Windows 10 is why I've moved to OSX, it's dreadful.

I would be interested in what you find "dreadful" in Windows 10. I run Windows 10 side by side with OS X every day and have no issues with errors or OS failure in the past year.

Just asking. Seems like a very vague statement.

OS X is the reason my first computer was the original Mac Mini, as was my second. I have used Windows machines, installed programs, drivers and all. It is the reason my next computer will be a future iteration of the Mac Mini, which is almost certainly coming.

I remember those days also but times have changed. I had to go looking in OS X for drivers for my HP printer. Windows 10 automatically installs most drives now just as OS X.... at least it did in my case. Can't speak for others that may have had bad experiences with it.

I'm not a fan boy of either OS but don't see much of an advantage for either one.

The one advantage of Windows 10 is the amount of money saved in hardware costs.

Please quantify dreadful - remember a good workmen never blames his tools. If you think it's dreadful then I'm sorry but you can't know a lot about systems. Still I suppose you have to justify the outlay to yourself by first justifying it to others.

Absolutely correct - they are both excellent systems only spoilt by those who use them.

Let's not turn this thread into another OS X vs. Windows fight. Click on pretty much any other thread in this forum, 90% of them have this same fight. Let's not ruin another one.

I hope Apple never releases another powerful Mac Mini. It's selfish, but I like knowing I can quickly flip my 2012 Quad Core on ebay for an unreasonably high sum at any moment. :-D

Why is Windows 10 dreadful? A throwaway comment adds nothing to the discussion and doesn't help us understand. After all it could be a very valid point

It runs flawlessly on my 2gb ram surface. Which is more than I can say for the experience on my 2009 Mac Pro with a quad core processor and 3gb ram.

I may only know a little of the lots you claim to know, but I don't give a hoot. I know what I like.

You appear to have a closed mind on the subject which is never good no matter how much you like something. I suspect if you tried one of the new breed of SFF NUC's or similar you would be astounded at the progress that has been made. I'd even go as far as to say you would kick yourself for having stuck so rigidly to the Mini when there's much much better out there. I have owned two Mini's myself so I am speaking from experience.

Whereas Apple have actually gone backwards with the Mini the competition has zoomed into the future. As for the sarcastic remark regarding knowledge - I like to think I can recognise something good from something mediocre, can you?

I have only ever owned two computers, the original 2005 Mac Mini, and now the 2009 Mac Mini that I will likely continue to use for another couple or three years. The easily occasionally transportable form, and OS X along with iLife and iWork apps are simple to use and adequate for my humble needs, among others. My experience has largely been hassle free……

Not some thing I can say of the Windows computers at work, and the observation that colleagues seem to have to replace their cheap laptops every couple or three years.

Not a geek constantly seeking the Holy Grail of computing, I don't give a hoot about the latest SFF NUCs or whatever, and suffer not even the slightest bit of hardware spec envy.

Just an average Joe who does stuff with computers, I am pleased to know that new Mac Minis will almost certainly continue to evolve and be coming.

The only genuinely "dreadful" thing about Windows 10, for me at least, is the forced updates.

Not only is it really unnerving to let the system basically make any changes it wants via updates, but for my laptop, it eats the battery right up and burns all my cellular data when I tether.

I only have a fairly old laptop that I don't use all that much, but when I need to use it on the go, it doesn't care that I'm tethered or that it's on battery, it will burn through it all no matter what I say. In fact, I can't use that computer anymore as a result.

Not such a big deal on the desktop computer, but seriously, that is very hard to get over. I've always been rather critical of Apple for their update policy with iOS, and this is worse yet.

You need to set the wifi on tethering to a metered connection this prevents updates being done. This is what I do on my work surface which tethers to my phone.

As for auto updates I've never had that happen so perhaps it's an option?

But seriously go into wifi and then options and set it as metered that'll stop it burning your data :)

Why is this thread even here? Too big to follow, about almost anything, and much of it is out of date.

My Windows loving friends, who usually can't say enough bad things about OS X and Apple, are not happy with the forced updates thing in Windows 10.
As in very very very not happy. Never heard so much cursing from them about their precious Windows.

And who am I to argue? :D

Thanks, I will give that a try!

I'm critical of both for their faults. I far prefer the window management of Windows and the file browser, but this update scheme is nuts.

Mind you, iOS updates are almost as bad -- very much arm-twist.

Hmm. Given that it has over six thousand posts, almost a million views, and is easily the most active thread in the Mac Mini forum, I'd have to say there are a lot of folks who enjoy having this thread here.
