I thinking people are jumping to conclusions on the battery size, you should probably wait on some tests

Agreed but based on first glance, it doesn't bode well. The new device display is much larger with over 2x the pixels to push yet the battery increased in size by only 100 mAh. I hope Moto has included some serious power conservation mojo in the new X.

What a letdown IMO. Too big and heavy. The perfect ergonomics of my Moto X are gone in version 2.0.

Thats is my initial feelings too.

Also remember this is using a standard Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, not Motorola's X8 architecture seen in the previous Moto X. Therefore from my understanding they are relying on the Snapdragon 801 now to do the contextual and voice processing - which will surely have some additional overhead power-wise. Likewise even active display whilst energy efficient, will use more power on a 1080p screen than it does on a 720p screen.

It will be interesting to see peoples battery life on the device.

Ahh - I was unaware of the dimensions....that's somewhat disappointing. Though I use a Nexus 5 with ease so it doesn't bother me.

Poor iPhone 4/5 and Moto X1 lovers....this fall will be rough for both groups.

I think they'll adapt though. I remember when I thought 4.7" was massive....now I use a 5" display one handed with ease. All about what one is used to.

It will likely be one of the easiest to use one-handed, of the large display devices--Moto is king of minimizing bezels. For example, the LG G3 is another great example of minimizing the overall device footprint yet the new Moto X is 5.5 mm shorter and 2 mm narrower with a display only 0.1" smaller. That's awesome use of space.

But as mentioned, it's still quite a bit bigger than the first gen so if you're like me and prefer a smaller phone (I take mine everywhere when i'm active), it's still pretty big.

The irony of my entire discussion though is that if I'm going to pick up a new iPhone at any point, it'll be the 5.5" version as I'd love to just be able to carry it instead of my iPhone 5s and iPad Mini when I'm out and new access to the web/media. I can get away with it because I'd keep my 5S for those times when i'd like a smaller phone.

To be honest, the moto g is more attractive right now. $180, 5" display, "all-day battery?", the gap between the two seriously shrunk. Before the moto g was clearly targeted at the developing market with its underwhelming 4.5" display and terrible camera. Now it's a got a respectable 5" display and an 8 MP shooter. I can't justify the price difference now.

The only thing the new moto x has going for it is the active display. Unless they improved touch less control (which I doubt), I'd choose moto g (2014) over moto x (2014) any day of the week. Oh well. The moto g is incredible now.

All really good points--didn't realize they had completely moved away from that customized chip architecture. Really not looking good but of course, will reserve judgement after seeing some real world use.

Other than the lack of LTE on the G I would agree with you.

If the G had LTE, I'd be there with you.....but no LTE = no sale for me.

Wouldn't it actually be more worthwhile then to just get a first gen Moto X, as the new G's specs seem each the same or inferior to the first gen X in most areas and you'd get the benefit of Active Display and LTE connectivity?

Wait a month and I can't see the first gen Moto X costing much more than the new G, if at all.

I need to see this in real life and play with it. At first glance, I really like it! The leather back looks awesome!

Need to make my choice on Tuesday.

I want to know if this camera will produce images as good as my Samsung phones and does the AT&T version support all needed bands and have CA support?

I agree the leather back looks great, but I'm concerned how it will hold up over time.

I was just planning to play with the new G and measure it against my original X. That is all it is worth (free look ) considering I own the latter.

For another line, I may just do this. Friends have the 1st generation and it still is pretty good. Also, LTE is a must

I think both phones are great upgrades. A few things:

Not entirely sure on the size increase. I think Moto hit the sweet spot in the 1st gen X. I have massive gorrilla hands but appreciate sub five inch smartphones.

Not sure on the battery either. There's a much larger, higher res screen, much more powerful CPU and the like and they only have it a 100mah boost. hmmmm.

Other than those niggles I think it is a great upgrade. I think it looks fantastic. I'm going to need a good excuse to upgrade as my current Moto X isn't causing me any problems.

The Moto G I think got a good upgrade too. CPU and RAM stayed the same but it got a screen size boost and micro SD expandability (although some models of the 1st gen already had that).

In case I'm missing it, anyone seeing the new G on BB's website?

The Moto 360 kept coming and going from their site but looks stable now for order.

There's definitely a reason it's shipping with a super fast charger. They already know the battery life will suck.

----------

Also, the design isn't bad but good lord those speakers are so horrible looking.

Just watched an unboxing and brief run through video from Droidlife and I have to admit, it's a pretty damn good looking device with black front/black leather, much better looking than in still photos. The metal frame is a slate color when paired with the black front which, IMO, looks much nicer that the more natural silvery color found paired with the white front.

They stated that you can even customize the colors of the rear dimple and speaker grills.

It's a touch bigger than I'd prefer but the design has already grown on me, looks much more premium when compared to last years model.

Yeah, I saw that unboxing early this morning. Surprised to hear you can customize the speakers. Maybe they'll have an all black or all white customization to blend in with the front of the phones better.

----------

Punit Soni confirmed that the existing Motos will get the new software features, hardware permitting.

My problem with the white is how all the sensors standout--little black circles everywhere, looks terrible IMO.

No, the voice processing is still handled by a custom chip, as is the contextual actions as well.
