I am glad you like your phone and that is all that matters really, but I disagree with you here. I have an XS Max and I take it off the charger at 5:00 am and have around 40% left when I go to bed at 10:00 PM. Battery life is fantastic. So, I don't see the benefit of losing everything else I get with the Max to go the XR.

The Xr is a great device. That said.... Isnt it weird how much excuse making is going into reinforcing the Xr hype?

- Xr battery runs circles around the XS/Max! (Slightly, but real world then not much)
- I dont worry about OLED burn in. (Neither do OLED users. It’s an exaggerated issue)
- Nobody uses Force Touch (Yeah they do. It’s awesome and if you dont use it then thats a user oversight)
- You dont need a zoom lens (Digital zoom is awful. Having a 2nd lens option is not)
- Portrait Mode works great with one lens (Unless you take pets or photograph non-humans)
- Colors! (Colors are nice... until you put on a case)
- Its so cheap. ($750 is not even close to being cheap. I do love that they offer $50 more for 128GB though)

Again, the Xr is amazing and its the one I recommend to most users and there is so much to praise about it. BUT... why do people need to slam the XS and Max or make up fake XS issues in order to prove that point?

The XR is way better value than the Max. But both are so big that I can’t use either. So X/XS size is my max.

Great post with perfect ending. Everyone should be please for people that purchased what they feel is what fits their wants and needs. No need to slam anybody for their choice.

Little over a year ago I purchased a refurb 12.9 iPad from Apple. Will be very happy for many years.
The new one is a fantastic machine but I’m certainly not jealous or would slam someone for waiting for the new generation and getting a "better" 12.9. Heck, all the more power, "literally ", to them!

Everything about the xr was amazing. I’d have liked to have kept it for the battery alone. However all 3 new models were way too unwieldy for me. Went with a refurb 7 from apple in matte black and a battery case. And a pixel 3. Both nice and light.

Good luck, my wife loves her 7+!
I’ve bought 3 different refurb items from Apple and all have been superb.
Hope you are as happy as I’ve been.

Great, glad it works for you.

Unfortunately I finding it to big and heavy for one handed use as a phone so mine will probably go back and I’ll get an iPhone 7 or 8.

Also has anyone actually had OLED burn on an X?
Aw that’s a shame it doesn’t suit your lifestyle.

Yeah there have been a couple of threads with people reporting burn in as early as August with the “Home Bar”. That for me is a massive turn off when it comes to the X, XS and XS Max.

I'm sensitive and this glare has always bothered me. Not too many reviews astutely pick this up.
It’s so strange isn’t it, I’ve always noticed this with OLED, that strange glare it seems to give off. LCD is a far more comfortable viewing experience I’ve always found. I also think OLED should be ditched until they’ve find a solution to completely negate burn in.

Really? Interesting. I mean, I’m on Team XR too - it’s a great device, and my choice over the XS - but I don’t see the LCD display as a positive. To my eyes, the XS/XS Max’s OLEDs are clearly superior, and it’s not close. Color & resolution on the XR just aren’t the same. Though I’ll grant you that under many circumstances, the differences are minor. But I’m not convinced that burn-in is truly an issue at all, and certainly not one that requires careful consideration from anyone to avoid. I’ve seen no evidence of that.

The LCD is fine. It’s acceptable to me. And my position is that it’s good enough to sway me towards the XR, based on the strength of its other features - primarily, for me, battery life, which the XS models cannot match.

We all have different eyes, and if you find the LCD to be better than the OLED, more power to you. I’m not trying to convince you otherwise. And based on the threads I’m reading here, there are indeed a few other people who feel the same way...but it’s certainly a minority opinion.
Sadly the OLED burn in has come to a head as of August which is really soon to be seeing burn in on a device that costs upwards of $1500 here in Australia. People are noticing that the home bars are burning in, its able to be seen from the app switcher with a wallpaper that isn’t too dark. That to me is poor and I would want my display to remain looking pristine for longer than 9 or so months. That’s why I love LCD, it doesn’t have this issue nor have I ever faced this issue with LCD personally. The screen is the component of a phone that we interact with the most, I don’t want it retaining images permanently that’s for sure.

can you guys easily 1hand the Xr? or is it a two-hander?
Resting more on fingers the XS & XR can be one-handed. When you move them more into the palm and not rest on the pinkie the reach is diminished. I have decent sized hands and both can be ‘managed’ one-handed. The XR will have more moments where you have to ‘adjust’ the balance.

Waited outside my daughter's school the other night for an hour and watched two episodes of Big Mouth on Netflix (downloaded not streamed). I was shocked to see that the battery had only dropped 3 percent while doing so. Granted on Apple products the move from 100 to 99 often takes much longer than any other transition, but still the battery life is just amazing.

I’m Long time high end Android user XR is first iPhone.
XR smooth performance & Battery life is amazing best smartphone I’ve ever used.

15 hours since full charge - Twitter , Firefox browsing, tunein radio , Podcast , checking emails , notifications etc moderate use & I’m @ 3.5 SOT with 58% remaining.
Only downside I’m getting use to is iOS lack of customization compared to Android.
I’m learning to live with it.

IPhone SOT is usually MUCH better than Androids with the right version/hardware, but XR especially.

I’m feeling it even coming from exclusively iPhones (dabbled with some androids but not more than two)

I dont have to worry about battery life, pretty much

Every time I pull down control center, I’m amazed at the percentage its at / vs what I’m used to anticipating

I’m honestly intensely curious about these reports of burn-in. Would you mind linking me to reports/info about burn-in on iPhones? I’m really interested to read the details.

I did search this forum and can’t find anything. I do see another thread where you mentioned the same issue...someone then asked for further details, and you told them to google it. So maybe the reports came from somewhere else? Anyway, I tried and failed. Maybe my google-fu isn’t as strong as I thought it was.

EDIT: just to clarify, here's the specific post I'm referring to - https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...to-the-iphone-xr.2150427/page-2#post-26715898

Right on!
Yeah I no longer have battery worry,
Just hit 4hr SOT @ 55% remaining.
I’m thinking 6 - 6.5 SOT will be obtained easily before reaching 15% recharge point

Great that your enjoying the XR. For me though I love OLED too much. But the XR will be very popular. I already hear casual people talking about upgrading to the XR from their 6 and 6s.

I have not heard of any reported of burn in. I’m also interested in where that info is from.

Thick. Bezelly. Old tech screen. Looks retro. Not for me. Chose Mr. Max instead.

So, I was passing the Apple Store this evening and stopped in to see the XR and buy a case.

First impressions - it’s fugly. The frame felt horrible, looks like it will scratch easily, the phone just felt like a cheap knock off and those bezels are really noticeable!

The XR is certainly a budget iPhone.

Since the frame is the same aluminum they’ve had on a lot of the phones over the last few years, I don’t see an issue with that at all. I’ve never had one of my aluminum frames on my phones, nor my watches, get scratched.

OTOH, the stainless seems to get scuffed up pretty easily (although I hear you can buff it out).

I’ve had almost every phone Apple has made, including the XS Max, which I had to return due to eye strain from the display. The XR is most certainly not what I’d call a “budget” phone.

Tbh I’m kind of conflicted. I used a friends iphone 7 tonight and after a week of using the XR it felt absolutely tiny. Like a toy! Funny how quickly you adjust.
