The Mac mini seems forgotten not just by Apple, but by sites like MacRumors and 9to5Mac who don't mention it by name in their outlook summaries.
The most interesting NUC data Intel shared was something it wasn't ready to show us yet—it's a brand-new kind of NUC in a redesigned case, and it will offer performance above and beyond even the Core i7 Broadwell NUC Intel released last year. The box, codenamed "Skull Canyon," will feature a 45W quad-core Skylake CPU with the Iris Pro integrated GPU, which in the Skylake generation means 72 execution units (EUs) and 128MB of eDRAM. The box will also include a Thunderbolt 3 port, which Intel says can be used for data or for external graphics (whether the company would be relying on third parties like Razer for this tech or developing its own Thunderbolt GPU enclosure is anyone's guess). This will be the first time Intel has included Thunderbolt in any NUC since the original Ivy Bridge models.

Skull Canuon NUC sounds like a mythical Mac Mini Pro.
Interesting they basically say that more info for Iris Pro by or around GDC in March:

Wow that sounds terrific. If Apple release a mini anything close to that, I'll scrap together the money and use my "new" 2013 iMac as the monitor.
Yea I'm betting that the new redesigned Mac mini will take the shape of the 4th generation Apple TV. I really hope Apple also updates their Thunderbolt Displays to 4K and 5K at 21.5" and 27" respectively. A new 4K 21.5" display would fit the new mini perfectly.
My 2012 i7 quadcore is ±100ºF inside the box, around 170ºF at the CPU's and consuming about 6.5W of power, as we speak. Yes, Apple has shown little boxes can handle quad core CPU's. Three years ago.(quad core if such a little box could handle that

I'd certainly consider jumping if there is a new Mini (quad core if such a little box could handle that - I am no expert on heat issues, chips and that.)
Here's hoping new Minis and displays.
It still annoys me that apple doesn't really have a quad core desktop that i can use with the display i want ;(
The base model Mac Pro is quad core and drives not one, but up to three to six displays of your choosing.
I have a feeling robE89 meant Apple doesn't have a reasonable priced quad core model? Base model Mac Pro is astonishingly expensive when the specs are considered...
Are there any specific rumours about of a new Mac mini?
