Zotac is the new Mini PC master. They specialize in Gaming PC's and componets. That's where their profit lies.

They don't make tablets and phones.

Apples and "oranges". ;)
Named Zotac, since they find profit on mini pc, and actually delivers new or updated designs very often, as the fanless i5 zbox nano C series or the sphere or the gaming ei750 or en760, they profit where Apple also its a main competitor (also I think is the original mini pc, since before the Mac mini no other manufacturer deliveries real pc on such small package).

Apple are Apples, and orange are oranges, but I don't believe is more expensive to R&D an zbox than a mac mini, if zotac managed to profit selling the hottest mini pc, why Apple can't if they sell much more units.

Another, u don't believe mini pc eat AIO market, if so hp, Dell and lenovo will fear on zotac more than Apple.

It would be nice if they built one to be OSX compatible. I seen some Hackintosh ones but there are still problems with some components. Extreme high performance machines.

Impossible Apple to license OSX, from what I've read to Hackintosh the ei750 the only challenge is the wifi-bt module, you need to swap it for a new one compatible or one coming from an used Mac., all other components just works.
Of course don't include AMD or hybrid gpu, unlikely to be stable as Hackintosh.

I think there are some sound card issues too I seen on TonyMac.

just bought the base late 2012 model, 5400-rpm HDD is ultra slow and HD4000 out of date, but I couldn't wait any longer. In my opinion new model won't see the light of day this year and will be introduced at WWDC '15.

Yeah somewhere back about 1000 posts I predicted jan 2015

we are now on page 125 post 3100 plus and the thread is 9 months old.

still waiting. I have 3 minis in house

1x 2011 discrete gpu
1x 2012 base
1x 2012 quad

If they go full ssd inside they can make it almost small like apple tv

Nope Serban..

Need ports unlike the Apple TV with only 4 connections, and you cannot include all the ports that are on the Mini that we like, and keep nearly as small as the Apple TV. No way

MacMini...

4/5 USB 3.0 ports
HDMI
Power cord connector
Lightning port
Headphone/stereo speaker connector
Cooling Fan
SSD card
Monitor connection
Ethernet connection

No way can any new form factor like the Apple TV. New Mini if there is a new form factor will be very close to the current model if not larger. Like the newest AirPort Extreme is larger than the older model. ;)

They can make it half of the current side. Apple is with portable in mind....even the mac pro is now more portable than the predecessor. It's clear Apple will do everything for this matter. I will not be surprise that they will loose the Ethernet connection
Now the biggest component is the hdd with 5400 rpm. This must be erased from the entire Mac line up. Even from the iMac. We are in 2014 and Apple is a future company
They was the first to eliminate the floppy disk, the cd rom, and the standard hdd with Macbook Air

I agree, the only problem is thats it is not based on our likes or needs. Apple is driven by a minimalist ideology.

The Nuc and Brix are almost the size of the current apple tv. I'm sure they could make a mac mini the size of the current ATV is they so chose.

No way is the a new model going to be bigger, thats for sure!! I would say it will be NUC size or slightly larger then a NUC if apple chooses to keep the built in power supply and standard 2.5" hard drive.

They are loud. I don't mind it being the same size as long as it remains quiet and cool enough so I can't fry an egg on it.

I think Apple was waiting for Broadwell. With a Broadwell CPU and Apples talent they could make a silent Apple TV size Mini. I'd just update the current design and call it a day but who knows what apples plans are. If the wait till next summer they make a mini with around 7 ports

HDMI
3 USB 3.1 type C
1 thunderbolt
toslink (instead of the big optical)
Power cable.

The current ATV has 5 port and the current 11" air has 5 ports.

By replacing the power cable with a smaller one, getting rid of the big optical port and the big ethernet port. Apple would have lots of room for What apple decides we need:D.

If its not silent, then apple will not release it. The heat is another thing, it may cook some eggs.

I had no idea the Brix was THAT small! I'm pretty sure Apple is shooting for some kind of micro footprint with acceptable thermal performance and silent operation. It'll be SSD based and saddled with an iGPU, but should be super fast and power efficient. Whatever the case, I'm still anxiously awaiting their reveal. I hope it wows like the iPad did.

Zotc, like most others, makes mini jet engines. Any idiot can make a small loud box. Even me. Small fast and silent. There lies the trickery.

The problem with all the Mini's running Iris Pro is the heat it generates and the Mac Mini will be the same unless it is throttled way down and thats the Haswell dilemma.

F. Y. I. Zotac now has the C series Nano 100% fanless with upto i5 dual core and Intel 4200 graphics; FANLESS you read it? Name Zotac idiots again.

I've checked the ei750 and en760 both performance oriented and aren't noisy, actually seem on much lower noise level on common tasks than current Mac mini, while on gaming not so loud ( Mac mini can't reach its performance level yet) , I'm not a zotac representative to favor but it's the true right now Zotac can give some lessons to Apple on mini pc.

I'll love Apple to aquire Zotac (or they staff) and rely on they the design and update of the new Mac minis.

The Zotac is about the size of the Mac Mini and the reviews I have read on them are that the noise is not loud.

They won't run OSX.

If I get a zotac I'll install Ubuntu on this, and Wine to load few wincrap apps (same I run on my Mac on wine) and Virtualbox to run OSX on a vm if the case, and Steam for gaming, that's cover most user needs.

Of course here we compare hardware capabilities, not which platform it's better, all we are Mac OSX crowd the best os and more less the best hardware (exceptions are the Mbp e2011 and the long outdated mini)

Yes, that sounds like that's one way to deal with it. I wasn't aware that Zotac supported Linux.
