Why the need to be online ?

Do you need the connection only at the start and during saving the game ? Basically if you're Internet disconnects while playing does the game stop ?

The cities are hosted on EA's servers and not your own computer, so yes, if the Internet connection gets disrupted, you may lose your work from the last save event.

Bit annoying, but whatever. Will wait for some Mac reviews before purchasing.

Hey guys

With Sim City fast approaching. I am excited but I personally do not like using game clients like steam etc, i prefer to download my games and install them on my harddisk from the mac app store. Does anyone know of any website that always you to download and install the game via the harddisk. So far I found a few gaming clients like macgamestore, gamers gate and origin of course offering sim city are there any other alternatives.

Origin works just like Steam, but worse. If you don't like Steam you aren't going to like origin.

you can always buy the pc retail copy and it will appear as available for download on origin

also you can run the pc copy on bootcamp or maybe even a virtual machine .

from what i read though it does install on your hard disk ...
i dont know about steam but i read that the games downloads on your computer pc/ mac and then it installs . the only thing missing is a physical copy. which of course you can get for pc and the mac version will be instantly available. you don't need to buy it separately .

I will be buying sim city from origin however I prefer the App Store any day.

Well today I woke up to the bad news as I have been longing to take part in the new sim city franchise, however this does not change things and I will be getting it come August.

I was just looking forward to playing on OS X the other day but I will have to continue to play in BootCamp for a while longer. But I haven't played in a month or so just because I am tired of restarting into each OS when I want to do something.

It's a shame about the delay to the Mac release but seeing as I play nearly all of my games in Windows (via Boot Camp) I always planned to play it there anyway. That said, it would be nice to have it right there in OS X without needing to reboot.

Is it really such a bad thing? I mean, let them get it right after the big PC foobar. I've been playing the beta and honestly, it seems pretty stable. I guess is they are probably just playing it safe and making sure this release goes smooth. They are also probably waiting to see what Apple is going to do, it would be a disaster if they released a working game only to have it break because of a September release of a new OS (if there was going to be one).

Just my thoughts.

Yes id rather they be cautious with it. Should have a couple more patches before august too.

I just saw the news that they're delaying it until August :(

I was on the fence to buy this, but now this pushed it beyond what I'm willing to wait and pay. The more reviews I see the more it looks like a dud. Less features, more in app advertisements and the need to have a net connection to talk to the servers is wacky.

Arrrgh.. August? Really?? WTF!

EA management needs to swoop in on this project and kick the Senior Producer to the curb!!! They wait until just before the publicized launch day to say.. "Whoops - we screwed up again!!! Now wait until August..maybe!"

With the continual delays... One has to wonder about the "quality" of the Team EA has in place. Perhaps there should have been a cleaning some time ago.

Looks like the development director may have been given the boot:

Well, that's annoying that they delayed it. I hate having to boot camp whenever I want to play, but they did ruin my city during the last update by slashing my export revenues in half. Thanks, EA.

For all intents and purposes, this game has been a disaster for EA, which is a shame because past Sim City's were good games. Even SC4 seemed like a great game in comparison.
