Looks like a new Macintosh on the way. That image isn't just coincidence.

Phase out the mini and phase in the Macintosh?

I tend to agree... Apple seems to have started a transition away from the iBrand with the Apple Watch and maybe we will see that continue with a new Macintosh that replaces the iMac brand. If this turns out to be true, I wouldn't expect anything revolutionary about the new Macintosh in terms of capability (beyond a retina display) however it could signal an entirely new cosmetic or design style (black?!).

I personally don't think this event has anything to do with the Mac Mini despite it having been a very long time since the last refresh.

Dude, you keep talking like that and somebody WILL expect the Spanish Inquisition!

Do you know the real joke behind that Monty Python gag ? Everyone knew the Spanish Inquisition was coming as they sent you a letter 1 month in advance to say they would be investigating.

I did not see this coming. It seems there is a growing consensus that there may be a possibility of a new line of computers, leaning BACK towards a more classic type of desktop computer. I find this highly intriguing.

As long as it is small, SILENT and FAST, I got no problems :)

Oh yeah, and cheap would be good too. But we know that ain't gonna happen!

Still, I am greatly intrigued.

The original Macintosh was an all in one like the iMac!

The Iris pro is pretty good with opencl performance!

I'm not sure the Mini could add discrete graphics unless enlarging the case.

Been too long? Could be the Mac lineup... but might have to do with Apple TV.
The Apple TV has been more of a mainstream fascination... Coming up in a lot of interviews. I think Apple has been waiting on a chip that can handle h.265... So they could halve the bandwidth they would use...

Apple TV + iMac = 42"/50" Apple TV

Long time coming?

Or it could be the Minis....

It's been way too long since we updated the Mac Cube:

I will b super stoked if Apple actually brings back the Cube...

Just wanted to add to your about the transition away from the iBrand, besides the new product not having the i (Apple Watch instead of iWatch), there another new thing introduced at the last keynote (a service not a product): Apple Pay and not iPay :)

Maybe Apple will reborn the full Macintosh name as brand, so we will be forced to name our Mac by its formal name again, Macintosh Professional, Macintosh miniature, Macintosh Book, Macintosh Book Air, Macintosh Book Professional, and of course the Ive Macintosh (aka iMac)
Thanks the retina moniker isn't now part of the name.

Right. I suspect that Apple wants to really differentiate its new products going forward so these changes make sense.

I wonder if the next iPhone might be simply the "Apple Phone" but there is so much invested in the iPhone that maybe it will stick around longer.

No refurbished minis online in the Apple store. Whats been a longer time in coming out? Only mini's I think.

There will be no update to Mini next week. That is all but confirmed by the lack of an appropriate Intel chip.

Sorry folks.

Please close this thread now.... for the sake of humanity.

According to the Mac Rumors front page, "..updated Mac minis, which are rumored to be in the works, might possibly see an announcement at the event." So, a mini update might possibly be almost certain!

Are there any mini fans around where the announcement is? Please take banners and t-shirts proclaiming your support and gratitude.
You'll either get one of the first new ones, or eternal fame. #

I disagree. The joke is that an organization that petered out in the 16th century suddenly appears in the present day. The phrase, "I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition," is uttered as a metaphor, but then then the Inquisition (not "a kind of," but literally the Spanish Inquisition) shows up. Nobody expects it, indeed. That's funny. (Their silly behavior after they have arrived is, to my mind, a different joke.)

back to the Mini: I don't see how "it's been way too long" can be referring to a Mini. Hopefully we'll get new Minis at the event anyway.

Give the rack a turn!

Sorry chaps, but I predict no mini update at the event. Intel's chip delay pushes the refresh into 2015. Go get some Xanax now from your doctor, so you don't blow a gasket when there is no update.

ps - Long live the Mini!
