Thanks, really happy how it turned out. Probably get either a 1060 or the 480. Waiting to see what drivers Apple comes out with in Sierra.

Titan is out of my league and budget. lol

How much trouble was the software side? I'm getting tempted myself.

Yes, the Titan X is ridiculously expensive, but it's less than a maxed-out 2014 mini. :)

The best advice I can give is go to the user builds on the forums at http://www.tonymacx86.com/forums/user-builds.28/
and find a build with many posts with a system close to what you want.
For instance I followed
http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/s...og-maximus-viii-hero-i7-6700k-gtx-760.197284/

A system build like this will give you full instructions with a successful hack.

It took me 4 hours to assemble the components....just simple plug and play.

It took me a couple of hours to build the USB drive following http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/u...pitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/.

It took a few hours to install and get set up.

You do not have to install any drivers for the motherboard because the hack software takes care of it.

It you have any problems you can just ask the forum and there are quick responses.

Thanks! I have a GTX 770 (two, actually) that I'm not using. Do you think I could use it in your build, or should I look for one that specifically uses a 770 (2gb model)? Did you get the Lian-Li case? Those are pretty pricey!

The new mac mini is almost certainly coming! (Have to stay on topic at least a little)

The case I used was a Fractal Design R5.It's pricey but was very easy to build in and had sound proofing. I'm not sure about the GTX 770. You should sign up at TonyMac and create a free account and the go to http://www.tonymacx86.com/forums/buying-advice.17/ and ask if it is supported and any other questions you may want to ask about build advise.

There are some great people on there. I'm just a novice so I know just enough to be dangerous. lol

That is a nice case. Thanks for all of the info. Let us know how it works with Sierra.

There are some people already testing and running Sierra on hacks. Also lots of YouTube videos on how to build and install the software. I watched a lot of them before taking the leap.

This is a good one to get a feel.

Been running my Hack for a couple of weeks now with no problems along with Windows 10. All is running well and did a 30GB Blu Ray Handbrake H.264 to Mp4 in 50 Minutes at 55C 100%CPU. My Mini use to take 4 hours at 95C.

Did a 64bit geekbench.

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich confirmed on July 22 that Kaby Lake chipsets have made their way to PC builders.

Just sayin'

But have you asked yourself - "What do you need to do that you can't do - really?" I don't know about you but it's like pizza - dough, sauce, cheese and toppings at the end of the day - it's pizza. In a desktop environment my job provides the horsepower with a laptop that can travel home. My personal workstation and entertainment system is 3 Mini's distributed through the house with access everywhere.

I literally can't think of a reason to upgrade other than speed which is all relative - I can't think of a reason to sit in front of my monitor more than I do - I can't imagine walking around outside with a device in my face (iPhone - which I do own) and which my job also provides.

I can say - I want to see the Mini live on - of course! I'd still like to continue doing what I do and see a pathway for future upgrades as needed and inspired but for now ... let's go out and play while we still can!

It's been a couple of years, so it's due for a refresh. One thing I'd like to see (that I almost certainly won't) is HFR (high frame rate) 4k video support. At least 120Hz would be nice. (think it would need HDMI 2.0 for that?)
One of these days, all of us that are using mini's for HTPC's are going to need to upgrade from 1080p. :). (me, I was hoping for glasses free 3D by then, but there's still a little time).

My reason is simple, I have a 2009 mac mini. I want to upgrade because it is to slow for my needs, but I don't want to update to an outdated mac mini. The 2012 mac mini was before I wanted to upgrade and is a fine mac mini. Then the 2014 mac mini came out with no quad core option. So right now I can either buy an overly expensive second handed 2012 mac mini, a dual core 2014 mac mini or a different desktop. I don't want either of these options, I just want a up to date quad core mac mini.

I used to think the Mac was the foundation for the future of computing expecting certain elements of the Mac experience to eventually reach over to the PC. Elements such as true "Plug and Play", near instant boot-up and the basic "fluidity" of the operating system / ecosystem to include the hardware.

Using the latest PC's shows that those aspects still fall short in comparison to the Mac. Then there's the Entertainment industry to include music, art, photography, cinema and lately Home Automation and Entertainment all benefiting from the Mac and its ecosystem.

One cannot imagine how Apple neglected to capitalize on this leverage continuously moving the needle forward.

Changing over from the Mac ecosystem will deconstruct my entire computing, entertainment, automation and security functionality at home and eventually in the street because the iPhone is my portal to those functions within my universe.

It begs the question - how could a laptop or iPhone support my needs - form-factor alone kills the idea. The Mac Mini rules in the regard of my needs.

Up until Apple introduced the "trashcan" I always bought Apple's top-tiered machines - until I realized that distributing the load among 3 Mini's offered backup, increased flexibility and reduced cost - this became possible as the Mini became more serious in terms of it's horsepower with some upgrade capability still inherent in its design.

At this point - everything is working and suitable for my needs. It's funny (not) but in the instance of HDTV, UHDTV and 4K - 8K TV's the content always lags behind the technology certainly if its not "paid" content - same is true for all music that's streamed. I rarely see Hi-def content and yet I have the equipment and technology to enjoy it - sadly though only about 10-20% of my content is enjoyed in its pristine format - thus it will be another 3-5 years before that changes as a result of further progress eclipsing older technology.

I give myself 2 more years before that fateful decision has to be made and frankly based on the impact mobile technology has had on our society I may choose to step away entirely only touching a computer for work so that I may recapture what's left of humanity!

Ultimately, we're bored! In reality even if there is another circumcised release further stripping away those folds of creativity and upgradability - we're still bored! And just how boring are those who walk around outside with technology blocking them from the rest of the world?

Basically - we need something pivotal in the way we interact with technology. Let's take a break - until issues of headphone jacks, adapters, RAM, SSD's, USB - C, and on are laid to rest because frankly it's no longer important.

I don't like Siri but in retrospect holistic interaction that does not impede my interaction with the world is what's up!!

That's right - step up the game and just say no!

Until that day respect is given first to "human" and "humanity" - I'll take a snooze.

Not preaching here - I've lurked for decades and learned a lot while finding solutions and ideas but when all the time is spent on colors, jacks, thinness, geek-ness and nothing is learned -

IT'S JUST BORING FOLKS!

I lurk now in hopes things will change in the right direction - I'm out ....

Oh yeah ... never laid to rest ... onward ... out there and all that ... small steps lead to bigger steps but that's the problem isn't it - the big steps seem to be leading to smaller steps!
