I’ve got a IPP 12.9 and IP mini 6. I can see the jelly scrolling on my mini 6, but I almost never use it to scroll through (large amounts of) text. I use my IPP for those times I need to do a lot of scrolling through text. Great pair of devices for my use cases … complement one another very nicely.

Yep. I had no issue. I'm not saying maybe some units did/didn't but it's not some major thing that the online echochamber made it out to be.

this post is very misleading as the jelly scrolling is here and definitely noticeable . the fact that it doesnt bother you or that your eyes don't notice it doesn't make it a myth .

your view of the reality and the world around you doesnt make anything you see absolute . myth certainely isn't an appropriate term

Your Jedi tricks don't work on me.

Bought mini 6 at launch, saw jelly scroll. Returned it. No dramas

It’s somewhat amusing that jelly scroll is very prominent when using this forum, with its contrasting horizontal lines. They almost tilt to a 45 degree angle when scrolling through forums as the jelly is so bad.

All 60Hz LCD screens do this. No matter the model, maker, size. It is the nature of 60 Hz LCD screens.

So the reports are subjective, the screens don’t vary. Try hard enough and you’ll see it. The only variable is due to size the Mini is optimized for landscape use. So the refresh is visible in portrait use. It is non-existent in landscape.

Wrong. It is a low quality panel and not due to it being 60hz.

Geez, this is how 60 Hz lcd panels work. It is in fact a very high quality panel. The only difference is the refresh is optimized for landscape vs portrait use. All 60 Hz lcd displays exhibit this behavior. Do some research.
I have the research in front of me, namely 7 old phones and tablets from the last 10 years and not one of them exhibits obvious jelly scrolling like the iPad Mini. Not in portrait or landscape. People think this is due to it being a 60hz panel and that is nonsense.

This is exactly true. You have a bunch of people here trying to look at everything Apple does with negativity. If I believed all the negativity about the M2 MacBook Air overheating and running slowly, I would’ve never bought it. It’s an outstanding computer. It’s the same thing with any other Apple product. If you’re worried, you have two weeks to return it. Don’t depend on someone else’s negativity to influence your purchase decision.
Agreed, I put a lot of stress on my MBA M2 every day, including having it hooked up to a Studio Display for work. It's never failed me. I think people on here are over critical and are actively looking for something to complain about. There are far worse things in the computer world than what's complained about here. You have to wonder if they have ever attempted to cast their screen to a wireless display using a PC... that's a nightmare! Or keep an HP printer connected to their wireless set up for over a week... People take Mac computers for granted. I did, and switched to PC for 3 years... 3 long stressful years... Don't get me wrong, there are some good points using a PC, but for simplicity sake I'd prefer a Mac now that I'm no longer in school. I do miss Microsoft Project though.

Not nonsense, based on how these really operate. Your “research” is anecdotal. There is a ton of data on 60 hz refresh flickering out there.

Every single 60 Hz lcd I’ve got on hand and have had on hand previously displays this behavior, and it is well documented.

Some reading for you:

Other screens may technically exhibit this phenomenon but they don’t do it to the degree that the iPad Mini 6 does it, not so obviously to the naked eye. I have NEVER owned a phone or tablet that has done it so badly that I’ve been aware of it. Stop defending poor quality.

No poor quality in the discussion. Merely pointing out facts that you subjectively reject. Believe it or not your personal view & opinion may not reflect the facts and experiences of others.
So you're happy with Apple supplying jelly scroll display panels going forward. Some of us are not.

This is a technical discussion, or at least that was my attempt. “Happy” has nothing to do with it. You are unhappy and that is clear. Others are satisfied Mini 6 users, me amongst them. It is a tool, nothing more. I don’t get emotional about electronics, they either serve my purpose or don’t. I certainly don’t think anyone that has a different take is somehow deluded or wrong. I pointed to some reference material, take or leave it. I’ve first hand experience professionally with thousands of LCD panels in hundreds of contexts and seen 60 HZ LCD flicker in all of them that refresh at that rate. It manifests in one axis or the other so orientation makes a difference when scrolling text. Some are bothered by it, others aren’t, some can’t even see it. But if it’s a problem that’s too bad for you, but others of us are not lying or in denial. It simply isn’t a problem for us. This is the case for a vast majority of users.

Do you realise that it's only noticeable when the screen is in landscape. In portrait you can barely see it if at all.

Landscape is another matter altogether.

Turn your iPad round, try again, then see if you still think its a myth.
I think it's the other way around. Visible in portrait, not in landscape.
