It's a great device I genuinely have no doubt about it - but just for me I found the 4.7" moto X to be a sweet spot size wise. The new moto X is meant to be pretty much same size as the Galaxy S5, which in comparison with the Moto X when I hold the two of them together I find the Moto X to be vastly more ergonomic and a lot more user & pocket friendly. Likewise the adoption of the 801 is great, but if anything the original Moto X proves that you didn't need those big ass specs to deliver a fast phone, as the video I posted earlier shows side by side with my S5, the current moto X opens apps pretty much identically and actually handles memory better. Therefore to me a jump to 801 doesn't really mean too much.

I would have been happy giving me new enhanced moto assist and display / improve the camera / add SD card slot support and kept it at the same size or certainly no bigger than 5"...

To me now the new Moto X is a great looking device, but it's just cut from the same jib as every other 2014 5-5.2" smartphone - it's missing something special whether that be an ideology / ethos or something else I just don't know. But i just feel somehow disappointed by it. And I do not like the new logo on the back, the subtle dimple was so much nicer.

I see what you are saying. In comparison (I think) the Note 3 is massive and the new Moto X is only 0.5" smaller.

I guess I just need to touch and hold one and see what it's like and if I could get used to it.

Here is the Moto X2 and Moto G side by side. The X2 is top and the G on the bottom. I like the black rubberized back on the G. I also like the big M logo on the G better.

Any info on the display resolutions and PPI?

Just got back from my early morning workout. Two pages full of stuff since I checked yesterday and I'll go through it all shortly.

What a letdown IMO. Too big and heavy. The perfect ergonomics of my Moto X are gone in version 2.0.

1080p at 5.2" would be around 400ppi

720p at 5" on the G would be around 300 ppi

I will be at BB later, two by me one being a big store and the other a mobile.

I want to see the G and 360. I doubt I would go for the X seeing I have the LG G3 and its size is big enough as it is.

I have to size up my current X versus the G.

Anyone know when they will be available (to handle) in London? Would love to pop out and see what it's like in the hand. Am seriously tempted if the battery is acceptable.

I'm reading reports that Motorola are planning on having it in the UK by the end of September.

If the iPhone 6 fails to impress I may give some heavy consideration to the new Moto X. I've been using a Motorola Droid Ultra for a week now and I really like some of the features is has that the Moto X (new and old) will have like Active display notification, and Moto Assist.

Exactly. Next Tuesday will let me know if the moto x or ip6 will have the honor of being my next phone. :D

This looks very interesting. Seems like the camera is much improved. Wish they would have kept it a bit smaller, 5" max. Can't wait to see full reviews and to see it in person.

$499 off contract.

which will likely be €499 here in Europe.

Not sure about the euro, but it's £420 off contract, plus an extra £40 if you want it in leather or wood and another £40 is you want the 32Gb version (the 32Gb version will only be available if you get the moto maker with it). I'm willing to bet it will be a straight currency conversion though, so 499 euros sounds about right for the basic model.

I'm a bit disappointed in Motorola, specifically regarding the size. I thought the original Moto X stuck the perfect balance--the new version just screams of Motorola feeling pressure to keep up with HTC, LG, and Samsung.

All that being said, I still think its a very good device--no one can claim the X can't keep up with the other flagships regarding specs. I like the new design for the most part (but only with the black bezel), especially fond of the black leather though I'd worry how well it will wear and age. The expanded options available in the Motomaker really allow the phone's personality to change from user to user. And they've already undercut all of their competition in price. It's a more noteworthy upgrade over it's previous generation than the Note 4 is, IMO.

One quibble is with the logo button on the back--don't really like or dislike the look per se but if you're going to make it look like a physical button, why not actually make it functional? I'm not a big fan of having the sleep/wake button on the back but it does seem to make more sense on larger devices and, hell it's already there now.

Size withstanding, if I was choosing one Android phone to get now, it would be the new Moto X, no question.

with you on that. I haven't had a moto phone for a long time but this (and the current x) look good.

What I like:
The design
Almost stock Android
Regular updates
Better camera

What I'm unsure of:
Size
Battery

I'll take my time and try one on London when they are available. I also am only interested in the 32GB version as the 16 wouldn't cut it with my needs.

Interesting times. Like others I was hoping for something a little smaller but with high specs.

The 2nd gen Moto X looks really good, EXCEPT that 2,300mAh battery :(

Especially coming from Motorola who are famous for their "MAXX" battery tech, making huge 3,500mAh batteries fit in thin smartphones.

Why couldn't they put that MAXX tech in the Moto X ?

Man that metal band has become the norm now.....who says Apple doesn't dominate the smartphone industry?

Anyhow, no LTE on the G = no sale. Can't imagine an LTE modem would cost THAT much......

The price is $180. Wouldn't people be ok paying $199 if it included LTE? Seems odd.

As for the size, people should chill out. Moto did 4.7" in almost the same footprint as the iPhone 5/5S. I'll bet 5.2" isn't much bigger. They do very well keeping the overall footprint of the device down compared to the size of the display.

I've always wanted to check out Moto. Told my wife I'd be done trying out new Android devices though as I'm all-in on the iPhone 6.....may have to change my mind.....

She's a big fan of Moto though - well as big a fan as she can be of an OEM and OS she's never used. She's taken a liking to them when I've walked her though Best Buy though.

I wonder if there's some kind of agreement with Verizon and their droid line that large batteries are reserved for Droid Maxx...

I thinking people are jumping to conclusions on the battery size, you should probably wait on some tests

Agreed about maximizing screen size vs. overall device but there's no mystery to the dimensions--its 11 mm longer and 7 mm wider than its predecessor and nearly identical to the Galaxy S5, not an insignificant increase. If one thinks the first gen X was an optimal size, the new phone will undoubtedly feel much bigger.

Ahh - I was unaware of the dimensions....that's somewhat disappointing. Though I use a Nexus 5 with ease so it doesn't bother me.

Poor iPhone 4/5 and Moto X1 lovers....this fall will be rough for both groups.

I think they'll adapt though. I remember when I thought 4.7" was massive....now I use a 5" display one handed with ease. All about what one is used to.
