Tearing open and will report back....

You should be doing an unboxing video rather than tearing it open behind closed doors, so to speak.

Unboxing videos are fail. I don't need to see someone remove something from packaging. :p

I agree. I would love to see a video of the settings app changes any anything else different from the WiFi that you notice. I'm stuck at work till 4 :(

amen to that. Ive opened a lot of boxes over the years and never once felt the need to share the experience with strangers on the internet. Its a box. open it already!

Sitting at McDonald's now eating breakfast right before I go across the street to FedEx to get my ipad. I am pleased I was able to intercept it and not have to wait til Monday.

Yes, I am a dork, but, this stuff makes me happy.

Just got mine about an hour ago...but no unboxing video either. I agree with the others.

Can you sign up for the 3G service when you are not on WiFi? Inquiring minds want to know :).

Well let's hear it fellas......how's the speed? Where are the quick thought's and comments?

#G Here

I would think not since you have to fill in the CC info and a lot of other stuff and that would have to be transmitted to ATT before the 3G account can be activated. But, when you turn the pad on there is an ATT symbol in the upper left corner with bars showing signal strength so that would seem to indicate you can do it without wifi. I had already connected to my wifi when I set my account up.

How can you eat, the anticipation would cause me to lose my appetite.

Are you able to insert some other carrier's SIM (that is, a cut up SIM to mimick a micro-SIM) in order to see if it's unlocked?
I'd like to have one US iPad 3G for using in Italy, but US Apple's customer service told me US iPads are AT&T locked, which seems to me quite strange...

Un-boxing of the 3G

Just picked it up at the local sort as soon as they opened this morn

Read the iPad manual on the US Site

I quote

iPad is unlocked, so you can choose your preferred carrier. Cellular data settings vary
depending on the carrier. If you choose a carrier other than AT&T (U.S. only), contact
them to set up an account and to obtain a compatible micro-SIM card.
[You cant use it on any other carrier than ATT in US but it is still unlocked]

Steve Jobs replied to a email stating that you could take a US iPad 3G international and use a local sim from the country that you are visiting. I'm not finding it with some quick searches, so this and everything else I've heard it is NOT AT&T locked.

Yee hah....time to explore. No time for pics!

Actually I find unboxing videos handy b/c you see what is included and how it all fits together. This is especially valuable with cameras. However, I agree that once there is a good one on YouTube, etc., there isn't a need for people to keep posting new ones like they were Cabbage Patch dolls or something where each one is unique.

I hope it'll work in Italy, that's one of my selling points to the wife.. we're heading there on holiday / vacation in July...

Wow...you really couldn't wait, huh?

Mine is at the Denver sort...but I'll hang here at home and give the FedEx man a big hug when I see him. ;)

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwaanza, <Holiday of Choice> to all who get their magical iPad 3G today!

You might want to lock down an Italian cellco that uses microsims and has a data-only pre-pay plan.

Come on people, better pictures. If any has one they can put side by side against the wifi would be great.

You need to fix that relationship. Me: "I'm ordering a 3G iPad, do you want one?" Her: "WiFi's fine for me".
