iPad The new App updating process sucks!

Am I the only one who feels this way or is the way to update apps really broken right now?
Auto update doesnt seem to work and the app update section is hidden so well... If at least they had moved it to the top of the „my account“ screen to start the update process, but like this? It feels really strange to me. Do you think they‘ll improve it till the GM? I already sent feedback.

I got used to it pretty quickly. Since it puts the badge on the account photo it’s still pretty noticeable. Obviously there are some bugs with stuff not updating before a few tries and it’s slower than it will be in final release.

I just dont understand why they had to put it under my account!? It makes no sense at all.
Also why they didnt just add another section at the bottom? It‘s not as if there wasn‘t enough space available...

It’s the same number of clicks, they’re just different clicks.

this reeeeaaaalllly isn't a change worth stressing over this much. I'm sorry you don't like this change, but this is very minor

It feels awkward, but it's still a two-click process. Open the AppStore, click your profile icon and there you go. So it doesn't require additional clicks or anything compared to before. But it sure feels more hidden, but I got used to it on day one.

Automatic Updates is behaving so-so as always, that goes for 12.3.2 as well. I'm not entire sure how often the Automatic Updates are supposed to work? Do they trigger automatically when connected to WiFi + charger? I for sure can charge both my iPhone and my iPad while connected to WiFi and hours later still going into AppStore, search for updates and have like 3-12 apps that wants to update.

I've just made a habit out of manually checking and updating my apps every evening.

I don’t like it, not due to it not being a tab, but because it’s behind your account info.

I’ve always set a restriction,
Accounts changes = disallowed, to add an extra layer of security - nobody can stumble into your iCloud settings and disable minor, but nonetheless significant stuff, without knowing your restrictions passcode.

Updates now require Account changes - allowed, as you can only get to the updates via the user icon, which is greyed out if you disallow account changes.

All that probably doesn’t make sense the way I’ve explained it, heh, but it is a valid complaint and a step back.

If someone is using my phone that I don't want to change things, I also don't want them updating my apps. I assume automatic updates, if you have those enabled, continue to work whether the restriction is enabled or not. If I want manual app updates (I do!) it's because I want to see what they are before I update them, so letting someone else do that who is otherwise restricted seems wrong.

I've never used restrictions but from the way you describe it, the change is in the right direction :)

I don’t auto update, always manual. I want to read patch notes for apps I care about, and I’ve often held off updating some apps which change for the worse.

I see your point though now you say it, ideally updating should have its own restriction option specifically given there’s already individual restrictions for installing and deleting apps.

It’s more if you have accounts locked under screentime/restrictions. You have to go into screentime unlock accounts then go to App Store see updates & update if any not done and then remember to lock account under screentime.

I agree. As it is now with iOS13, I can see me only getting around to updating apps when it’s an app I use a lot, otherwise I’ll just let them build them up. Not exactly ideal.

I’ve always had auto update switched on on all of my devices pretty much since feature was introduced. It has never worked though - need to always manually update my apps. So if they are not planning to actually fix the feature then this change is going to be painful.

I don't like it because it doesn't actually update all apps, gets stuck, then requires me to close the offender(s) and try those separately.

In my experience pre-ios13 this doesn't work unless you have an app update notification (the option isn't there if it thinks there are no updates) and those update notifications only come in without manually opening the updates page and refreshing about 1% of the time. if that.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to find it, but it works for me now. I think the point is that they want everyone to have automatic updating so there shouldn't be a need for a full tab.
