I see ... that was what I was afraid of ... the idea of having extra screen real estate on a 27" model is extremely appealing right now, but I knew there had to be a downside.

According to tech specs on apple.com, there is a 10 pound difference in weight between the two iMac models, with the 27" topping out at 30.5 pounds.

I guess i'll need to stew on this one a bit more.

It's still not a refrigerator or something like that. Picking it up from the table and moving it a few feet.. I don't thing you'll have a lot of problems with that. At least for me, that would definitely not be a reason to skip the 27" model.

Thanks for putting that into perspective...

Man, you guys are awesome....this is my first time posting to the macrumors forums (having been an avid reader for years), and I've gotta say...your response times far exceed even the best in class call centers!!! :D

Just picked up my 27" iMac today:

That's a 24" beside it, FYI.

The screen is noticeably brighter. The quality is up to par (if not better) compared to the 24". The extra screen estate is why I did the upgrade. I can't wait to experiment the video in feature. So far, I can't be happier with the purchase!

The magic mouse is also very fun to use. :)

Man! I can not believe the size of the box it came it! Just Wow!

You guys are lucky, the Apple Store in Ottawa only has the old 20" and 24" models :( I ordered online (the bonus is that they had a glitch where you could get the video card upgrade for free.... ;)) but now I have to wait for it to get delivered....

I purchased a 27" yesterday and after doing a migration, I spent some time with it.

It's fast.

The screen is great but I think it's still too small to take full advantage of Blue Ray. My 46" Bravia is about the smallest screen I'd really require Blue Ray for, it might be nice if it is your only screen option but not a deal breaker.

The mouse is at the opposite end of the mouse spectrum from the mighty mouse which really stinks. This mouse works great and looks great.

I have found only one thing to grouse about with regard to the imac, it doesn't include a remote. Without the remote you are faced with a choice 1.) to shut it off completely or 2.) put it to sleep but leave the mouse on (otherwise the imac comes out of sleep mode when you shut off the mouse). You really need a remote to put it to sleep.

Can't you just turn off mouse and keybd and press the power button to put your iMac to sleep? I do it all the time with my 20 in iMac, otherwise like you said blue tooth keeps waking my iMac up. Works like a charm here. Give that a try. ;)

I'm not an owner but I'm typing this on a 27" iMac at the Apple Store. Man this thing is WIDE! Takes some getting used to but the display and resolution are awesome. From the front it's an evolutionary looking upgrade to the last iMac, the back is way nicer since it's aluminum. I'd find it hard to believe that anyone who gets one will not be happy with it.

Oh yeah, did I mention this thing is WIDE?

Will somebody with a 27inch PLEASE experiment with connecting a ps3 or xbox to the mini display port...anyway you can...please

Did you guys buy in store or order online? I ordered online Wednesday, but still waiting for it to be shipped.

Seconded. This is the absolute FIRST thing I would be doing if I wasn't waiting for the i7. I would have taken a DVI->HDMI adaptor into the Apple store and tried it already if the ruddy thing had arrived, but it seems to be lost in transit.

I ordered online last night, it was backordered, today instock but only on the base 21.5 so far.

In store. 3 out of 5 apple stores in the area (within 50km) all got their stock yesterday :)

Is there a display port to HDMI cable available yet? I don't see it online yet. I can try out PS3 for you guys if it's available and reasonably priced :)

The box is huge, but it's not THAT much bigger than a 24". (I'll do a side by side comparison picture later lol) However, I am sure you are aware of, the weight is crazy!

Thanks.

That sucks though, for me, as that was one really nice feature that set the crappy mighty mouse apart from other mice.

Thats what I though to but I got my iMac today and you can re-route expose to the right click, I never right click and you can just use control click, but using right click for expose works fine.

You could turn off the mouse then do Option-Command-Eject on the keyboard to put it to sleep.

so cool that you posted a picture with the 24" next to the 27"

my fear was that it would be too big, but finally it's just a wider 24"

i think that i would go for it

because 21.5 will be probably too small

actually, 24" was a good size

but since the 27" is the same height, i'll pick the 27" over the 21.5

thanks for sharing ;)

yeah all they did was make that bottom chin smaller and keep the same height. well done

I went to the Apple Store in Boca Raton Florida today - The 27" is HUGE - I can't believe I actually have to measure my space to see if this BIG boy's gonna fit - I have the 24" now and the difference is considerable. the extra screen real estate means I can run VM ware XP session and safari side by side and have both large and in charge. Gotta wait till november for i7 ...

linky

:D:D:D

cheap but it will work.

also, can anybody please measure how much Watts their 27" (corei7) iMac is? my dad is stressing

im guessing 150W-200W maybe.. (24" uses 100W)

A ha ha - just noticed your post (usually don't read every single page).

I guess its cause I don't have a car (yet), most people in my age range do go out and get a car at this time or earlier. So I guess, i've had quite a few bit of savings and in addition to some dosh that I get through YouTube (not much, but hey - every little helps).

I for sure dont look forward to the day I get married - I can wave all these things good bye... literally lol.

Edit: do you have twitter? I remember talking to you once or twice through PM on here a few months back

Yeah, I remember PM'ing you when I first joined, mainly because it was a "friendly face" from the same city as myself.

I don't Twitter mate, I tried it out and really couldn't get into the thing at all ... I deleted my account when my mate put up a post saying, "Just finished an Asda pizza, well tasty"!

I mean, come on! :D

macdoofus's 21.5 just shipped from Ohio - it'll be here Wednesday! :D

I already feel like I should have spent more for bigger-faster but I reallly only need an entry level basic apps mac. And, this is it! I've owned several macbooks, powerbooks in the past, but this is my first desktop. Vista is syanara next week - on my way to the top baby!

haha
