if it disconnects from wifi how do u reconnect?

e.g.

my fiancee turns off her wifi at nite when she goes bed so no alerts etc of email/facebook.
and in morning turns it back on.

new system how do you reconnect, toggles it again and it reconnect to same network?
I'm asking for her as i moved back to android

I think it eventually reconnects but I’m not sure. Someone else can better answer that.
If your fiancée wants to turn it off at night she could use Aeroplane Mode instead (assuming she does not need cellphone connection).
Otherwise if she just wants to turn off notifications then switch on “do not disturb” instead.

Apple has released the info. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208086

Personally having used iOS 11 since beta 1 I can honestly say that the new toggles are one of my favorite features of iOS 11.

I agree; I use them constantly when entering restaurants or stores that had good WiFi the last time I was there; previously I either had to shut WiFi off entirely or go through the trouble of telling my phone to "Forget This Network."

More and more functionality and options taken away every day by this company.
I have to watch my computers and devices like a hawk trying to make sure they don't update to
basically steal what I've purchased away. Going down this road eventually soon Apple will just do everything. I won't have to pick or or use any of my devices or computers. Apple will be running the applications it wants, using its hardware bits the way it wants. They know everything and they have users who will accept and excuse anything as a "great new feature!". It's like Orwellian doublespeak. Less is more! Anyway, they'll use the devices we buy and we won't. The lock screen will be as far as we get. We'll just get to hold them and tell people how pretty they are.

Why the hell do they constantly need to fiddle with things that need no change? Especially with functions that have remained constant for years.

You mean like when they moved the Auto Brightness on and off setting OUT of the section labeled "Display & Brightness" in iOS 11? LOL....

That one really puzzled me.

Back on point, this WIFI and BT toggle thing is one that is going to make some happy and some not happy. There is no winning with this one really.

They could have "won" if they left users a CHOICE. A very simple switch in Settings as to whether you want them to be ON/OFF or the new "wishy washy" function that some people with fragile memories seem to prefer because they say they have trouble remembering when they have turned off one or the other. Apple saves the day again, rescuing people who were oppressed with too many choices.

How is this taking away functionality? They've added new functionality that didn't exist before and you just have to go to Settings to get the old disable radios functionality.

By the way, Do Not Disturb is there basically for reasons like that (and can be set up to automatically turn on and off on its own).

Seems like they feel auto-brightness is a built-in thing that should be used as a default, but provided an option to disable it for those who might really need that in accessibility settings.

I don't know about stupid, but it's definitely confusing!

Because it brings functionality we never had before:

* Slow Internet connection on WiFi? Now you can dissociate without having to shut off WiFi completely and remember to turn it back on later.

* Want to disconnect from your Bluetooth headphones? Now you can easily without having to shut off Bluetooth and remember to turn it back on later.

But don't you have to press the Bluetooth icon again in control centre to reconnect anyway?

I tested this with my Bose Soundlink. Press the Bluetooth button in control centre, it disconnects from the speaker leaving Bluetooth on. Turn the speaker off and then on and the iPhone does not reconnect.

@C DM DND turns off cellular too, as my other post she needs that just in case for her father
It doesn’t, it just silences alerts basically. It can be set up to silence calls as well or allow some or all of them to come through as normal.

I don't think this is entirely new. We have three iPods that not connected to the Net. TheY exist only to play audio through headphones (Etymotics, no crappy sounding Bluetooth,THIS MEANS WITH A JACK APPLE!!!). Lossless files are loaded from one of our Macs. With the Wifi off Apple was still able to push two step verification to our iPods. Big Brother is here.

I'm a fan. I have bluetooth headphones that can connect to both my phone and ipad at the same time. But when they're both active, it sometimes gets confused. Instead of resuming my show on my ipad for example when I push the button on the side, it might decide to play music on my phone instead. Now I can just turn it off on my phone, yet it's ready to use again in the morning when I get in my car.

I also like the wifi switch. But to be honest, for me it would be more useful if I could just tell it which wifi network to connect to. For my use case, I'm more frequently trying to get it to drop one bad connection and pick up on another better one. So I'm a little more neutral here.

Thanks for the link. Nice to have this explained. I like the new way of handling the radios too now that I know how it works. No more turning wi-fi off and forgetting to turn it on again when I get home.

At first I thought it was bizarre but I actually prefer it now for reasons others have stated. Nice to be able to ‘turn off’ Bluetooth without it disconnecting from my watch etc.

I haven't used the beta myself, but I heard reports about the new behavior. I agree that it's stupid: the whole purpose was to originally completely turn those connections on and off. To have to go to Settings to completely disable them defeats the point of even having them in Control Center.

I guess the times are changing and it makes more "sense" to just leave them on all the time.

Also, the argument about neither radio causing battery drain is moot at best; Apple themselves recommends disabling both to save power. That, and I'd rather not have those radio waves piercing my brain...

Ehhh. This sounds lame then. I havent updated yet but might not at this point.

I think it’s brilliant, actually. I’m sitting in my favorite cafe at the moment and the free WiFi is terrible. Flip up control center, hit the toggle to disconnect and carry on with my day. I don’t have to worry about remembering to enable it when I get home.

Same thing with the Bluetooth speaker my wife and I share at home. When I get out of the shower and finish getting ready for work and she takes over the bathroom, I simply hit the toggle to disconnect from the speaker so she can connect. When I leave for work my phone automatically connects to my car because the radio isn’t off.

As an aside, I’m getting great battery life even with both radios constantly on so that shouldn’t really be a concern unless you have no Bluetooth devices and never use WiFi.

I agree 100% I think it was a genius idea.

After using the new toggles for a few days I'm a bit disappointed. They don't really do what I thought they would do.

I'm leaving home, I use the toggle to disconnect from my home network so I can start streaming music at once and not suffer from the bad wi-fi coverage as I move away from home. I cycle 2km away to the city centre, I get back home after an hour and the phone does not rejoin my home network of I don't press the toggle again.

Same happened yesterday. Pressed the toggle, took the car to the market, 5km away. Came back after an hour and a half and it does not rejoin my home network

Disconnect from Wi-Fi networks

Open Control Center and tap . The icon will dim and your device will disconnect from any network that you're connected to.
While Wi-Fi is disabled, auto-join for any nearby Wi-Fi networks will also be disabled until:
You turn on Wi-Fi in Control Center.
You connect to a Wi-Fi network in Settings > Wi-Fi.
You walk or drive to a new location.
It's 5 AM local time.
You restart your device.

I never use free wifi so the behaviour is mildly annoying to me. Why there isn’t a 3D Touch option is absolutely mystifying.

It sounds like it requires joining a new location rather than the same location after you travel.
