Cheers mate, missed that.

all good :) i always miss things too :(

I have found only one thing to grouse about with regard to the imac, it doesn't include a remote. Without the remote you are faced with a choice 1.) to shut it off completely or 2.) put it to sleep but leave the mouse on (otherwise the imac comes out of sleep mode when you shut off the mouse). You really need a remote to put it to sleep.

great, ill purchase the remote. its only $25Aus so thats hardly an investment. thanks for the tip :)

def cannot wait until i get mine!

looks really good next to the 24.. Thing is, I have a 20" dell monitor on my desk and I don't know how much bigger a 24, even 27" would be. Might now have enough room for it! So I went with the 21.5, should be here soon.

very simple, the dell would seem ridiculously small :D

I just checked out your YouTube page via your profile here, and realised I've actually watched a few of your videos before without realising who you were on here!

I have to ask though mate, what do you do for a living to be able to go out on launch day and buy the latest Apple gear at the age of 22?!

Maybe you're the perfect example to NOT get married, my disposable income ends up spent on the house, kids, and "family" cars first! :D

A ha ha - just noticed your post (usually don't read every single page).

I guess its cause I don't have a car (yet), most people in my age range do go out and get a car at this time or earlier. So I guess, i've had quite a few bit of savings and in addition to some dosh that I get through YouTube (not much, but hey - every little helps).

I for sure dont look forward to the day I get married - I can wave all these things good bye... literally lol.

Edit: do you have twitter? I remember talking to you once or twice through PM on here a few months back

Can't you just tap the power button on the back to put the iMac to sleep? This worked on previous models -- how about this one?

This is a great thread. Thanks OP!

Now keep those stories and pictures coming. It's great for those of us waiting for the quad-cores to arrive!

The 27" one looks very nice - thanks for posting pictures.

Due to the high resolution (and I'm assuming the distance that you need to sit away from the screen) is text still quite readable?

@ cy88 Thanks for posting those pictures, amazing! I fell in love with the 27-inch iMac as soon as I saw it on the Apple store. Also, great to see that the 27-inch iMac isn't taller than the 24-inch model.

There's only two things stopping me getting my dream iMac...

1 - The Core i7 SKU isn't out until November,
2 - I need + $1000 to actually be able to buy it - I don't use credit. ;)

You welcome. I haven't even seen the 27" when I bought it. I just KNOW that I'll like it :D

I was the first one that got it from the store before they even have one on display.

guys, some videos would be fantastic

videos of the imac running a HD movie or a game with high settings :)

I'll see what i can do for you. If I have the time I'll take some 1080p videos of the iMac playing 1080p contents.

great to hear that the mouse is good, i have high expectations!

cy88: can i ask why you bought a new imac and not just a big external screen?

The more I use the mouse, the more I like it. :)

I have limited desk space (and room space), and having a machine that does it all + more for my need is just perfect. I use it as my daily PC and photography work majority of the time. Now I can even plug in the spare cable box that I have when the adapter is available to use it as a 27" TV in my room!

I am going to be selling my 24" iMac, so the price difference for the upgrade is probably just enough for me to really buy a 2560 x 1440, IPS 27" screen.

Helps a lot! Could you pls also tell me the distance between desk and beginnen of the panel itself? :)

Will find that out when I get home tonight, or maybe someone else can fill you in ;)

have you noticed the hard drive noise, mine seems to making a rite racket, and when i boot lets say iphoto, its taking around 20-30 seconds to boot up and the hard drive seems to be really working hard and can really notice the sound..

I am not aware of any of the performance issue with it. Have you done the update that got pushed out recently? I believe that was pertaining to hard drive performance issue. I did the update as soon as I got it.

Alternatively, if you just want to turn off the monitor, just do Shift + Ctrl + Eject, that'll sleep the screen only. I do that each night before I sleep just because it's way too bright! :D

Please see my attached picture! To answer your question: Yes!

great thread :D

Thank you!

Just to reiterate: The slow startup (when I say slow, I mean 1 minute - but it would hang on a grey screen for 30 seconds) has went away after a clean install.

that would be lovely to see. this will be my first machine that can display higher then 1080p! so im rather excited to see how 1080p "scales"

The more I use the mouse, the more I like it. :)
thats great to hear! when i first saw it i was blown away! it looks like a space ship! hopefully its as usable as it looks.

how is the tracking accuracy? on the mighty mice it is pathetic TBH.

fair enough then, why wouldnt you get it!! i have my hackintosh to watch TV on.

i will have 4 computers (and 5 monitors) within a 2m space around my desk once i get this computer. crazy stuff ha!

What kind of desk is that...from the small amount I can see I think I may want something similar

Thanks

Here you go.

For what it's worth, I watched the Toy Story 3 trailer and teaser in 1080P on my 21.5" iMac yesterday and it looked stunning.

The accuracy of the Magic Mouse is very good - using one finger to scroll up and down pages is brilliant. You can use any finger to do this, on any part of the front surface of the mouse. I have my tracking set quite fast, and even when I move the mouse quickly there is hardly any lag compared to the Mighty Mouse.

Quite accurate IMO.

blast. i see you have a wired MM, any wireless one at all?

how does it compare to the wired MM? i have both wired & wireless MM.

i guess i could put up with it, seeing as though it looks like the features are pretty darn awsome :D

thanks for your reply

The more I use the mouse, the more I like it. :)

How is the mouse tracking speed in OS X on the 27"?
2560 pixels is quite a lot of pixels for the mouse to traverse :).
I like high mouse sensitivity... so I can move the cursor over the screen with minimal hand movement.

I am finding the hardest thing to get used to is the 27" screen without expose/spaces access on the mouse. coming from a 20" imac, I find it a LONG ways to the hot corners. Often having to pick up the mouse to make it all the way to the corner, I will need to up the speed on the mouse tracking..

Otherwise, the screen is BRILLIANT, next to my 20" it is incredibly brighter.

Love it.

Thanks you original poster for the fantastic comparison pics!!! I am soooo happy to see them. I've been slightly stressing if the 27" may be too bodaciously big for me but with your pic, I'm SOLD. I can't tell you how much that pic of the 24" and the 27" side by side help me and others. Kudo's to you for bothering to post the pics. And also glad to hear the mouse is great. I trust online reviews but your user reviews here help me the most.

Just picked up my 27" iMac today:

That's a 24" beside it, FYI.
Nooo! :D I was looking for reasons not to buy the 27", but after seeing this I just want it!

Pedestal on iMac

Hi everyone,

Apologies in advance if this seems like a silly question...

What is on the underside of the foot of the pedestal on the iMacs? Is it an aluminum base that can scratch tables, or is there some form of felt/material to prevent scratching?

I noticed in one of the pictures posted on this thread that the iMac was placed on top of what looked like coasters.

Thanks in advance.
Chris

I could be wrong, but I THINK it's full aluminum base. I can verify it when I get home later on tonight.

Thanks for that...

One other question...how portable are these iMacs? I would like to use my iMac in my living room, which is in an apartment, but would most likely have to move it when having friends over for dinner, since I use my living room table for work/study/dining.

Portability relies on your definition. You have an all in one with a power chord and your keyboard and mouse. So, there isnt much to move at all. The only other determining factor is weight, the 27" is pretty damn heavy, i wouldn't just ask a son or daughter to move it so you can set the table for dinner.

It's very portable, in the sense that you only need to move your iMac + power cable - Assuming you are using wireless at home, and the standard BT keyboard + mouse.

However, the 27" is quite heavy that I am still having a sore arm carrying it yesterday and walking across the whole mall to my car.
