The new 2021 MBP is chonky & thicc - do you like the design/form factor?

Am I the only one that loved the weight of my 3lbs Macbook Pro? The extra 0.5lbs on the 14" (3.5lbs total) does something to me where it could cross the threshold of just being to heavy and I hate that on my back.

The 2021s 14" ~1cm thicker in width, ~1cm thicker in depth, ~0.6cm thicker in height* (compared to my 13" 2017 MBPs @1.49cm. The outgoing MBPs are 1.56cm, so 2021 would be 0.1mm thinner than current, but not thinner than previously)

The design aesthetic is also very resemblant to the bottom of white Macbook, which was released in 2006, the earliest I can think of this design being used. Also imagine this in silver for the aluminium Macbook Pros, which practically had shared the same design

Yes, no dongles and blazing fast and pro but it is a very very very thicc boy.

And the feet... the big fat feet.

I feel like they've missed a trick not going with a more squared off iPad Pro design style. White plastic MacBook were my thoughts exactly.

It's not terrible, but hey at least we got some ports on the damn thing now eh?

I’m okay with the thickness, but the 4.7-4.8 pounds of the 16”…? That’s a lot. May force my hand down to the 14” model. We’ll see once I get both in the hand.

It reminds me of my unibody 2011 MacBook Pro except with a thinner display (and a notch).

Funny how all the ports, thickness, MagSafe have all made a comeback. The Touch Bar has also been scrapped.

You got the height measurement wrong. Actually the new macbook pro 14" is thinner by 0.01cm.

The outgoing 13 was 1.56 cm or 0.61 inches thick.

The new 14 is 1.55 cm or 0.61 inches thick.

This 14" is a big fat ugly thick thing.

I like it. Thicker means better cooling and less throttling. The intel MacBooks with Touch Bar have **** cooling cause they are so thin.

I’m very happy with the update. Looks like a very solid laptop for a good price compared to the old Intel 13”.

I’m not a massive fan of the design but maybe it will grow on me. It just looks like a weird mashup of various old designs - maybe that’s what they were going for.

I do think they’d have looked great in that Midnight colour they’ve been using recently,

Actually I was comparing it to the 2017 MBP Which is 1.49 cm thick because thats what I have.

I have amended the first post to reflect that.

I personally disliked that the new ones got thicker too. meh.

I feel for the very first time in a long time that the purpose of Apple's new laptops is not the design, rather it is now the performance. Very strange. But I did order one - the 14" Silver with the 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 64 GBs of RAM, 1 TB SSD, and Applecare - $4k...

No one will notice a .5lb increase just like no one notices the iPhone getting heavier after each upgrade. Once you get used to holding it, it's the same.

agree. and it is strange. why'd you go for the 64gb ram?

I couldn't comfortably hold the iPhone Pro in one hand. My pinky just couldn't support the weight. Even now I have trouble if the case is too heavy. So iPhone regular it is....

Personally i like it. Kinda looks like a modernized Powerbook G4 ( or maybe i'm biased as it was my first mac ? )
