Despite the poor placement of the home button, I like what I'm seeing. Much more impressed versus how I felt when the One X was unveiled. If Sense 5 is good this can be a hit.

For whatever reason (I've never owned an HTC phone), I've always like HTC. Maybe it was the build quality of the One X (which I seriously contemplated purchasing a while back), or maybe it's just my overall, somewhat inexplicable disdain for Samsung that wants to see a competitor rise up on the Android side.

At any rate, looking forward to all the smartphone reveals this year. Things are starting off with a bang with the Xperia Z, Optimus G Pro, now the One. Can't wait to see what the two heavyweights have in store!

As long as it isn't yet another rounded plastic lump overloaded with bloatware... ;)

You must have never used a recent Samsung product or actually played with a recent HTC device?

Sense is 10x more bloated than Touchwiz. Hell, Sense takes over native android multitasking.

And you obviously do not understand the sarcasm or a post that isn't meant to be taken seriously hence the ;) at the end....

And yes I have owned both a galaxy S2 & 3 as a matter of fact, alongside a HTC sensation & HTC one X (& 8x)... The last update to sense (4.1) made user experience on the One X far better than Touchwiz on the S3 IMO.

Isn't that... small-ish? That's a little alarming for a phone pushing 460PPI and 1080i, no?

HTC... still being HTC...?

After the One X, I just have very little faith in their ability to 1) provide good battery life, and 2) update the OS.

Well the Xperia Z is 2300 too, and 2300 is dramatic improvement over 1800 on the One X.

Will never understand why OEMs release new phones (flagships especially) running older versions of Android.

4.1.2? Google has released three updates (including a full point release) since that version came out.

Yeah they promise 4.2 soon. But by the time it genuinely rolls out Google will be another 2 or three updates ahead.

Guess that's the allure for many of the nexus line.

I wholeheartedly agree and I've come to expect that with HTC, which is why I've been root/roming since cupcake..

I have a super clean build of sense 4.1 jelly bean running flawlessly on my One X as we speak. I know most people don't care to get that technical with their phones but that's one of the main draws of android for me.

HTC , the worlds number one reason to root your phone.

And that doesn't even take into account the fact that once HTC rolls it out then it has to make its way through the carriers. So even if they release 4.2.2 week one i won't filter out to users until probably 3 or 4 months later. And by then Google will have already released 4.3 or whatever the next iteration of Android is going to be.

Gonna have to see it in action before I consider replacing my Droid DNA (which replaced my iPhone 5). I got to say iOS 6 is one of the most boring OS's I have ever used. I don't know how you guys do it but god bless ya.. its not for me.. here's to iOS 7 keep your fingers crossed. Oh ya and how about a notification LED on the front I mean is that really too much to ask? You know MS is bullheaded too and look at that windows 8/surface GO!!

Beautiful phone. I think the design language is a more matured version of 2012 HTC smartphones (One X, One S, One V, etc.). It's more refined and polished. It looks near identical to BlackBerry's Z10 and shares a few design elements with iPhone 5. I like the all metal construction (save for the glass screen). I'm sick of seeing cheap plastic POS like Samsung's Galaxy line which sucks both aesthetic-wise and performance-wise and build quality-wise.

I cant help but think that the measily 2390 mAh battery in this phone will give it terrible battery life. How is a battery like that going to power the 1080p screen, the faster processor and all these new things?

There's talks of the S4 and the Google X phone coming with a 3100 mAh battery to power their 1080p phones. The Droid DNA has pretty awful battery life too

People who say this doesn't resemble an iPhone 5 are fooling themselves. Those chamfered edges, those corners, the strips and two tones, and the color choices and aluminum bodies are more than a little reminiscent of the iPhone 5. That being said, this is the best looking Android handset I've seen, and it still has its own distinct, beautiful look. Maybe better than the 5.

I think HTC really knocked it out of the park with this phone. While I respect what they're trying to do with Sense, I still don't like the skin that much. Really nice device, I'm eager to read the reviews.

Liking the design and speakers on the phone. Would be hesitant to purchase with the history HTC has with their devices. If they have a solid 2013, I'll consider one of their phones next year. For now, keeping my eye on Samsung, Google, and Apple.

Not really. 2300 mAh is a decent size battery. Of course the software will have a lot to do with what type of battery life it will get. At 2300 mAh, there's no reason it shouldn't get at least decent battery life. Of course, this is HTC we're talking about though so... :(

After the One X, I just have very little faith in their ability to 1) provide good battery life, and 2) update the OS.
I refuse to buy an HTC phone for personal use until they demonstrate they can make a phone that is up to par.

For most people, it really doesn't matter. The good thing about where phones are now, is that despite them not having the latest version of Android, they are still quite serviceable. Whether the Note 2 has 4.2.2 or not, it is still a fantastic phone. This is true with most modern Android smartphones now. Also, the average person doesn't know (nor care) about Android versions and updates. It's typically people like us who keep up with that sort of thing.
That said, I prefer Nexus phones, and one of the reasons is due to getting updates. I've been running 4.2.2 since January, and that couldn't have happened if I wasn't using a Nexus.

Xperia Z is using similar sized battery and gets decent enough battery life and has similar CPU , GPU etc too.

No, but the countless reviews claiming that the battery life is terrible and my cousin complaining about his DNA battery is enough to determine that a measily 2100 mAh battery is not enough to power a 1080p screen along with LTE and bluetooth/wifi and a powerful quad core processor.

Thats why there is rumors of 3100 mAh being the new standard for 1080p screens

Maybe its the bloatware or other things on HTC... because the DNA does have a pretty awful battery life
