Great choice! I bought one for my nephew and I was surprised at how powerful it was for the price. If you dig around the refurb dell site, a high end model can be had for as little at $400.

Ohh!! Thats the problem with my country (cyprus). We dont have any refurbished stores or nothing. The dell i am looking is 1300 euros

We dont have an apple store around.
3000$ nMp is much higher than the us stores. Mac mini is not logically priced here. We dont have proper financing options. Thats why i want to make a smart choice so that it lasts long. I wish i could buy and sell stuff so easily.

Thanks for the opinion by the way.

I really do get the feeling Apple are repositioning themselves in the market place. I think they see their future in mobile and i-devices, wearables etc.

I'm not saying they will move away from the traditional computer altogether. I do however think they will rationalise their current lineup. As for the Mini - well I still think it's all to play for, though I do expect it to be a casualty of that rationalisation - at some point, yet to be decided.

They need apps for those mobile devices and apps need developers who in turn need a Mac and a lot of them have Minis.

It's hilarious how often this is raised - for any Apple product that is getting a bit long in the tooth. First, the future is mobile. Second, they are not repositioning, they are positioned. And lastly, it doesn't mean they've abandoned desktop Macs. If I had a nickel for each time this doom was forecast while we were all waiting for news of a Mac Pro refresh, I'd have a controlling interest in Apple stock by now.

Just 9 days since 3,000 was reached, and there thread is already a quarter of of the way to reaching the next grand.

Does that make this the fastest growing thread?

Are Mac Mini folk the antsiest rumour-mongers?

The one thing I see from this thread is people from Mac Pro thru the IPod have comments in this thread along with Windows people.

It's amazing what this little guy means to the computer industry.

For as popular as it is, Apple pays little attention or comment.

well.. there's like 10 of us who comment on here. ;)

Why "ghetto" headphones?

That's the image presented to me by Beats wearers, definitely inner-city, long shorts worn way below the underwear. I use the term "ghetto" somewhat sarcastically. It contrasts with the young people of all colors that I see parked in front of Apple products at Starbucks or shopping in the local Apple Store.

I think I am going to start looking for a NUC forum, where there is actually a chance of timely updates :)

Tuesday has come and gone and not a damn thing.

I'm really interested in the new Broadwell NUC coming in January. I'll check out the reviews and see what Win9 reviews look like.

If they really work well with no noise issues I might get one for my HTPC. If they are still noisy I'll wait for Skylake.

My 2012 I5 Mini and OSX will be my preference for my main computing needs since I don't have to worry too much about viruses and I still need it for the Phone and IPad.

If Win9 looks good and runs well I'll put it on my VM on the Mini.

If you find a good forum site let me know.

We think alike. I found Intel's own forum on Google. Mostly issue related, rather than emotions like here :)

I should be just fine on this mini i7 I have for years to come. But I like to take advantage of newer tech. The fact that there is PCIe SSD and I do not have it makes me insane.

I will run win 9 in Parallels no matter what happens.

I don't think there will be a Broadwell Mini anytime soon. The first Broadwell processors out will be the Y and U which are very low power. I think Apple will put its resources into migrating the MBA and MBP to those processors first. Broadwell H, 37-45W, is more suited to the Mini and is estimated for 2015Q2.

I question the need for two 2.5" bays in the Mini. I see storage migrating to NAS and cloud services. NAS gives you raid; cloud gives universal access and data security (backup). Thus there is less need for raid 1 in the Mini server. Fusion reduces the need for raid 0.

The current Mini with 1Tb max HDD is at a disadvantage compared to the iMac at 3Tb max. What I think is ideal is a new Mini with M.2 X2 or X4 PCIe and 3.5" HDD. I would not be surprised if the new iMacs are offered with a 4 or 5Tb HDD.

So here's my wish list / prognostication:
Haswell
M.2
3.5" HDD
802.11ac
2nd TB or TB2; no FireWire
Mini Broadwell in 2015Q4 at the earliest

Super ouch on 3.5" HDD :)

Don't know about fastest growing thread, but currently it's the thread with the most views and the most posts/replies in the Apple Hardware > Desktops section.

While I do believe the Mini is the Mac that gives Apple less profit out of the whole lineup, I think it's profit might not be as small as we might think.

No, the iPhone crowd is worse. They can come up with 300 posts in two hours just on a rumor about 1GB RAM in the iPhone6. And some of them even think a phone will be presented at the Mac Mini event on September 9!

What we have is perseverance, and the good taste of sticking to just one long thread instead of three new threads every day. We will probably still be on this forum in five years if there is no new Mini...

I can imagine that. Though I am not active on camera forums, I have followed speculation on what the much anticipated Fujifilm X30 would bring.

I have the X10, which in some ways an analogue to the Mac Mini. I got jot because it fitted my criteria….

I wanted something small and unobtrusive, but with a larger, better quality sensor than the typical point and shoot, and a better lens. Most of all I wanted minimal shutter late and an optical viewfinder. I take a lot of action shots of sports events and an electronic viewfinder just doesn't cut it.

I have been well pleased with the X10. Quite a few photos I have taken with it have been used by the local press, and many more have proved popular on websites.

Still I was looking forward to possibly upgrading to the X30, which I hoped would address the odd short coming.

Well the X30 has been announced now. It comes with essentially the same sensor and lens as the X10 and X20, but with many more features…… including an electronic viewfinder….. just what I didn't want. The X30 may have plenty to keep a camera geek happy, but from the point of view of someone who just wants to take the kind of photos I do, it is a disappointment.

I'll be sticking with my X10.

I just hope it is not a similar story for the mach anticipated new Mac Mini.

Very good analogy. Speaking for the Nikon, the "old" D300S which I use has been out for 5 years now with no replacement in site. But much like the "young" 2012 Mac mini it still works fine for most people.

People used to use their film cameras for decades (I used a Minolta SRT102 for over 20 years). No reason to expect annual replacements for technology items as they become mature. Frankly I'd go broke if I had to replace my stable of Macs every year.

Not all of us post here, but would equally like an updated release :(

Agreed.
Though, I have posted in this thread, just not regularly. I am still patiently waiting.
Just got me wife a new rMBP, but I am still running my '06MBP waiting for an updated mini -- her rMBP is blazing fast.:p

edit: I have to run my mbp in clamshell mode because of this, which is why I want a mini:

Mini Pro Mini Pro

I had a dream last night that Apple released a new mini, but it looked like a small Mac Pro. :apple:

The new mac mini is almost certainly coming
