I agree... but since they made such a big deal of the Arcade thing at the WWDC keynote, they had no choice...
I'm excited to see what Apple Arcade ends up as and what it has to offer, and I'm going to get the one month trial if they have one. But they definitely over-hyped it and it really should just be a part of the Games tab.

I religiously check for App updates almost as often as checking email. Hopefully we get disabling arcade (similar to Apple Music) as an option and get the more useful tab back

The number of clicks may be the same but the area is a lot smaller which I find annoying, especially when you have a lot of updates.

I’ve always had auto update switched on on all of my devices pretty much since feature was introduced. It has never worked though - need to always manually update my apps. So if they are not planning to actually fix the feature then this change is going to be painful.

I have it on also but it seems like I'm manually updating so often.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to find it, but it works for me now. I think the point is that they want everyone to have automatic updating so there shouldn't be a need for a full tab.

Even with automatic updates on I like to so into the section to read the descriptions of what has changed in the apps that are updating.

I don't like it either. I think Apple would prefer to have auto updates on for everyone, hence the almost hidden area to perform the app updates.

I just installed the beta... and really it's not that big of a deal. I kind of like it actually. Same number of clicks, just changed from bottom of screen to top of screen. Don't see how that's an issue.

This is me as well. I've submitted it to Apple in the Feedback app after every release of the beta so far.

The only difference I notice is that I have to click on the top right of the screen rather than the bottom right of the screen in order to get in to the app update screen...... what am I missing here that's so horrible? Are people that opposed to reaching up a few inches to tap on something?

People really nitpick change. Funny thing is, for most it will be an afterthought a week into using it.

Yes it will be annoying as I usually use my Max one handed and can’t reach top right. Don’t even mention Reachability, balancing the phone while swiping down from bottom is nearly impossible for me without a serious risk of dropping the phone. I don’t mind change at all, but not when it makes things more difficult.

Sounds like the Max is not the right phone for your hands if you prefer to use one handed tbh. There will always be items at the top of the screen in the UI and in apps, its unavoidable.

Spot on. Take Tapatalk, for example. I just took this screenshot:

Look at my screenshot that I posted earlier. The update page used to be full screen. Now it is a small window so you have to scroll a lot. I haven't installed it yet on iPhone but on iPad the difference is huge.

It’s full page on XS Max

Try this on the iPad.

Don't have an iPad to test it on, but judging from the screen shots, it looks to be about the same amount of physical size as when comparing it side by side to physical touchable space on an iPhone. Non issue.
