When you use low wage workers for manufacturing, that is the risk you take. I have no sympathy for apple, when those workers steal from apple and sell to Russians.

It does not help the manufacturing is in a proudly hostile authoritarian state that is allied with another hostile authoritarian state with which we are in a proxy war. Losing a few hundred laptops and enduring a leak are the least of what can happen.

Love Hartley’s rant and totally agree. Apple has started losing their way, and considering the new features, there’s really no need for new hardware every year. BUT, they will continue to do annual releases on many of their products because there are a LOT of people that upgrade every single year just because. I’d love to know how many season ticket holders (aka upgrade iPhones annually) vs those who hold onto their phones for >2 years. From a financial perspective, it’s a really big deal to their bottom line if they don’t sell new hardware every single year.

When cameras go dark during business calls, it’s usually because nature calls. Is he on mute? Don’t forget to wash your hands!

Sounds like a real performance upgrade. Too bad my M1 is so capable that I don't even feel the desire to upgrade, much less need to!

Mac Rumors, tabloid addition

"Shocking leak!! AGAIN! Apple at wits end over latest leak. TOP executives at the embattled company compare it to the devastating leak of the iPhone 4. Russia and China behind it."

How much of the 25% is due to two extra cores in this comparison? "The M4 chip with a 10-core CPU is 25% faster than the M3's 8-core CPU." Albeit, if this is the now Mac Standard M4 core count, this still is a decent bump....It will be interesting to see the single core specs. This is coming from someone who bought an MBP Max 6 months ago lol.
It's a per core improvement.

The M4 upgraded specs sound great for Logic Pro. The additional thunderbolt port is nice, but having more wires coming out of a laptop sucks, negating its advantages to a desktop, especially if the wires can’t be seamlessly disconnected and reconnected with no interruption to any programs or peripherals. What we need is a laptop where the display and keyboard are wirelessly connected to the M4 and its wires to the two displays and peripherals. The display should have a minimal power A4 chip so it can still function for web browsing without needing the M4 nearby.

Honestly, the way apple is rolling out new product updates, if iPhone 17 were to leak, it would not be news worthy..

Forget about the leak. The best part of this show and the section that is so accurate but still not hard hitting enough is Hartley's "rant" about the current state of Apple, its products and its lies about new designs etc. It is about time the truth was spoken.

What do you think about Apple's potential shift towards a more staggered release schedule? Do you believe this could benefit consumers in terms of receiving more refined products and features? Personally, I believe so, but just wanted to throw this question out there.

the state of the company is a joke! - well said for one of the most profitable companies in the world with huge $ in the bank. Yeah they suck!
They said all that about General Electric once too. Look at GE now.

"General Electric was removed from the Dow twice in the index's early days - it was dropped from the index in 1898 before it rejoined the Dow the following year in 1899. After being dropped again in 1901, it returned to the Dow in 1907, where it was a mainstay for more than a century before being replaced in 2018."

In slightly related news, iPadOS 18.0.1 did two hard crashes on me this morning while reading a PDF. The PDF was downloaded and in Files, and I was reading it from whatever app opens PDFs from there. (It was not iBooks.)

By hard crashes I mean all the way back to the login screen.

Mostly I'm curious whether they're hobbling the memory bandwidth on the M4 Pro vs Max. Realistically, I'm not likely to be in the market for a new machine any time soon, but that was the most obvious gotcha on the M3 line, from what I could see. Hopefully they got the message after that release... probably not, but you never know... they do seem to listen to customers more these days than the Apple of old.

Apple is facing a major issue of maturity with multiple products that are being insanely difficult for them to improve year to year with the biggest being the iPhone since that is their money maker. Hartley acknowledges this fact at 16:00 "I think it's ok to wait a longer for some of these things".

Here's the problem with that statement. This is the real world and it's actually not ok for them to wait. Apple needs something to replace that annual Sept event and thats a massive void. This isn't a private company like Valve with ton of cash a few hundred employees and they have much more freedom. Apple is a 3+ trillion dollar publicly traded company with over 150,000 employees with an insane evaluation. Tim Cook and the rest of the board of directors job is to keep that stock price up, thats the fiduciary responsibility the board of directors have when selling shares of their company. If your private company you can do what you want.

There has to be realistic take on Apple's path and it can't be as simple as to severly delay the iPhone upgrades. Even after Hartley said that Dan chimed in right away that he liked the annual iPhone because it's macrumor content and I assume Dan has a family with bills and he knows their can be more serious financial implications for him if Apple didn't have annual updates. Delays like that can even potentially impact content creators. To a much larger scale Apple is in the same boat. Stock price falls lots of people lose their jobs plain and simple. Every choice they make has to be done with the $$$ in mind and this is why we are seeing more and more unfinished products being annouced because Apple is running into the issue of their traditional money maker products being so good that they can't improve them much killing their growth so they have to find headlines like unfinished Apple Intelligence to fill the void.

I will bet you any amount of money Apple does not add Thunderbolt 5 until the M5 Chip in all the Macs.

Thats what I am excited about. You can run Blazing FAST Video Gaming Monitors on a Thunderbolt 5 port. Just 1.

OK, I guess working with large Logic Pro projects is Real World for me but you might better mean "Average User" might be more appropriate. Upgradeable is also not want the average user wants. Average user wants to buy and just use. Techies may want the RAM/Drive upgrades, but that is a small part of Apples Market

I mean I sure wouldn't hate an nVME M.2 slot but yeah. And we don't need touch screen Macs either. We went through that with Windows years ago. A large part of the significant difference between desktop and mobile OS is precise control. Macs have the best touchpads in the world and have for many years.

There were 200-230 MBPs stolen from the factory and sold on the black market. This was not the only one.

At least that is the rumor floating around. I cannot verify since I didnt try to purchase one. 🙃

Someone did an analysis of the unboxing and Geekbench tests and while he concluded that the numbers are accurate and not spoofed, he did find it odd that the box is the same box from the M3 MBPs. Apple updates the box every year and this box was not updated.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm expecting to see a story in the relatively near future where Apple responds to this in one way or another. Somebody is getting charged or getting dropped as a supplier or something. Maybe they want to keep it quiet but I also doubt they are going to let this go.

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the unprecedented leak of Apple's M4 MacBook Pro models and the company's rumored move to more staggered hardware and software releases.

Multiple leaks surrounding Apple's unannounced 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip recently surfaced online. The leaks began with unboxing videos shared by several Russian YouTube channels, showcasing the new entry-level MacBook Pro ahead of its official announcement. These leaks were followed by a listing on a Russian classifieds site, where multiple units were allegedly being sold after what appears to be theft from a warehouse. This marks one of Apple's most significant leaks in recent memory, drawing comparisons to the 2010 iPhone 4 prototype incident.

The leaked MacBook Pro reveals several notable upgrades. The M4 chip with a 10-core CPU is 25% faster than the M3's 8-core CPU. As rumored, it also comes with 16GB of RAM as the new base configuration, doubling the previous standard of 8GB, and support for up to two external displays with the lid open. Another key improvement is the addition of a third Thunderbolt port, bringing the entry-level model up to parity with the higher-end configurations. It also looks like the entry-level MacBook Pro will be available in the Space Black color option for the first time. Despite these upgrades, the display, general design, and other features remain unchanged from the current MacBook Pro. These revelations come just weeks before Apple is expected to officially unveil its first M4-powered Macs, with a rumored release date of November 1.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple appears to be slowly moving away from its traditional annual release schedule for hardware and software, favoring a more staggered approach. This shift is evident with the introduction of iOS 18, where key features like Apple Intelligence are delayed and due to be rolled out in subsequent updates throughout 2025. As Apple's product lineup grows more complex, this strategy would allow for better quality control and innovation by releasing products and features when they are fully developed, rather than adhering to fixed timelines.

While iPhones are expected to maintain their yearly updates, other products like the Apple Watch and Mac lineup may follow a multi-year or staggered release schedule to make the company's launches less predictable and more flexible. We discuss whether this is a good move for Apple and take stock of its product strategy as a whole in light of recent releases.

“Shocking”

I don’t know about that.

Good points. There's an 800-pound gorilla in the room, so to speak, where routine annual iPhone upgrades are concerned...what's happening in the Android space?

Each year Apple comes out with a new iPhone, and we see an article somewhere comparing the latest Samsung equivalent to it and asking which is better. I don't follow the Android phone and tablet market closely; are they, too, running into a progressively escalating difficulty improving on a very mature product line (smart phones and tablets)?

So you’re saying as a professional, you would never wanna upgrade your ram or hard drive, that you would like to depend on externals and carry around an additional hard drive, so your MacBook Pro on the field is whatever you can carry with you externally. And that as a professional you would never ever ever want to upgrade your ram or your hard drive!? Really ???
