not quite agree

The colorful apple logo on the invite was a dead giveaway. The Macintosh brand is returning. New Macintosh available with or without display. No more iMac no more Mini. Just one product going forward. They've been on a de-i branding kick, first to go was iWatch for simply Apple Watch. This was a statement. EVERYONE expected iWatch, but that didn't happen. Now Apple Macintosh makes a triumphant return. They may opt for Apple Mac but either way the i is going and the Apple brand becomes significant in the name once again.
Well at least that's my theory.

The colorful Apple logo hints at iOS 8. Take a look at iOS 8 logo color scheme, it's identical with the color scheme for the event. So it's all about iOS, and iOS devices not Macintosh. Apple is no longer a computer company(hell, they dropped Computer from the name, so it's just Apple, not Apple computers anymore) they are an iToy manufacturer, so don't expect anything but soldered things.

"It's been way too long". What could that possibly have to do with iOS 8?

It's not the same colors as the iOS 8 logo. For example there is a green nuance in the invitation that is not present anywhere in the iOS 8 logo. Instead the colors in the invitation match the colors in the Mac 30-year anniversary graphic, although the position of the colors have shifted along the contour of the apple.

That's a good observation. The gradients in the iOS 8 logo are different as well--orange fading into aqua, for example. The Oct. 18 event logo, from right to left, is green, yellow, orange, red, purple, blue. Just like the old Apple logo from top to bottom.

Orange and Aqua. Reminds me of the very early iMac models. Maybe colours are coming back to the Mac.

Consider this more an Leak than an rumour, this is an very fresn Information I received today.

Apple to ditch iMac 27, only iMac Retina to arrive on 4K@21.5" only iMac size to continue, along the non-retina iMac 21, specifications, same i7 haswell(update) + nVidia 970m/980m.

Apple's also Ditchint iMac brand, new iMac retina maybe just named Macintosh, to come on space gray only, along all new wireless rechargable keyboard+touchpad with backligth (this is the best part of the rumour).

Apple to sell 3rd party 5K displayonly compatible with the new Mac pro L14 , iMac 27 may comeback Late 2015 on Apple's own 5K display.

Mac Pro to receive update to DDR4, Updated Xeon, ditch 4core base model, nw base model 6cores+10GB NIC+HDMI2 + GPU D310/D510/D710; no info but still posible an mac with Mac pro forma factor but based on Haswell-E and nVidia non workstation single/dual GPU (970/980).

MBA12 Annoucement Available December or January, multiple colors, 1080p.

No Mac Mini Update, but not dead, all new minis to arrive Q2'14

Minor updates to AirPort Extremme/timecapsule, as well an new form factor ATV with few improvements yet a bit cheaper

You mean Q/2'15 and that sounds about right except the MBA noshow until 2015 according to ReCode.

No offense, but I hope everything you have said is proven to be wrong (except the Mac Pro update -- I'll allow that "leak").

It just occurred to me that it has been many years since I did such thorough research before buying a new computer...

About MBA some most sources said L14 (this rumur its more consistent than the retina iMac), whaever ReCode also said an 5K imac to arrive, i think he is wrong on both, Chinese analist expect an retina iMac but on 4K ( more likely a 21" model) 5K panels too early to be adopted on mainstream. and Mink Cu Kuo (or whatever he names) who first predicted iPhone 6+, still predicts thr MBA12.

But one thing its annoucement, and another its availability, whatever this new MBA12 will have limited availability this year, but enoug to hold december sales (same as Apple Watch) avoiding customer migration to other platforms on Xmas sales.

Why would you put retina on a 21.5" screen? It seams all rumors point to 27" display for IMac which makes more sense.

Despite being wrong or not the rumour, has more sense to put retina on 21" iMac (pixel doublig HD) its the same escenario when Apple Ditched the MacBook Pro 17 coz not possible to deliver retina display at its size, curret available technology handles 4K well enoug to not require more than minos updates to the iMac Form Factor, and still deliver an optima user experience, while if you want an 27" 5K imac you'll need dual GPU or at leas an setup equivalent to the Mac pro, else to resign to use an very slow machine.

as When the Retina Macbook, Apple Wil ditch the bigger model, and sell both retina and non retina iMac (or new Macintosh).

Gtx 970 and 980 theoretically will drive 5K.http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-970-maxwell,3941.html

How Apple handles 5K resolution on a super thin iMac profile is going to be interesting.

they tested on 3 HD displays, so the 5760x1080 (1920x3), in no way its representative of the chip specifications. Anadtech actually handles offical specifications.

If Broadwell Core M can handle 2 displays at true 4k then surly Gtx 970 and 980 chips will have the architecture for 5k resolution.

It's really not important to me anyways because I would have to mortgage my house to afford a 5k iMac.

I'm still a couple of years from a 4k tv at the earliest. :)

In my own speculuation: I cannot see Apple ditching the 27" iMac, unless they announce retina Cinema Displays and the mythical xMac (somewhere between the Mini and Mac Pro) to compensate for retirement of the 27" iMac. I'd be super surprised if this 'leak' happens.

Rebranding the Mac Mini as the Macintosh is a-okay by me. 3 days to go. :D

One thing is total pixel on memory, and another is rendering the output, this require another logical chip that reads the rendered memory space and put on the display bus, as you read on Anandtech its limited on which interface, the most flexible is LVDS and dont o beyond 4K.

I hope the xMac to come, but i think apple will do nothing on cinema display yet unless Apple rebands some über expensive display as Dell is doing.

That nMP sounds promising

If there is no new MacMini until Q2 2015 I might have to put down the extra for the refreshed nMP

My current mini is hanging on by a thread. I have to keep its fans running at at least 4000rpm or it'll overheat with anything greater than 50% CPU activity.

I need a new mini but fast.
