It's interesting you frame it like that but consider the opposite side. All those iOS apps suddenly become available to run natively on the desktop or touch screen laptop.

Being able to run Windows on a Mac, either with BootCamp or via a virtual machine, is a selling point for the Mac. Nobody would buy a personal computer to run iOS or its million or so apps.

I am not a windows hater, but the fact that you need to implement such work-around is plain user-unfriendly... Most people have no clue how to do stuff like that. Having forced updates is not something you should want, except for the really necessary security updates, which shouldn't be that big anyway. You should be in control of your computer, not the computer having control over you.

You don't Windows provides the option to install the update at a time that is convenient to the user. The internet is awash with miss-information with a lot of people only to willing to listen.

Yes, but the fact that there are so many, so frequent updates is the sign of a problem. Is there a continuos updates, the software should still be labeled, "Beta Testing."

It's not Beta testing it's the price you pay for being the worlds most popular OS.

Wow, you know, I'm beginning to remember another reason why I never really enjoyed the Windows OS world.

What's to enjoy, it's simply a tool that facilities the use of a computer. o_O

Being the worlds most popular OS is no justification for constant update releases. Otherwise, every popular UNIX-like OS used in web hosting needs to start pushing out updates as soon as they are able to, rather than bringing updates together into single releases every few months/years. Updates that are not critical security patches can wait - they can be bundled together and pushed out once in a blue moon, rather than regularly.

You should enjoy using the computer - the operating system you use is a huge part of that. If your OS annoys you, you're going to be put off learning more about computing, which is something each and every one of us should be doing.

The new Windows 10 patch update is almost certainly coming.
Nothing this week....maybe next. ;)

Youall take your OSs so serious like being on an Apple rumors site.....Oh wait

Torrenting Ubuntu 16.04 for a new VM but I won't take it to serious if it sucks. :(

Something must be up. 5 refurb Minis in two days. 2 yesterday and 3 today. I've been watching for the last 4 months and I've only seen 2 until yesterday. (Japanese Apple Store)

[doublepost=1461291951][/doublepost]If that 2.6Ghz version had 16GB of RAM I'd get it.

No Minis on the Australian refurb site.

Plenty of MacBooks though. In fact, there is only MacBooks.

Funny, the 2.6 and 2.8GHz versions are always bought up the same day they come out. I wonder if it is people (sorry. I don't like people that do it) who buy, then tries to sell them at a higher price on some website. The 1.4 version don't sell very well.

The above is a serious response I take it? Scenario - worlds most popular OS, therefore under almost constant attack by hackers and criminals. Would you rather the updates were left so that virus's and malware can attack your system and ultimately take control of you PC or would you rather put up with and update? I know which I would prefer. You've also got to allow for Windows 10 being quite new plus a new way of doing things so MS are constantly responding to consumer demand and ironing out any bugs adding new features etc.

I seem to recollect my Mac getting similar bug updates.

Some times it will require a restart . Depends on what the update is. I just restart my VM on my Mac. I haven't seen any memory issues with Windows 10. It actually uses far less Ram than OS X.

So Apple charge top dollar for old tech and you pay it, then consumers start doing the same with used and new stuff and you pay it. Jeez, this sounds like a salesman's dream to me.

Oh, so you've just noticed now that Apple is one of the world's most profitable corporations? :)

[doublepost=1461369657][/doublepost]I will only buy from apple if it is a new mac mini.
I have zero need for anything they sell other then a new mini.
To be fair I have a 2011 a 2012 a 2014 mini and an ipad3

If I get something other then a mini it will not be until I buy a car with built in wi fi

So maybe I will get an ipad in a few years. I simply do not have a lot of need for mobile gear.

I simply do not have a lot of need for mobile gear.
I have an Air as a backup computer and for using on the occasional bit of travel. But otherwise it is stationary 99% of the time (i.e inside my house).

I have a mobile phone, but it is about as cheap, low tech, and dumb as I can get them. Basic phone, text, clock/alarm, camera, and a cheap hands-free headphone/mic set are the only 'tech' features I need on my phone. I won't object if it can store & play mp3s, but that is not necessary.

My iPhone loving family keep offering to buy me one, but I have no need nor want for it. Just another expensive toy to lose, damage, or get stolen.

Before I came here, I seriously typed in newmacminirumors.com, safari couldn't find server! The funny thing is, this forum post/thread is, newmacminirumors.com, $#!+$ going to go one forever! One day tho they/ll get that perfect model we're all dreaming of... and then we will buy like bazillion...one day...

You're a bit behind with the news as it's already been released and available to buy - it's call the NUC! :p

For one, it does not run OS X.

For another, it won't be long before an even more "perfect" computer comes along.
Wet blanket alert.

I believe 'tongue-in-cheek' is the appropriate phrase.

But seriously, Apple could take some lessons here.

Strange, i have a w10 machine that runs my iTunes now.
Thing is the w10 machine has been running 6 months solid, no issues, not a one.. Mini is powered off.

And you can prevent updates real easy too with the tool provided by MS.

what tool?

Just wondering. I had a 4GB iMac and it was getting really sluggish with the latest releases of OSX. Is an 8GB Mini enough to run the latest OSX well and responsively? And is 8GB enough to future proof it...by that I mean to be able to run new versions of OSX well for the next 5 years?

Which, of course, is the theme of this thread.
Riiiight. Thanks for helping everyone out there...

Although, to be fair, I believe it'll run MacOS. And come in Sept/Oct. And this thread will live on.
