Then one day you'll need to format a hard drive or memory stick...Not for me. If ipadOS 16 (big if) delivers, I might actually sell the MacBook pro and use my iPad for everything.
Here's my take on this whole M2 MBP situation (I apologize if this has already been posted about)
The M2 MacBook Pro (and 13 inch MacBook Pros in general) is one of the weirdest and most worthless products that Apple sells. It still has the old design from 2016, while EVERY OTHER MACBOOK has had a redesign.
I think they are not paying any attention to the 13-inch MacBook Pro (the announcement lasted like 2 minutes). They will probably just discontinue it altogether in a few years.
You are paying at least $1300 for a 6-year-old design that still has the touch bar. Now, there is basically no gap whatsoever from the M2 MBA to the 13-inch MBP.
Here's my question/thought - What is the point of the 13-inch MacBook Pro anymore? All you get is 1 or 2 extra GPU cores and a fan. This didn't matter very much in the M1, so I don't think this will matter in the M2 either.
What do you think about this?
Yours doesn’t as there’s no physical escape key on Touch Bar Macs. You don’t have a magic computer that was specially made for you.Mine does.
They mentioned it's the second best selling Mac during the WWDC keynote. Not exactly a mystery why it's being kept in the lineup.Full disclosure - I haven't read through the entire thread.
But I've been pondering this myself, and my personal guess is that it is being kept around for B2B primarily. I would guess that the base 13" MBP is the cornerstone product of Apple's B2B Mac sales and there is no reason to kill that golden goose.
What's this then?Yours doesn’t as there’s no physical escape key on Touch Bar Macs. You don’t have a magic computer that was specially made for you.
That's the problem with this board - everyone thinks they're an expert and can open up the snark. M1 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar have a physical Escape key. That's since 2020.Yours doesn’t as there’s no physical escape key on Touch Bar Macs. You don’t have a magic computer that was specially made for you.
Actually since 2019! There's been a physical Esc key since the keyboard redesign. That's the problem with this board - everyone thinks they're an expert and can open up the snark. M1 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar have a physical Escape key. That's since 2020.
There is a sentiment I agree with. I hardly see the iPad as a full replacement for a computer. If anything it's a companion device. Then one day you'll need to format a hard drive or memory stick...
I bet 99% of people who claim an iPad meets literally all their needs forget that time they needed to go running for a computer in order to do something the iPad still can't do after 15 updates to its OS. Formatting a storage device is of course just one example.
TLDR = keep your computer , you'll regret not having one around for that one time you really need to do something the iPad just cannot do.
Wrong. The 2020 MBP has a escape key.Yours doesn’t as there’s no physical escape key on Touch Bar Macs. You don’t have a magic computer that was specially made for you.
You are correct. The 16” has one.Wrong. The 2020 MBP has a escape key.
Didn’t realize they introduced the escape key on the 16” model. I stand corrected. What's this then?
I have the 13 inch model and it has a escape key.You are correct. The 16” has one.
Didn’t realize they introduced the escape key on the 16” model. I stand corrected.
Man … I’m behind the times. I guess I stopped paying attention to their Intel Macs. I’m wrong twice. My bad.I have the 13 inch model and it has a escape key.
People like to have selective reading. They mentioned it's the second best selling Mac during the WWDC keynote. Not exactly a mystery why it's being kept in the lineup.
I mean a physical one. I don’t like the touch one because it has no tactile feedback.Mine has a escape key.
The physical "Escape" key is present in the M1/M2 13" MBPsI mean a physical one. I don’t like the touch one because it has no tactile feedback.
And the 2020 Intel 13" and 2019 16". I just saw one (Intel 2020 13") yesterday. The physical "Escape" key is present in the M1/M2 13" MBPs
Mine does have a physical key!I mean a physical one. I don’t like the touch one because it has no tactile feedback.
But if they wanted to launch a lower-end version of the 14" with an M2 instead of an M1/M2 Pro, base 8GB of RAM, 2 ports instead of 4, etc, I'm sure that would become the second-best-selling Mac...They mentioned it's the second best selling Mac during the WWDC keynote. Not exactly a mystery why it's being kept in the lineup.
They won't as the new design likely has tighter margins if they cheap it down on other components. The 13" has good margins and is powerful enough. But if they wanted to launch a lower-end version of the 14" with an M2 instead of an M1/M2 Pro, base 8GB of RAM, 2 ports instead of 4, etc, I'm sure that would become the second-best-selling Mac...
Put another way - I don't think it's that particular chassis, the 13" screen, that particular port configuration, or the touchbar that make the 13" M1 MBP the second best-selling Mac. It's the price and positioning in the lineup.
What year is yours? Is it M1? I think they do have one. Mine is 2018 i7 so doesn’t ☹️Mine does have a physical key!
