Intel Xeon E3 3.1 GHz, 8 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz, GTX860M 2 GB GDDR5, 256 GB SSD

999$.

Options:

Xeon E3 3.6 GHz +200$
16 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz +200$
512 GB SSD +300$
GTX970M 3 GB GDDR5 +300$

And you end up with 1999$ machine that suits perfectly between iMac and Mac Pro.

Price, performance, youve got everything ;).

Brilliant. Genius. Perfect. I'll take one with 2 - 27 inch Retina monitors :)

Not hitting 5000 posts before launch time...that is want is going to anger the Mac Mini God, I'm telling you man!

He will look silently at us and simply but coldly say "HD 4600"

LOL! For all of our sakes, PLEASE slow down on the posts :)

I could not bear to hear those words!

HD4600 bad very bad. So most likely it is what we get.

I need to figure out which mini to sell

a 2011 with discrete gpu 16 gb ram

2012 base with ssd 16gb ram

2012 i7 quad with 16gb ram

Well, less than two hours to go before the new iPads and the "other" announcement(s)

Here's hoping for a 4k supported mini, and not just a "hey look we updated the Apple TV"!

What are you guys talking about. The CPU will be soldered so we won't be getting a 4600. We'll be getting a 5000 series or higher.

I'm not going to get my hopes up high... there's a better chance that the iMac line gets updated and renamed 'Macintosh' than Mac Mini gets an update.

Hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, I have nothing better to do today at work :x

My, my….. it's reaching fever pitch, nearly 600 posts since 4,000 rolled over on the first day of the month.

Today is almost tomorrow where I am at. It will be tomorrow by the time the event happens, and I'll be dead to the world by then. I don't know if i'll awake to find a new Mini in the line-up. If there is, I'll have a decision to make…. What will be more cost effective?

Buying a new mini, or upgrading the 2009 with a SSD, and maybe a little more RAM to see me through to the next generation, or to buy the newly announced one.

I dont see how apple could think like that. They dont cripple a product just to be sure they sell another one to some people that have the money to buy the way more expensive one.

I don't see how Mini couldn't be crippled on purpose on the simple fact that they don't have a mid tier option for a desktop computer.

Are we saying there is no market for a $1500 Apple desktop? It's either a $750 mini or $3000 Mac Pro?

A black cat crossed my path when I was walking my dog this morning - may be bad news for the mini.

Seriously though, I wonder if the best thing for the mini today is no announcement at the event. Only a complete overhaul would likely be worth a mention at a keynote and fans of the mini will likely not be keen on the new offering. A brand new Mac (fabled xMac) would be of interest to many fans that want more horsepower but that would probably be offered at a significantly higher base price.

Best case for folks who like the current mini: silent upgrade that brings updated CPU with substantially improved iGPU in order to drive new retina displays.

Here's hoping!

Cheers
