That’s crazy, we have an iPhone and we need to pay to unlock features? Damn what’s next? The camera app will need a subscription?
This is crazy and I don’t understand why Apple cannot add some buttons while there is many who are making a full app !

Apple isn't designing their phones with you in mind. They want things to feel intuitive to the majority of users. Adding too many options stands to confuse a lot of people. I think a lot of people are already there. It is what it is.
Well every other phones have the feature and every camera has it even if it's pro or not... Why not this extra button or make an app if you don't wanna confuse users...
Or make a Pro mode button like the others that show the controls idk something to not confuse normal users)

I like the idea of Halide and these camera apps in concept... so much so I paid for it and deleted it within a week. All it did was reinforce my habit of always having a small mirrorless camera if not my full camera kit with me. I just find touch screen controls for full manual shooting on a smartphone to impossibly tedious.
You should not have spent money on a drone or action camera. A good DSLR is much more practical and you can use it in a wider variety of circumstances. If there are features that the Apple camera app doesn’t offer, but those features are available in other apps, why not just buy the other app? That’s what most people would do.
Like I said, those can take pictures that the iPhone or a normal camera can’t… and I won’t buy a camera to get more controls, I talked to people who use cameras and they said that I don’t really need one because there won’t be a big difference and it might be true…
Tho the controllers could help in some cases… But I don’t wanna spend more even if I can… Most people might do this but I won’t because this feels waste of money for me and if I buy well apple is happy too because they get money back and will never make an app or add the controls

Get a lower quality 3rd party camera app. Those have manual controls and are free
Well, you can do whatever you want. The great thing about sharing ideas here is that you get the help and advice of others. Hopefully that will help make informed decisions.
The vast, vast majority of users do not know what either of these controls are and would be confused by them if they were in the interface.
I've never understood why people care so much about camera quality in cell phones. They make actual cameras for a reason. They are better from an ergonomic/use point of view, as well as output quality.

That's why a pro button should be there ! Or make a separate app like Final Cut cam
None will offer a shutter speed at longer than 1s for free unless it has ads or you cannot control other things.
Making an Apple branded app that has to be downloaded is a good idea. But that still doesn't seem like something they would do.

If your iPhone is your only camera, what’s wrong with wanting improved camera quality?
Even if you have the best camera money can buy, wouldn’t it seem natural to want the best photo you can get from the iPhone when that superb camera is back at your hotel?
When I compare photos from early iPhones to photos from newer iPhones the difference is striking.
Surely you can’t be advocating “good enough”.

But the key is that "just points and shoots" can capture fine imagery on iPhone Pros using just a tiny bit of sound [easy] photographic technique:
• Set to RAW
• Hold the iPhone camera still
• Pay attention to lighting
The phone cameras definitely did kill the compact camera market; quickly. And FYI DSLRs are effectively dead/dying; your Canon R5 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens digital camera, not a DSLR. DSLRs are still used by many photogs [including me] and a few new DSLRs are still being made; but Nikon, for instance, now sells 10x as many mirrorless cameras as they do DSLRs.

I am advocating for "good enough" in the sense of "recognizing the limitations of the device." I don't expect my car to be able to tow as much as a Mack truck. I don't expect my laptop to be as powerful as a mainframe. I don't expect McDonald's to make food as good as I can get from a five-star restaurant.
Cell phone cameras are perfectly fine for taking pictures of damage from car accidents, or items that I am selling on Ebay, and have been for years now. If I am trying to make art or preserve memories for future generations, I will always use a real camera for that. My understanding is (the laws of physics being what they are) that it is basically impossible to make a quality camera and lens that is the size of a cell phone, anyway, and that they all end up using "computational photography" tricks to make decent-ish-looking pictures. I have zero interest in paying more for a phone with a marginally better camera function that still doesn't even match the picture quality or ergonomics of an actual camera.
Yeah, this is awful. A 1000$ phone + 100$ Halide or pack of similar apps, tho there are workarounds.
I can suggest you a smart duo: Camac + RAW Power. Camac can be used for free with only limit of only 1 picture per 30 seconds, but it costs way less than Halide (20$ or smth) and can shoot stacked/HDR RAW pictures, so no blown out sky like in regular RAW photos.
RAW Power is for editing these RAW shots. Imo best RAW editor on whole AppStore, costs around 14 or 15$. You can save thousands presets, not to waste time editing similar RAW files again and again.
While this combo can work out, it is still much more time consuming than just clicking shutter in Apple’s Camera app.
Also about ISO and exposure, while you can definitely play with those, Apple’s cameras are pretty limited and won’t let you choose larger than 1s exposure times (for interesting night shots), unless you use computational night mode.
Very good mention by @winxmac – ProShot. It has actual P S M A modes like on real cameras.
But again, due to hardware limitations (janky higher ISO performance) you won’t be able to play much with fast or slow shutter speed times without getting artifacting. As well as iPhone still doesn’t offer Bayer RAW preview API, so in every 3rd party app you get “computized” preview image and unable to live control shutter and ISO, you won’t see any difference or even if you will - resulting image often comes over or underexposed to the point of no possibility to recover.
Developers unfortunately didn’t think about regional pricing strategies. In some European countries for example 70$ which Halide is asking can get whole fridge of food, a fine restaurant dine with a glass of good wine or more than 2 kilograms of coffee, thats a lot of espressos.
They either need to decrease price globally or build a better sales strategy around the globe.

Actually, after going to pro camera from iPhone, one wouldn’t wanna look at iPhone photos anymore. Especially after they ruined everything with trashy computations.
Can’t wait for RX100 VIII announcement with USB-C and new features. I really hope they release it this year. Hopefully there is resurgence of point-and-shoots and we will probably see new models from all manufacturers
I think (or more like hope) 1’ sensor compacts will stay for a while.
They offer significant advancements over any iPhone, such as big zoom range and no digital zoom madness, pro controls, adequate processing, much higher quality. Pro photographers are gonna be rediscovering them and old digicams have become a trend on social networks recently.
Fingers crossed for RX100 MK8 in 2025. I hope Sony would finally show it, can’t justify shelling 1400$ for something from 2019 with micro USB😃
