Yeh, if you hit the little fanless icon under the first chart it will show the fanless ones.

No, "FanlessTech" is just the name of the site that provided the leaked slides. If you look in the fine print of those slides they say "Low-acoustics active cooling design". FanlessTech's interest in these products is due to the expectation that third-party vendors will offer fanless systems based on these boards, just like today with the Haswell NUCs. Intel sells both the kit including the chassis, and the bare board for use in a third-party chassis.

So these are not fanless?

Yep, sorry, my dumb Monday mistake. Doooo

Yeah, I was fooled by that FanlessTech watermark when I saw the earlier leaked slides a few months ago...

Anyway, there will no doubt be fanless versions available from other vendors, like this Haswell NUC based on Intel's own motherboard.

There are plenty of others selling similar products, some with case designs of their own and some just assembling computers in Akasa's fanless cases for NUC boards. But the one from Logic Supply is the only one I have found that is available in orange! :) And it has gotten good reviews too, with no signs of thermal throtting from what I have read.

The Broadwell i5 version of this will probably be my fallback when I give up on waiting for the new Mini. I'm a dual-core i5 kind of guy, so this is the right one for me. But it may fall short for those who are dreaming of the quad-core i7 Mini...

In any case it's interesting to see that Intel is apparently planning on keeping the same TDP compared to the Haswell NUCs, suggesting that they will take the 14nm gains out as performance improvements rather than lowering the power consumption.

The reference model is the 13-inch rMBP for me, it has non-pro Iris Graphics and I think that's the best we can hope for in the next Mini.. Even just that would be a nice improvement over the current HD 4000.

The GPUs go with specific CPUs. You won't find a dual core with Iris Pro or a quad core with Iris.

That's a fanless computer! Nice one! http://www.logicsupply.com/computers/processor/intel-core/core-ml320/

Good find.

I'm not totally clear on the GTx <-> HD grade correspondance, but I'm seeing quad-core Haswell processors with both GT3e and GT2 available.. Which is the non-Pro Iris Graphics then, 5100 and/or 5000 and/or 4600?

GT3e = Iris Pro/5200?
GT3 = Iris Graphics/5100? HD 5000?
GT2 = HD 4600? HD 4200 ?

Caveat: I may have totally screwed up that list.

I have been having a chat with an Apple reseller acquaintance of mine who has been pretty accurate with info in the past. He told me that he has been given two conflicting stories concerning the Mini. Scenario 1. it will get a refresh but that it's likely to be its last before being retired. 2. it's not getting a refresh and will simply be left until a point in the future whence it will be dropped from the line-up, no date given.

I have no way of confirming the above so don't shoot the messenger, I'm simply relaying the info as it was told to me.

Resellers know nothing up front, maybe one or two days before release.

I jumped ship and bought a base rMBP 15".

But I still hope the MID 2014 Mac Mini is released tomorrow which is the last possible date for MID 2014 ...

Quick Poll:

So what does everyone really think (not desperately hope)?
A - The Mini will finally get a Haswell update and be released this year
B - The Mini will not be updated until Broadwell and get released, say, this time next year
C - What we've got now is as good as the Mini is going to get.

Praying for A but realistically I'm expecting C.

I've been watching closely for months to see what new hardware is coming out. Today I found a review of the ZBOX EI750 at Anandtech. It's been out a while and has been reviewed elsewhere before. But it is indeed a Mac Mini sized PC with i7-4770R having HD Graphics 5200. Not a slouch for a Mini substitute. Buy it bare and add your own OS, RAM, and SSD or HDD. $650 at Newegg

I've also looked at the HP ProDesk 600 (starting at $619) and EliteDesk 800 ($699 and up). Both can be configured with as high as i7-4785T. (2.2Ghz, Turbo to 3.2HGz, HD 4600) Nice, compact units as well that accept 2 2.5" HDDs. An M.2 drive is an option.

Brix has a higher power i7 but is loud. One review said it is prone to throttle back due to thermal limits. NUCs are small and boxy but don't have as strong a CPU.

If I had to buy one of the above today it would likey be the Zotac as I could build it out at higher performance/price than the HP.

Looking at Passmark scores, the optional i7-3615QM in the 2012 Mini is no slouch... likely one reason why there was no Haswell upgrade. But for now I'm not buying anything since the new Mini will be out on Tuesday.

I bet that Zotac is a jet engine. I am VERY curious about the HP 600 pro.

The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming

Gonna wait out till tomorrow. If there's still no new mini, I'll go for the base 13" rmbp instead just to keep me occupied till the new mini comes. :)

Unfortunately, and sadly, this actually has the ring of truth to it. And the worst part is, besides all the other worst parts, is that if there is one last upgrade, it will most likely be a feeble one.

Apple, watch your step. We made you, and we can break you. Mark my words.
