Do we think Yosemite will drop before, after or during the September 9 event? If Apple wedge OSX in alongside iPhones, iOS8 and perhaps iPads, it will become quite unfocussed since I assume it's going to be an iOS event.

the Mini certainly could launch alongside Yosemite, so I'll be getting excited once it goes gold...

There is still hope though, I believe in Tuesdays.

I have assumed Yosemite would be in October, but on the other hand I guess it would make sense to let the iPhone6 customers have Continuity from day one?

You're probably right, if the Developer Previews push out every ~ 2 weeks(?) and it follows the Mavericks timeline we can expect 2 more previews then a GM seed, so that's another 6 weeks until even a potential GM build.

I got confused because I think iOS7 got 6 DPs until it was released. I have no idea what state Yosemite is but thought maybe it might be imminent because of that preconception.

I'll carry on willing the online store to go down now ...

you guys realise that apple will release a new mac mini in October...so any hopes for sooner is a waste of hope

Still here! Still waiting! I want my mac mini now please. Mine is currently upside down with the bottom off as I may or may not have knocked the thermal sensor off during SSD install then bodged it using blu tack and copper wire. #ventilation

Well?

I would take that... Never happen but looks awesome.

I wonder how many people are watching the thread waiting to be the magic 3000th post and bag that coffee morning with Tim, Jony and Dre and a signed 2014 Mac Mini prize. Hmm...

Wow, the posts have come fast today……. maybe the highest rate of increase since the thread started…. over 80 today. It must be a Tuesday and 3,000 posts in the offing, if not an actual updated Mac Mini.

I remain mildly bemused. Given that the current Mini runs the current, and anticipated OS and software, it will not become obsolete for a good few years, even if it is not quite cutting edge.

Personally, I am going to put a SSD in my base model early 2009 Mini, which has had just 4 GB of RAM added. For my needs it should see me right for a bit, may through another generation or two of Mini.

yep, I've officially given up (even if it comes October or whenever), ordering a base i7 mini and stuffing my 256gb SanDisk SSD in there and some nice 16gb of ram.

In the end its a capable computer and even with Haswell/Broadwell the only real difference will be a margnial increase in computing power and a much better GPU, but since I don''t plan on doing any gaming on it (i have a monster gaming PC for that purpose attached ot the TV) the HD4000 will suffice to drive my 1080p monitor...

Plus, whenever it is released I can just sell the current model, Apple second hand market is decent enough so I should be able to recoup a good amount of the money spent... :)

bring on post 3000! :)

I didn't understand if you're just stating that as a fact or mentioning it as a reason for not having a Mini update. If it's the last, my Early 2008 iMac will run Yosemite, but there have been "a few" models after that :)

If it's the first, my bad :p

I have officially given up on mini. I plan to buy an imac/nmp/pc. However i cant decide because non suite my needs precisely. Mini with a decent gpu would be perfect fit.

I still haven't given up on the Mini, but like you, I feel that a Mini with at least an Iris Pro would be great for I need/want. The truth is that the only thing that kills me in the current Mini, is in fact that damn HD 4000!

Open Letter to Apple

First, some context: My late 2008 Mac Pro has the infamous spontaneous shutdown problem. About three weeks ago it reached a point where I couldn’t use it for work or university anymore. I decided to buy a Mac mini. After a little research, it became clear that now is the worst time to buy one, especially after this mid-2014 “mistake."

What are my options? Trying to fix the Mac Pro already cost me ~$150 (I replaced the graphics card). I can try several things next, replace the memory, or the memory risers, or the PSU. One of these could be the problem, or not. All the money could go to waste if the problem is the logic board. I don’t want to pay that much to find out…

In the meantime, I borrowed my nephew’s iMac. He’s on vacation until the end of the month. I don’t know what to do when he comes back. I have to make a decision this week. This is all happening at the worst time. I’m swamped with work, and I have to submit my final university assignment next month.

First all, you should have acknowledged this Mac Pro problem a long time ago and offered a replacement for everyone with this issue. Second, you caused this first world *****torm when you made that mistake about the mid-2014 Mac mini. Own up to your mistake! At least tell us if a Mac Mini is coming out this month so people like me can make expensive decisions.
