I am speaking in terms of what we may be presented with all the new announcements coming from:

Nexus 6
X1
Sony Z3
IP6

All of these have a better chance of impressing me more than what the Note 4 did today because it is still Samsung which means it still has Touchwiz, which means it is still a terrible OS choice for me at least.

This isnt a spec war, hardware showdown. Hell, the WP OS will get more of my business any day of the week over another Touchwiz driven Samsung device.

My point, I am excited to see what the X1 and Nexus 6 have in store with way better UI and an overall experience than any Samsung phone can offer me.

Good choices..... But one clarification.........Android is still Android even on a Samsung phone. The only difference is the skin/overlay the OEM applys

not what you said:

Name one Moto phone that compares to the N3 or Galaxy line of phones.
Can't say the Moto X....camera isn't even close to being on par. Then it is underpowered.

Camera may not be as good, but certainly underpowered it is not matey...

Side by side next to my S5 it opens apps exactly as fast (occasionally s5 opens a millisecond quicker, occasionally the moto x opens a millisecond quicker), and in case of opening recent used backgrounded apps it actually opens those older ones faster because the S5 has to reload the data after 4 or 5 apps open. The moto x may not have the same quad core cpu, but not sure what difference it make when in day to day operation it feels at worst just as fast as my S5 or M8 - and certainly at its best, more zippy than the S5.

The Moto X has been my greatest surprise of all the handsets I've owned this year so far....

I have to disagree.... I picked one up 2 days ago. I kept hearing yourself and SpoonCody say how smooth the Moto X was. I picked up a AT&T model. My experience is the S5, M8 and 5s all are faster and smoother when opening apps and general UI experiences. Then there is the screen which is not on par with the others. I like the active display and the voice always on. The M8 camera as bad as it is simply blows the Moto X camera away. The M8 UI is so much faster and responsive. Sorry MRU but experiences vary......

So, what time is the keynote, and will it be live streamed?

Oddly enough, its being quite a secret. It's weird that today is the event, and no one knows nothing about it. Don't worry, Moto will (f) over everyone with the price of the X+1. Mark my words.

Ayy, you're a USF alumni!

Considering its innards, I have to disagree with you. Based on their info I also picked one up about two weeks ago. Probably the biggest surprise of the year for me as well. BTW, I am not a camera guy and the ergonomics of the M8 in itself stood me clear of it.

Still waiting on the S5 update but regardless it is the device that I will probably sell for upcoming smartphones.

Update for anyone wondering about the "event."

I seem to be getting a lot of questions regarding Motorola's "event" today and I keep seeing this question pop up on G+. Well gang, here's the deal. There's multiple private sessions going on today at the Moto HQ. Today is a time for members of the press to get a hands-on with the new Motorola hardware and ask questions in a classroom like fashion. This is not a public event and nothing will be showed or posted for a while. You'll have to wait for tomorrow's launch event.

Do AT&T have bloat on there ? Has to be some reason then, because seriously mines very snappy.

It doesn't have all normal bloat that AT&T loads. It is not laggy...it is just not as fast as the other phones i have.

I just did a video and I'm uploading to YouTube now of my S5 v Moto X. You will see that the two open apps pretty much identically despite 1 having a dramatically faster processor. However, the important part of the video is towards the end you will see the issue of the S5 has - having to reload older apps as you multitask meaning at that point the Moto X generally outperforms and is actually performing faster than the S5 which then has to reload/refresh contents.

I'll post it here as soon as it's finished uploading / processing on YouTube. :)

The memory issue is about 3 mins in ... :)

I don't doubt any of your experiences MRU. :)

Such a stupid move by Motorola.

Who does things like that anymore? First secretly to the press and then to the public...

Are they trying to buy the press so that their phones get amazing reviews?

I'm sure they want to give the press (the verge, Engadget, TechnoBuffalo, MKBHD) a chance to see and produce some video for them so the very first impression is good. Don't be mad just because you want to see it now.

Unfortunately, if the rumor of the 2300mAh battery is true, I would seriously reconsider whether to get this device or not.
