 10.7.2 takes 10 to 15 min and reboot
2 in iphone, ipod and ipad remove apps : remote, keynote, pages, numbers, imovie
3 sync to backup (without upgrading to os5) and upgrade all apps in itines 1st
4 after sync remove usb from mac and reconnect and start upgrade to os5

I tried on iphone 4 and 3gs and ipad 1 followed those steps and is working fine for all 3

IOS 5 Success

Couple of notes: The Apple Servers are very busy. MAC OS X upgrade, iTunes Upgrade, and iOS upgrades all at the same time. Make sure you get the non-iOS hardware upgraded first...

After about an hour, I got everything update including iPhone and iPad...

After several attempts to back up and restore, including restarting my computer it finally worked and I am good to go:D

However, it appears, I have to reload my apps (ie. banking, credit cards, etc, mobile apps)
Assuming that you followed the regular upgrade procedure, the apps, music, videos, etc., etc., would have been restored had you left the iPhone connected to iTunes. After upgrading, the iPhone would have rebooted and been "usable" at that point. If you leave the iPhone connected to iTunes, iTunes will detect the upgraded iPhone and then restore everything else. However, if you disconnect the iPhone at that point, you're not going to get everything restored.

I had the iPhone bricking it.
You need to power it off, then connect it to iTunes and the only option you have is to restore.

I'm just finishing my restore just now...

Incidentally, after my restore it appears to have upgraded iOS.

edit: yes, it upgraded the iOS

After many failed attempts to update, my phone wont even register in iTunes anymore. I have unplugged, pressed all the button, I just keep getting that rotating circle. Any suggestions?

It took a Bit

It took many tries. Wouldn't dare count them yet, it worked so smooth on the last time. I had the airport on when it worked. Patience was never a strong point of mine.

I feel all the posts gave me patience.

Have a great one and enjoy!

right, finally got it to restore and update from the back-up.

Still came up with an error message though 'An error occured restoring this iphone (-35)' and I have no apps, music, videos or pictures.

I thought the music, videos and Apps Would have been restored with the back-up???

so my iPhone was going through backup and then error. It now has to be restored to factory settings then the update. it is un usable until I do that.

is it now just a waiting game and trying game till I can get the update? it will happen in the new day or so right?

Yeah, I have this too now... PFFF, should have upgraded my wife's iP4 with the GM before...

Well now im really not sure. Was getting the 3004 & 3014 errors and it finaly looked like it was going to work then bam... 3014 error again/ THis time it restarted my iphone into recovery mode and fails when restoring it...

I have tried about 20 times to restore it but it keeps failing...

dont ask me why but i thought a fresh install of Itunes might help... so going through some convoluted process to delete it... i re installed it and now i cannot connect to try and restore again :-(
edit - tells me it cannot connect or update server

iPhone 3GS + iOS 4.3.5 + iTunes 10.5 + Mac OS X 10.7.2

There was no problem with my iPad 2.

However in case of iPhone, I had tried more than 5 times.

After a few hours, I was suggested to turn on FIREWALL.

It really WORKS!

My iPhone is been updating.

I have had the same error on my iphone4. I have re-set several times, cannot restore etc. Will try again tomorrow when servers are going to be less busy. On the plus side my iPad2 updated straight away, although it has taken an age to restore the apps etc.
